Public bug reported: Binary package hint: amarok
After upgrading from Feisty to Gutsy on my dual opteron AMD64 system, Amarok can't play MP3s (using the Xine engine). I have mediabuntu in my repositories. Amarok offered to install the required packages which I accepted, though I thought I already had everything I needed. I had already done "sudo apt-get install libxine-extracodecs" which I thought would work. I accepted Amarok's offer and some dialog boxes appeared that looked like adept running so quickly that it was pretty clear that nothing was actually happening. Then Amarok said it needed to be restarted to play MP3s. So I restarted. After restarting Amarok, the symptoms were unchanged. I even let it try to install the packages again, but still MP3s couldn't play. I could play MP3s with juk, however. Finally, I enabled the "universe" repository and ran "sudo apt-get install libxine1-ffmpeg libxine1-plugins ffmpeg lame faad sox" which installed a bunch of things: The following extra packages will be installed: libfaad2-0 libpostproc1d libxine1-console libxine1-gnome The following NEW packages will be installed: faad libfaad2-0 libpostproc1d libxine1-console libxine1-ffmpeg libxine1-gnome libxine1-plugins The following packages will be upgraded: sox I don't know which one did the trick, but now Amarok can play. So my problem is resolved, but the bug are: 1. After an upgrade Amarok should be able to play MP3s, since mediabuntu was enabled, but it was not able to do so. 2. If Amarok installs the MP3 codecs, it should be able to play MP3s. 3. I shouldn't have to run code from universe to play MP3s. ** Affects: amarok (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- amarok still can't play mp3s after autoinstalling the codecs https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/157958 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
