I have been told what the problem was. Basically frisbee did not figure out correctly where the parallel port was. Inserting the plip module explicitly via insmod plip io=0x278 irq=7 solves the problem. Apparently, putting arp into the ifconfig helps, too. Now it all works. My next thing is to get IP-Masquerading to work...
