Using ubuntu-14.04-desktop-amd64.iso installing with a custom layout to
UEFI VM, partitions are EFI System partition (vfat), boot (btrfs), and
root (btrfs), with no swap partition, each btrfs volume has a UUID and
it's used in the fstab. So I can't reproduce this bug.

It would be really nice if the hardware volume keys (for example:
Fn+PgUp/Dn on my laptop) were handled before Ubuntu began playing
startup sounds. If you are in a meeting, and you know that your sound
is on, there is nothing you can do to stop the startup sound from
playing
This problem has been resolved in the Dapper final - not sure where
along the path it was cleaned up. My apologies for dropping off the map
after reporting (and I'll attach rather than include next time... still
getting used to this whole launchpad thing. Not a huge fan.)
