Hi,
Now I've learnt that debian is not actually losing any user. And the
community is ever growing as you wish. So there is nothing to worry
about. Wish you all the best.

The object of the new
software development is also to help do work better. And desktop
environment usually does not need that high stability.

have also decided after listening to some suggestions on the
list to wait some time. Sometimes I think it would be even better if
Debian introduced a new branch for desktop users. The current branches
are in fact in server style. Desktop users have to jump between stable
and testing back and forth
ly without the need of knowing the details. In
most cases I even do not need to modify those configure files. It just
works, and works fine. I like this style :)

But I once heard that things in the "Testing" distribution always change

All right. I will adopt the "Ostrich" algorithm and disable the new mail
beeping for now. Thanks for all your replies.

Anyway, icedove should not "beep" when auto-check is disabled for all

That is strange. I got those "of host" and "be hovel" ones into icedove
box for example. Maybe this is due to a setting that I am not sure.
BTW, it still keeps beeping even if I disable auto-check and
auto-download for all accounts.

Hi,
I know that Icedove will "beep" when a new mail is received.
But sometimes it also beeps when there is no new mail or
anything else. Is there any other case in which Icedove beeps?
Thanks.

Uhm, thanks, it works, but I'd prefer doing it "the right way"...
Infact, this file is used to suppress motd (and last login) output

Hi,
I recently found ways that can lock user accounts on the local machine,
including "passwd -l" and "usermod -L".
I am wondering now what is the difference between the two commands and which
one is preferred (or standard, or more widely used). Thanks.
