hardware to HDMI, playing any YouTube video is filled with noise.
Rebooting to the previous kernel eliminated the noise.

In response to a error window stating that there is a problem with Caja
(other than the memory leak that eats up move than 8GB of RAM). I
clicked report to developers.

The last time I tried the "upstream kernel" the bug (different bug) was
still there. And I had to reinstall Linux afterwards just to get a
working system. After having to reinstall Linux six times I'm getting
tired of it.
Finding the bug does not help if the crash corrupted the drive
superblocks.
I reinstalled Ubuntu MATE 18.10 and updated/upgraded the packages and
rebooted. Still none of my external USB 3 drives appear
What do I do next to try and get a working computer?

First my system became incredibly slow (consistent with the memory leak
in Caja). I xKill Caja and then tried to restart it. I then closed every
app and tried to do a shutdown. I got a warning that Caja still had
processes running preventing shutdown. I chose shut down anyway.

e caja time extimates are in weeks. I need a
stop-calendar in place of a stop watch. This is an indicator of a serious
design flaw in disk I/O in ubuntu. I shudder to think of the time estimates
if I mounted a 12TB drive.

I was trying to copy my data off a 4TB external USB drive with a HFS+
file system to a 6TB external USB drive with an NTFS file system.
System very sluggish with a 6TB drive mounted. Both copying with Caja
drag-and-drop and Terminal cp -anR from to were not working properly.
