I recommend to first uograde to a recent version of cdrtools

Well, it sounds like the problem might come from the program that both K3b
and gnomebaker use (cdrecord).
I will reassign the bug to that package, perhaps the cdrecord maintainers
can help you find the problem.

destroying a disk by doing so.
my diskdrive works perfectly under windows.
gnome baker completely locked up when I tried it.

write audio format to cdr's. I would have metioned it before but, it's
just now that I have started to learn to use the bug reporting system.
k3b used to backup my data onto cdrw's just fine, but reciently stopped
doing that. Bur

So the two problems you have are:
1- cannot burn Audio CDs on CD-R media
2- cannot burn Data CDs on CD-RW m

Would it be possible for you to attach the log from K3b? I think there is a
button called "debugging output" or something like that in the window that
pops up when the burning process starts.
