The issue can also be worked around from the compiz side by configuring
compiz to display POV-Ray windows without an alpha channel. This can be
done through the "Window rules" plugin, which has a "No ARGB visuals"
rule. Setting this to "class=Povray" will cause the POV-Ray preview
windows to be ren
The problem remains in Karmic, although the "-visual DirectColor" fix
works.

I'd like to note that this bug does not occur in the POV-Ray 3.7 Beta.
Unfortunately the beta's are not packaged for Ubuntu or Debian and come
with a timed kill-switch to discourage using a beta release past it's
"prime". Since the group has been late in releasing the next beta all
current release

I couldn't find a way to set this in povray.ini, but that's a minor
matter; at least povray is usable again now.

The transparency occurs on the TrueColor render mode but not on the
DirectColor mode. All other modes were unavailable for test (not sure
why, perhaps they are incompatible with the X display settings).
Also the transparency isn't really a transparency at all. It seems the
