I ask because Debian 3.1 failed to detect the characteristics of said

Hi,
I finally decided to jump to the 2.6 kernel branch :-)
First I made sure I had recent releases of make, binutils, etc. Then I
downloaded, installed and untarred the kernel-source-2.6.8 package.
When I executed make xconfig, I got this error message:

I was having the same problem.
I finally got it working by deleting the source

Install the tk8.3 package.
In future you can use the "Search the contents of packages" engine on
http://packages.debian.org/ to help with this kind of question.
Cheers,
Please can you help with this error?
Thanks Kevin

I've tried a lot of time to give the command:
#make xconfig
first with the 2.4.14 kernel and then with the 2.4.16 one.
The output I received has been always the following:
# make xconfig
rm -f include/asm
( cd include ; ln -sf asm-i386 asm)
make -C scripts kconfig.tk

who can provide me with an Xconfig-file for this card?
I'm running xfree86 4.0.3-4 as available in the unstable-tree (woody that
is).
If someone also cna tell me how to get the best out of the card under
linux, including video in/out etc, I'd appriciate it.
thanx,

There are various "solutions" to this problem available. Check the

I'm trying to recompile a kernel but keep getting this error trying to use

rm -f include/asm

make -C scripts kconfig.tk

All,
I'd search archives but I'm a bit ... hobbled, here. So hope you will
excuse if this is old Q.
I just upgraded to full testing. Some problems with some font files (four
of them, xfonts-arphic*.*) but didn't keep me from getting things going --
I don't think, anyway.
So I tried to startx, b

You have to run it as the user in control of the X session, not as the user
trying to gain access. Run "xhost +localhost" as the user running X.
Incedentally, take a look

In order for 'xhost' to work, you have to be the user who started to X
session; so:
