Are you sure you have the gstreamer plugins installed for your gstreamer
version? Since you need the 1.x versions, make sure your plugins are also for
that version, the 0.10.x versions will not work.
FWIW: this is not an Amarok bug, but an installation mismatch of the gstreamer
plugins.

Did you try to build it against libav? Ubuntu doesn't use ffmpeg, and I
think this is the issue here: this package was built against ffmpeg
instead of libav. I very regularly build my own Amarok from git and with
libav there is no problem, transcoding works.

The soundcard is a built-in Intel one.
Problem: no sound after the upgrade from Raring to Saucy beta2.
A second screen is attached over HDMI, and the sound outputs to
"Internal Audio Digital Stereo (HDMI)" while the default "Inte
oops, seems I forgot to report back. As already mentioned in comment #8,
this is solved with kernel 3.6.0-17.27
I have since then upgraded to Raring and haven't seen this happening

I tested the upstream kernel and the problem is still the same.

Wow, I wasn't aware I had this one still open. This is solved since
quite some time, I am currently using Precise, so not relevant anymore.

No, but we are about to rewrite the Context View, this bug is not
solvable otherwise. So you will need some more patience as this is a
GSoC project. As you can see from the target already...
