I was not asking for anything more than for the ia32 package to create the (&%&$ symlinks per my original note above. I guess it's just too much to ask. Guess I'm stuck doing it manually. For the life of me I do not understand why the deb build for the 32-bit system libs can't be made conditional to target x86_64 automatically. Doesn't seem like rocket science, since it's generally a matter of targeting, e.g. /usr/lib32 instead of /usr/lib.
