[Bug 250370] Re: Ubuntu 8.04: No sound on T43
That was done before I posted. Should have mentioned that. Thanks for the post though. I've also checked the various switches. It worked in 7.04 after selecting or deselecting (I've forgotten which) one of the switches, but now that option is either not available or this is a different bug. I should also mention that this is a fresh install of 8.04, not an upgrade from a previous version. I used 7.04 for a while, then had to switch to Windows XP (TM), upgraded that to Vista which lasted for 2 weeks when it was wiped out and I installed Ubuntu 8.04. I've read numerous posts concerning sound on a T43 with 7.04, 7.10, and 8.04. There is almost always a mention of deselecting the headphone detection switch, but that isn't visible in alsamixer or any the standard gnome volume controller. -- Ubuntu 8.04: No sound on T43 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/250370 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 250370] Re: Ubuntu 8.04: No sound on T43
I've been talking with someone on the Ubuntu forums who had similar problems with his T43 and he moved to Suse 10.3. I installed openSuse 11.0 today and at first I thought I was having the same problems. I've been working with it for about 4 hours now and just now it occurred to me to press the volume up button on notebook just above the function keys. Wouldn't you know there is now sound blasting from my speakers. I'll re-install Ubuntu 8.04 x86-32 over the next 40 minutes and report back. One the one hand, I would be relieved if the solution was that simple, but at the same time, how embarrassing. -- Ubuntu 8.04: No sound on T43 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/250370 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 250370] Re: Ubuntu 8.04: No sound on T43
Okay, finished re-install of Ubuntu 8.04. Still need to get my updates but sound does work. It seems that the hardware buttons on the T43 are independent of volume settings in ALSA. I do recall that I had muted the volume using these buttons when the computer was last in Vista...didn't expect the setting to carry over into another OS but it is clearly firmware controlled. This issue has been resolved. -- Ubuntu 8.04: No sound on T43 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/250370 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 225928] [NEW] Desktop Extends Past Viewable Area
Public bug reported: This applies to Hardy Heron. Hope the Summary is descriptive enough, I really didn't know what else to put. The problem is this: I'm using a Dell Inspiron 5100, the resolution is at 1024x768. Everything LOOKS fine except I notice my wallpapers won't center, and apps that start maximized extend off the screen to the right. I hooked this notebook up to a KVM to do some work on it and that's when I saw what was going on. Took a couple screenshots on the notebook and they look the same as the output to the KVM but not the same as the output on the notebook's LCD. On the latter, I can't see anything past the borders of the panels... ** Affects: meta-gnome2 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Desktop Extends Past Viewable Area https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/225928 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I logged in to our PDC, did some work then closed the tsclient window after accidentally reconnecting twice (what can I say, sometimes I'm click-happy). Once the tsclient window had closed, I was greeted by this message. - I realize at least 2 others reports similar to this one for gnome-panel have been placed, however I thought I'd submit this anyway in hopes it would help find the common denominator in these crashes. + I realize at least 2 other reports similar to this one for gnome-panel have been placed, however I thought I'd submit this anyway in hopes it would help find the common denominator in these crashes. [Bug 94796] Mis-mounting of DVD+/-RW/RAM Drive
Public bug reported: First the hardware: Panasonic/Matsushita UJ-830B in the UltraBay of an IBM/Lenovo ThinkPad Dock II. Feisty is running on a ThinkPad T43 18XX (Intel Chipset and onboard 915 graphics). I have seen this device reported as hda in error logs (which is obviously wrong). The situation: The drive was unusable in Kubuntu Edgy. The drive was properly detected (according to dmesg output) in Edgy but errors saying something to the effect of the drive being confused (?) were constant. Output for Ubuntu Feisty is... "[ 5304.216000] hda: drive not ready for command [ 5304.216000] hda: status error: status=0x7f { DriveReady DeviceFault SeekComplete DataRequest CorrectedError Index Error } [ 5304.216000] hda: status error: error=0x7f { IllegalLengthIndication EndOfMedia AbortedCommand MediaChangeRequested LastFailedSense=0x07 } [ 5304.216000] ide: failed opcode was: unknown [ 5304.216000] hda: drive not ready for command [ 5306.22] hda: status error: status=0x7f { DriveReady DeviceFault SeekComplete DataRequest CorrectedError Index Error } [ 5306.22] hda: status error: error=0x7f { IllegalLengthIndication EndOfMedia AbortedCommand MediaChangeRequested LastFailedSense=0x07 } [ 5306.22] ide: failed opcode was: unknown [ 5306.22] hda: drive not ready for command [ 5306.22] hda: status error: status=0x7f { DriveReady DeviceFault SeekComplete DataRequest CorrectedError Index Error } [ 5306.22] hda: status error: error=0x7f { IllegalLengthIndication EndOfMedia AbortedCommand MediaChangeRequested LastFailedSense=0x07 } [ 5306.22] ide: failed opcode was: unknown [ 5306.22] hda: drive not ready for command [ 5306.22] hda: status error: status=0x7f { DriveReady DeviceFault SeekComplete DataRequest CorrectedError Index Error } [ 5306.22] hda: status error: error=0x7f { IllegalLengthIndication EndOfMedia AbortedCommand MediaChangeRequested LastFailedSense=0x07 }" ..." The drive shows up as being mounted with an Audio CD even when no CD is present. If the drive is not present during boot, all is well (no error messages) and the drive is never mounted (even with a CD inserted). However, if the drive is present at boot, GNOME reports an Audio CD and Rhythmbox tries to access the drive to no avail. This Installation is in a business environment and is the only non-MS desktop installation in this company. I'm doing what I can to help resolve Bug #1, thus the reason for this report. If you need any further info from me, don't hesitate to ask--and I promise I'll be more concise.
