For future reference, if anyone has the same issue I fixed it by
upgrading the driver to the version `nvidia-driver-460`.
So fix:

# Allow yourself to get the newest driver versions
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:graphics-drivers/ppa

increases (moderatly), while the process lyx uses 100% CPU. Scrolling
too far causes the window to grey out, typing text becomes impossibly
complicated due to the lag. None of the proposed fixes above changes

Trying to start a VNC server with tightvncserver, I get this error:

A VNC server is already running as :0
but there is no lock file in /tmp and there's no VNC
I just installed the Dolphin file manager and everything works fine, so

I have a docx file from Apple Office I think. It opens fine and
converts, however if I save this file in .odt format, it saves, but will
NOT open again.

This attached document seems to work fine in odt format, but when saved to
docx, several things seem to happen:
- column width is no longer relative, but static numbers
- the column width numbers are very large (like 13" plus) which causes the
table to go off the right of the page.

The problem is still present when saving with Libre Office docx format.
The problem goes away if I change the table width to "relative" (a
percentage of page width) instead of using absolute values (which seem
to be the default).
