I can confirm this issue, with a graphics chip detected by lspci as:

Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 10)
With no monitor connected, X fails to start, and GDM goes into an infinite loop
trying to get it up and running.

After further testing, it seems this doesn't happen every time, and
there are other problems after resume. The output of dmesg after resume
shows a lot of "SQUASHFS Error" lines - and I see the original
submitter's dmesg.afterResume.txt log shows a similar result - so is the
problem here perhaps t
I see the same thing with the Jaunty Beta Live CD which I downloaded

My laptop's an HP 6720s, also with Intel 965 integrated graphics.
When resuming from suspend I'm left with a black screen. The mouse
pointer is just visible if the mouse is moved, but flickery.

Yeah, it still happens here, too - though it affects several GL
applications, not just Crack Attack.

As of today's update to Kernel 2.6.24-14 resume works again.
There's an issue now with network settings not being restored, bt I'll
look into that and submit a new bug if need be.

I've tracked this down to mplayer's disabling of DPMS while playing a
movie, which means the bug is in the DPMS portion of the X server.
To confirm this:
a) in mplayer-1.0~rc2/config.h change
#define HAVE_XDPMS 1
to
#undef HAVE_XDPMS
and rebuild - problem goes away (along with DPMS disabling capab
I see this issue too - crack attack's game window gets no window
decorations with Compiz enabled on Intel GMA X3100, though the initial
game settings windows does. Same goes for mplayer's video window if
using the -vo gl or -vo gl2 output drivers.
Note, the widgets in the window border are there,
Sorry, should have mentioned, I'm running Hardy, with everything up to

I tried using the suspend/resume debug trick from
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingKernelSuspend
Using the command listed there, the machine didn't complete the suspend process
- it hung before the power light went out. Using this command instead:
sync; echo 1 > /sys/power/pm_trace; pm-suspend

@Luke12: Worth a try, but makes no difference here.
@Leann: Not a problem, have done so, thanks.
