I have spoken in email to the maintainer of the debian ia32* packages
who is going to include more libraries soon. Those changes can hopefully
be merged to Ubuntu. Please re-open this bug report.

32bit development libraries missing for amd64 systems systems
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1171
I was not asking for anything more than for the ia32 package to create
the (&%&$ symlinks per my original note above. I guess it's just too
much to ask. Guess I'm stuck doing it manually. For the life of me I
do not understand why the deb build for the 32-bit system libs can't be
made conditiona
You obviously do not have the responsibility of compiling 32 bits apps while
under x86_64. Lucky you.
chroot is too complex for normal users as well. I guess this is the same old
holy war between camps.
Meanwhile Windows plows away without hiccups in this area.
Please create a new package. I li
This is not really what ia32-libs is for. It is a hack to make existing
32 bit software run on 64 bit systems. If you need to *build* 32 bit
software, then use a real i386 installation or a complete i386 chroot. A
reasonably complete ia32-libs-dev would be way too big and too out of
date to be usef
Also libjack is needed in the ia32-libs package for wine + jack to work
under a 64bit install. In this case it is not a matter of symlinks.
Please also add a 32bit libjack. Thank you,
Scott

Yo
I have noticed that libogg is still not provided by ia32-libs on AMD64
Ubuntu Feisty. Please see the attached file for the output of `apt-cache
showpkg ia32-libs`, `cat /etc/debian_version` and `uname -a`.
Please let me know if I'm missing something.
Hope that helps,

** Attachment added:
The vast majority of 32-bit build problems on 64-bit platforms can be
mitigated by simply creating the missing:
libfoo.so.2.2 --> libfoo.so.2
libfoo.so.2 --> libfoo.so
symlinks upon install of ia32-libs.
In my humble opinion, Unbuntu development is spending more effort
defending the fact that yo
libXv.so.1 is included in 1.19ubuntu2

As I understand it, the current recommendation is to use a 32-bt

It compiles just fine on 64bit, but the users _need_ to build it as
32bit software in order to make it work with wine. This is the project:

Why not patch the application to compile on 64-bit systems, perhaps
using a 32-bit compatibility format for saved files, network
