Ahem sorry to all I did not read the last ten or so comments.
Having more carefully read through them, and having re-read the earlier
notes, I have (I believe) a more useful question.
Would it not be reasonable to mention on the release notes and related
pages that it may be possible to use usb-c
Sorry I should mention that I created the bootable USB on a 14.04
system.
The workaround, that is typing "live" into the boot prompt, eventually
yields a live session.
This is Ubuntu 14.10 downloaded today from the regular release page.

failed to boot from USB disk with error: gfxb
An update to my earlier comment.
Nouveau in 14.10 continues to be unsatisfactory (1024 X 768 on NVidia
GTX750 and a 1920 X 1080 monitor).
However, the really grossly disgusting low resolution seen on the live
image was fixed by replacing the gfxboot.c32 which was a workaround to a
boot problem as
Regarding #51: in today's 14.10 daily I was affected by the same
problem. I copied /usr/lib/syslinux/gfxboot.c32 from my 14.04 system
into the usb /syslinux and it now boots fine.
This is 14.10 Ubuntu 64. The boot disk was created on a 14.04 Ubuntu 64
system, up to date, with usb-creator-gtk.

This is an even worse issue in 14.10 FCS. Nouveau doesn't work well for
my 750, giving me only 1024 X 768 resolution. And worse, during
install, I get such a low resolution I cannot see the full installation
window, nor the settings window, so I don't know what that resolution
is... but I bet it'
Hi Tony and others,
I had planned to file an upstream bug but my inspiron (because of this
problem and a problem with the Broadcomm wireless) is very awkward to
test... So I have not - yet anyway - done that.

But really, gnome-tweak-tool does not look right running under Unity, at
least not today.
The UI is messed up, shading in the wrong place, etc. I managed to use
it to swap CTRL and CAPS LOCK but its visual flaws did not give me

Besides, it tweaks a whole bunch of thi

On 13.10 I find it works reliably if I use it with gksudo.

This is a great point to think clearly about the contents of the
message.
The prospective user needs to understand clearly that the "erase and
install" option leaves no chance of returning to the previous state
unless there is a separate backup.
