Caps lock flashing implies a kernel panic, it is worth trying the

I seem to be seeing this same behaviour on my dell studio 15. Sound
worked correctly on Hardy Heron. Right now ALSA sound does not work
(clicking and crackling) but an OSS sound test does work. If I reboot
back to the Hardy kernel which is still installed on my system sound
does work, with every

off when running Hardy but having upgraded to Intreprid they're back on
and I don't have any way of turning them off again. Unticking all sounds
in the gnome panel doesn't help, everything but the alerts gets turned

I have a Dell Studio 15 which also uses snd-hda-intel. I see the same
symptoms that the headphone socket turns off the main speakers but there
is no output in the switching headphone socket. There is a second
headphone socket in the machine which does not turn off the speakers,
that ones does hav
I found a workaround: just install the flashplugin-nonfree package from
hardy-backports.
Steps:

kernels, but I just have a noninteractive script that does my software
updates, so I set UCF_FORCE_CONFFOLD=YES in the script and this causes
nothing but problems for grub menu.lst configuration.

I have the same issue with a G550 card in dual head mode and managed to
change the code to get it all working with some nasty hacks. It looks
like it was broken when they changed the driver to use libpciaccess to
map memory regions instead of using the old xf86MapPciMem calls. There

I just upgraded to 1:2.4.1-1ubuntu2 and followed the steps in the first
posting exactly. The first time I tried it (slowly), the program didn't
freeze. When I do it faster, however, the program does freeze. I
suspect, Chris, that you were deliberately and slowly going through the
steps. Try doi
The problem had been resolved on that machine as noted above by
rerunning the upgrader. I was able to reproduce the issue on a (nearly)
identical installation. Here is the output of the requested commands
directly after the upgrade fails, I had hoped to see a more of a clue as
to why the problem oc

When using compiz as widow manager the drop-down selection list from the
gnome-drawer is hidden behind other windows on the desktop and cannot be
brought forward.
The problem does not occur when using Metacity as window man
utput from smbclient (hopefully this is what you wanted)

Adding --mode=desktop allowed the upgrade to commence. I thought do-
release-upgrade was supposed to auto-detect the mode, I recall seeing a
note to that effect in the changelog.

I had the same problem, 'send/receive' permanently faded-out and unable to
access mail, but other access (web, updates etc) all working fine. However
following hint above, I found the 'work-online' entry in File menu, clicked on
it and now everything works fine again.
Not entirely obvious thoug
3s still play OK.
However I think the bug is more general than that - bmpx also crashes if
the drive you are trying to play from isn't mounted at the time (when
playing tracks from the library).
