Thanks for your answer. I've discoverd what was wrong: the libstdc wasn't loaded in Dapper Drake. I discovered this when running vuescan as root in a terminal, when it mentioned this file being missing. I must say it cost me several days, however, to realize this problem could only be solved installing (using Synaptic) this "library".
But in the end, all works fine again, so I'm no longer an unhappy girl. Thanks.
