I am commenting here only because I cannot determine if the kernel panic is
caused by unloading the Intel PROWireless; I just know that it happens at
s2ram, and perhaps that is the module that causes it.

Does everyone here have an Intel PROWireless 3945? People in the bug I
mentioned have problems with unloading the driver, where a 'rmmod
iwl3945' always causes a kernel panic.

This also seems to be related to various network adapters being
unloaded, it is not necessarily specific to the original reporters
hardware.

As far as I know this issue is wide spread to quite a few laptop setups and is
specific to 2.6.24-21.
* Marking as High Importance due to this fact
* Setting as Confirmed as this problem was happening to me since the -21
update.
Mind you I didn't realize I had -proposed enabled on this system
At the moment 2.6.24-21 is still in proposed... We need to keep it in
proposed until this issue can be resolved.

Well, did it boot? The main target of this thread was to test if the
"Suspend-to-RAM" Kernel panic bug is gone.. did you test that?
I have a few issues with my sound device with .27, but I think thats
because I don't have the restricted modules package installed..
Everything else seems to work fi
Alas, .27 did not work for my hardware; neither the video chipset nor the wifi
hardware were detected properly.
Thanks for the directions above, though. I tried following the directions on
the download webpage itself, and added:

to my /etc/apt/so
Oh, I forgot to mention:
as long as you set the new entry below the old ones you will still boot with
the old kernel.
You have to press ESC on boot to see the grub menu screen, and select the .27
kernel for booting.

Hi Pietro,
as I wrote before, the new kernels are not in the repos. But I can
assure you there is no chance to trash your system, because we don't
overwrite any data here, we just add some new data (well, you can screw
up your menu.lst, but not if you follow my advice ;)

Hi acidicX, can you explain how to install this newer kernel? I am worried that
I could trash my system irreparably if I do this wrong. Using BASH, do we enter:
$ sudo apt-get install linux-image-2.6.27-2-generic

Ok, found it myself, for everyone else:

I tested 2.6.27-2 - It's gone! Standby works perfectly.
But I would appreciate a fix in 2.6.24-21... ;)

Hi,
where is the kernel package available? I can't find it in synaptic (with
everything enabled of course)..

The Ubuntu Kernel Team is planning to move to the 2.6.27 kernel for the
upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release. As a result, the kernel team would
appreciate it if you could please test this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel.

I have exactly the same problem. It always happens on S3 Suspend to RAM
("Standby") on Hardy (8.04.1).
-19 is working fine, -20 and -21 have the kernel panic error. As my foreposter
stated, this error is repeatable, not sporadic.
I added a screenshot of my laptop showing the error.
