Check the permissions on /etc/ppp/pap-secrets. I think pppd ignores the file unless the perms are 600. I'd like to gripe here about the woeful state of debugging wrt pppd. More than once I've had to strace the thing to find out what's failing. It could use some better error messages. Paul Miller

My suggestion would be to pony up for two 10-base-T ethernet cards and get a crossover cable. Hi Philippe, You either have some no-so-good floppies, or maybe your floppy drive is out of spec. Seeing that you have access to a *nix box, I would use dd to create the disks and then use dd and md5sum to check them. That way you will _know_ that they are good before you start the install.
