I've just noticed an interesting quirk to this bug; the Caps Lock
modifier key does work for the first character on the first attempt.
That is to say open login screen (by space bar if not already open),
press and release Caps Lock, Caps Lock light now on, very first
character to be typed is now m
This appears to be quite an old issue with Optimus graphics. For me the
workaround was to pass specific kernel parameters at boot time to inhibit acpi
control of the backlight but allow intel_backlight control

I found that the brightness controls (via function key or sliders in power
management) were changing the values in
/sys/class/backlight/acpi_videos0/brightness, but nothing changed in

I can confirm that /sys/device/platform/dock.0 does not exist on my
system.

Yes, the bug is present with the default configuration file, but lid
close to suspend (from unity) works fine if I change the configuration.
In both the bug and functioning conditions the backlight turns off when
the lid is closed.
I will test behaviour from a console log-in later today.

Ok. To enlarge on my experience, the sequence of events is as follows;
I set up Deja Dup to back up to a named folder on U1.
My machine scans, prepares and uploads files.
A successful backup is reported, there are uploaded files on U1,
including various control files. All appears good.
Future
Don't like to post impatiently, but is there any idea of timescale for
resolving this?
It's plagued my attempts to use DejaDup with Ubuntu One; having to
apply the folder change workaround once would be bearable, but the
problem has returned for me with the new folder name.

A quick experiment suggests that the problem is partly related to the
font used, as not all fonts suffer from the problem.
Note that all the fonts (I have tried so far) do kern correctly in the
design view, it is the displayed slide show where kerning fails for some
fonts.

When I design a slide in Impress the pair kerning appears correct. I

applied.
I also note that cycling through the task switcher (Alt+Tab) fixes the
display of Network Information, making it display properly and respond
to window controls including close. The next opening displays the fault
again.
Looking good here. Certainly no longer troubled by this one in normal
use on Natty. Very relieved as I can now consider moving some of my
users onto the Unity interface :)

(1:0.8.2.2-0ubuntu0.2) with my elderly USB Wacom Graphire ET-0405-U A6
size tablet, under Jaunty beta updated to 7th April.

I am using Jaunty beta, updated to 4th of April.
For several days now my Aiptek tablet has been working, but with a
persistent bug.
If I unplug the tablet, the xserver crashes, giving a few moments of
screen garbage followed by

The xserver-xorg-input-aiptek package now installs via Synaptic without
errors.

I can confirm that the package is now installable on Jaunty beta.
Thanks to all involved for fixing this very fast. As a result I can now
consider moving one of my workstations to Jaunty beta for further
testing soon.

Jon, I notice you've now tagged this with "packaging", which I think is
correct. (The program itself installed and worked fine on Intrepid.)
The dependencies reported by Synaptic include removing xserver-xorg and
replacing it with xserver-xorg-core, which apparently isn't happening.

I attach a copy, although it doesn't appear to contain any references to
