I do not know. It was still broken until 8.10 came out. 8.10 worked
with my printer, so I upgraded all my computers. 8.04 was not working
up to then, but I upgraded everything shortly after 8.10 was released.

A little more info: If I send a test page, after a long time I can see
the job with an error message in the KDE print manager. If I right
click and get the IPP job report I see "Can't print page 1 header"
listed in it. I don't know what that means, but it appears to me to be
significant.

There are several issues.
1) The main problem is that Amarok claims to know how to enable MP3's, but
after it executes the required apt-get command it still can't play them. There
is some magic combination of debs to install and then it works, but no one can
agree on what those debs are.

Okay, I found how I "fixed" the large font issue. In my kdmrc file i
told the server I had a ridiculously small dpi. Here's the line:
ServerCmd=/usr/bin/X -br -dpi 40
Even though I have a about 100 DPI screen and have specified the screen

Here's the xorg.conf that is able to get it into 1600x1200, but only the
second time. If I kill the server after kdm comes up, I will be in

By really huge I mean 2-3 inches tall, say 6 cm. Other things are
messed up. Menu bars tend to take over the entire screen. Dialog boxes
are 3 screens wide, etc. It is essentially unusable.

terminal once X is started. When I try to change VTs, I get yellow bars
of garbage across the screen. I can get back to X, but I can't see the

For me it is kacpid that is a runaway using 95% of a cpu and
kacpi_notify uses only 5%. It seems to happen even if I don't run
anything CPU intensive--just loggign in to KDE starts it. I guess I
should try logging in to a console and see what happens.
