This bug appears back some time ago. For some months, video thumbnails
failed to generate on multiple of my machines. Since then, I was trying
to figure out the cause.
It only seemed to affect h264, but not all videos were affected. I even
had multiple videos saved from Youtube, some were generati
ce tarball?
Otherwise I think you should remove the unused externals in the
`externals` folder - you can do this via `debian/copyright` (see e.g.
[3], multiple lines allowd)
