Unfortunately, having had this problem several months and _not_ having
found any solution -- the killing of gvfsd-http did not work for me -- I
almost accidentaly bumped into Clementine.
This program works perfectly for me and so I've threwn away Rhythmbox.
I'll be using Clementine for the future.
This bug has been reported for quite some time now, but doesn't seem to
be solved. Maybe because in the meanwhile a lot of people would have
noticed that streaming audio _does_ work in VLC.

You're probably right, because after having restarted, everything seems
te work fine. But I yet have to try KDEnlive, which messed up sound in
Ubuntu 9.10 dramatically.

Thanks for your answer. I've discoverd what was wrong: the libstdc
wasn't loaded in Dapper Drake. I discovered this when running vuescan as
root in a terminal, when it mentioned this file being missing. I must
say it cost me several days, however, to realize this problem could only
be solved instal
I've had to revert to a dual boot system Dapper Drake / Feisty Fawn to
be able to use my slidescanner. The problem does not seem to be solved.

Though Vuescan worked perfectly in Ubuntu Dapper Drake (6.06), it was
impossible for me to get this program working in Feisty Fawn (7.04).
Looking through several forums I discovered it has probably something to
