Just upgraded to the Karmic Beta - and the whole screen brightness alternates
(low/high) every 1/2 second until the power applet kicks in and is displayed.
Once the Gnome power manager 2.28.0 applet starts - the display is fine, and it
stablises. This wasn't the case in 9.1 Jaunty.

downloaded. All the file types are now listed as plain text - e.g. .jpg
are listed as plain text and open by default in gedit. I don't know

Nope it does change anything! evince comes up as a completely blank
window -even without a toolbar. This isn't a mime type issue -
something more fundamental has broken. xpdf renders the pdf's just fine.

I didn't know how to setup a guest session - so I created a new user,
and logged in as the new user. Attempting to view a PDF gave rise to a
crash (bug ...478) with an assert failure. So to answer you question -
yes - evince still doesn't work even when logged into a difference
account.

devices now connect. lsusb show all the hubs but devices connected to
them (ssd cards, cd drives, usb flash drives) don't register and cannot

in my case - webcam word fine under 9.04, device is visible in lsusb as

and i thought I was alone!.. You have described my problems exactly USB
devices and webcam issues. I was on the verge of wiping the hard drive
and starting from scratch... sometimes the devices work (especially if I
downgrade to an earlier kernel e.g. .11 - but next reboot they have
stopped working
Karic Release candidate - evolution data server maxed out at 100% and
memory usage skyrocketed - at 1.0Gb and still climbing at the moment. I
have 1 gmail calender that I tied to look at., and 2 gmail IMAP
accounts. Eeek.

FIXED!! - Downloaded the mega update today 19th Oct - and they are all back
working
Kernal is now 2.6.31-14-generic #48-Ubuntu and we are operational again. :-)
(I'd swapped back to an earlier kernal version to keep things running)
