Cygwin SSH through a router? (was RE: Remote KDE desktop over SSH?)

I use PuTTY on a Win98 machine to connect to my home machine behind a router, tunnelling VNC over SSH. Is it possible to tunnel through a router using Cygwin/SSH and get an X desktop? I like VNC (especially TightVNC), but I've found it to be a bear to set up. :-) I often lose the ability to dial

This motherboard uses the i845 chipset and the on-board video is called "Intel Extreme Graphics controller". I searched through old posts and someone said they had luck with the vesa driver. I'm not having any luck, but I'm not sure it's the driver (I know very little about X configurations).

I maintain a few websites on shared servers that are outside of my network. I routinely SSH into them to edit files, etc. Each time I SSH I have to authenticate by giving the Username and Password for the account on the shared server. That Username is not the same as my Username on the box

KMix with ALSA?

Hi... After some adventuring, I actually get sound from my new soundcard. After some more adventuring, I'm still unable to use KMix for volume adjustments. I have set the KDE sound system to use ALSA, and testing sound works. alsamixer also works. I'm using ALSA 0.9.3 from unstable with driver
