I have motherboard Asus P8Z77-M, where is ALC887-VD and using Ubuntu 12.04 LTS
64-bit and all updates but still same problem - strong noise at input when
recording voice through microphone. My outputs:

There is also problem with shells.
In the file /etc/passwd I set:

But still can "user" log in as regular user through GUI. I

I tried in Ubuntu 11.10 with Firefox 8.0 and 9.0.1 and also with Google Chrome
16.0.912.63 - same problem - cannot click on flash settings buttons. Even using
TAB (pressing several times to jump to the next button) and moving onto button

I don't use Xubuntu 6.06 currently. I use Kubuntu 6.06 and plan to
switch OpenSUSE or whatever else due to buggy Ubuntu... It seems like
there are more bugs appearing than community can fix. I need to do my
work, not hunt bugs. I mean critical bugs. I like Ubuntu but it is still
to raw. Perhaps 7.0
This was one of client machine and I installed there already Ubuntu 6.06
LTS. So I cannot check this anymore. As I see - still is no Firefox 2.0
in Ubuntu 6.06 LTS :( I downloaded it manually and use it. I just
linked plugins folder to plugins folder in /usr/lib/...
I don't have time to reinstall
o get support to main hardware. In
the beginning also printing was broken in this "enterprise ready" Dapper
Drake... Thank God they at least fixed printing and I stayed to Dapper
Drake and sacrified scanning lack.

I changed kernel back to 2.6.15-23-386 and now sound works again. I just
renamed appropriate rows in /boot/grub/menu.lst to load older kernel.
Even touchpad mouse works again.
It seems like it's kernel bug but I'm not sure.
But it's workaround, not solution.

Xubuntu 6.06 randomly log off and all unsaved work will lost. I tried to
research log files but nothing extraordinary I did't find.

Here is the description of my installed packages (which are probably
involved), where this bug appeared.

Perhaps is not only pmount package involved - there may be also dbus and
hal and perhaps something more be involved. But if to read error
message, then it says that pmount has the problem.
