This "feels" like a problem with Windows; do you have a firewall on the W2K
laptop? It might be blocking ping traffic.

Added note: I was able to find the key (F2) to get to the bios and
couldn't find anything there on modem , ethernet card or interrupts. The
only thing that seemed close was the option to set Serial to Auto. I
left that as it was.

After doing a little research on Google it does look like interrupts
with that nic aren't unheard of. So I'll see what I can find out about
resolving irq conflicts. But I don't expect any quick answers on my own
so if anyone has any ideas on how to change the irq I'd appreciate it.

turned on the XP firewall. Once I turned it off I was able to ping the

I' setting up NIS on my server (unstable). This machine has 2
interfaces: eth0 (10.0.0.150) which is connected the internet, and eth1
(192.168.1.1), connected to my internal network.
I followed the Debian-NIS doc, which is in /usr/share/doc/nis/
Now, when I start NIS, I see that ypbin
and the light goes on !!!
That was it. I Really feel stupid now !

I've been trying to setup PHP4 on my Woody box at home. I've installed the php4
package, and then went through the apache config and uncommented the php shared
object libraries and added the .php document handler. I stopped and then
started apache to make sure I've got the .so's loaded.
However

Looks like I was missing the dhclient-script file. I did a new apt-get,
upgraded the package and it works like a charm. Thanks for all of your help and
suggestions.

I'm using testing, and have installed the pppoe package.
I have followed the debian specific instructions in:
/usr/share/doc/pppoe/README.Debain.gz
I tried a:
