FYI I solved it, and the solution was the same as that of the fellow in the
"ssh weirdness" thread. The problem was an ISP DNS issue. Namely, a
reverse lookup on my IP yielded a plausible name, but a forward lookup on
that name got nothing. This was causing the hosts.deny file to stop telnet

This came back with CONFIG_SMP=y
So it looks like SMP *is* compiled in by default! I had looked at
/proc/cpuinfo, and there was mention of 2 CPUs, but I just wanted a little more

I set up a system-wide fetchmailrc recently to grab mail for both my gf
and myself. It worked fine for a while, automatically receiving mail
whenever we connected (PPP) and every 450 seconds as I specified.
Then it just stopped. The process is still running:

tcpdump --- and now I cannot use my PS/2 mouse in X. I checked the
archives and looked at the man pages for xdm and gpm and I think that is

To put it another way, that non-contiguous percentage is totally
unrelated to whether your drive is failing or not. It's just telling you
the degree of file system fragmentation.
