This Acer 3050 laptop was silent when using the live desktop CD of 9.04 until I
realised that I had to go into alsamixer, move to the "Surround" column, unmute
it and turn its volume up. Quite why it should need this...?

Ok, so my issue is resolved. When trying to give my sound a try last
night I managed to fix it. By adding the line options snd-hda-intel
model=acer to /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base and restarted. Then I had to
give myself rights to use audio in the Users and Groups configuration
utility.

You should be able to add a new line at the bottom similar to the one
below:
Hello Andy,
I do not have a model entry in my /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base and cannot
adjust this to my computer. Can I just add a line model= to my
alsa-base config file?

Same problem. Sound worked in Gutsy. Upgraded from gutsy to Hardy and got no
sound. Upgraded from Hardy to Intrepid still no sound
This is a Acer Ferrari 5000 laptop.
Why does Ubuntu have so many regressions? It seems like every time a
new version comes out something that used to work gets br

I confirm this bug while trying to fix my girlfriend's computer.
Just after upgrading to Intrepid sound stops working on Toshiba Satellite
L35-S2174. Not so surprisingly, I don't have pleasant experiences on installing
Linux systems on Toshiba laptops.

Hello Andy,
I am from Holland and are not familiar with the term "model quirk".
Can you explain? Then I will report a bug which will be specific for
my machine.
Should I report that bug within the Intrepid buglist or somewhere else?

It should be born in mind that sound problems of this nature, where
adding a model= helps sort out your machine, are almost
always very specific to the machine in question. If you find the model
quirk which is required for your system you are best filing a bug
specifically for that machine. Menti
I don't think this bug is incomplete anymore. Could the Ubuntu Audio
Team turn this bug into another status?
@Henry
I'll try you're solution and let you know what the result was.

I have the same problem with a Toshiba Satellite (L35-S2316... thanks
Toshiba, for wiring every single Satellite L35 differently heh..)
What I ended up with was using model=hp instead of model=dallas. The
internal speakers are almost uselessly quiet (I don't recall if they were

Fresh install of Intrepid Ibex with ATI SB4x0 and no sound. I went
through the Debugging Sound Problems page, but could not resolve my
issue. Checked if I was privileged to use audio within Users and Groups
and I can. Below is some information.

Linux ibex 2.6.27-8-generic #1 SMP Thu Nov 6
My ALSA is also not working since I upgraded to Intrepid from Hardy today, on a
ThinkPad T61 with snd_hda_intel.
