Original reporter noted that this problem was fixed with later kernels
making this bug no longer valid. Please reopen if this is still an
issue in the current Ubuntu release, Jaunty Jackalope 9.04. To reopen
the bug, click on the current status, under the Status column, and
change the status back
It's resolved for me with Intrepid completely.

I just thought I'd add that I'm running Intrepid right now and I'm
experiencing no problems with audio - the new kernel seems to work just
fine with the Asus P5B Deluxe motherboard. The only way I was able to
resolve the bug on Hardy was to recompile with the mentioned patch.

I confirm the bug even now. Ubuntu 8.04 64-bit, with the 2.6.24-17-generic
kernel.
MB is Asus P5B Plus, the error is -16, Ubuntu detects no sound cards:

PLUS with sound chip ADI 1988. But in 2.24-16 is some NEW bug, because

kernel options in -1
