Does anyone know how to make win95 use the LPT port as the network
interface so I can setup a link between my linux box with PLIP and my
win95 box
Dave,
I've never tried using plip to connect Linux to Windows, so I don't know if any
of this will help or not.
I'm no expert on networking, but I do have plip working between two Debian 2.0
machines and, for reference, here's my config files. I have plip compiled as a

Thanks for taking the time to answer my question. I think you missed an
important detail; This is a PLIP connection (parallel port IP); there is no
network card. The network "adapters" are drivers. Anyhow, I was able to
set up "lin" with the following:
t can
ping it's loopback and its network adapter. After reading the NAG manual
section on PLIP connections, I booted lin and did the following:
#ifconfig
(info on "lo" displayed; all looked good.)
#route add default gw 192.168.0.1

I have been told what the problem was. Basically frisbee did not figure
out correctly where the parallel port was. Inserting the plip module
explicitly via
insmod plip io=0x278 irq=7
solves the problem. Apparently, putting arp into the ifconfig helps,
too. Now it all works. My next thing is

I don't want to seem really stupid, but why do you say:

Hello,
I am having trouble getting PLIP to work. I have two debian linux
machines, called frisbee and piglet. I tried to follow the instructions
of the PLIP mini-HOWTO, they seem to work on piglet but not on frisbee.
(I also have the laplink cable all plugged in but frisbee does not seem

HI
I am trying to connect my linux computer with dos one using plip
On dos machine I use plip packet driver form
ftp://ftp.crynwr.com/drivers/plip.zip
The connection can be established but it is very very slow.
If I use dos on both and connect them using interlnk, intersrv,
I get about 60Kb/sec
