I've been talking with someone on the Ubuntu forums who had similar problems with his T43 and he moved to Suse 10.3. I installed openSuse 11.0 today and at first I thought I was having the same problems. I've been working with it for about 4 hours now and just now it occurred to me to press the volume up button on notebook just above the function keys. Wouldn't you know there is now sound blasting from my speakers. I'll re-install Ubuntu 8.04 x86-32 over the next 40 minutes and report back. One the one hand, I would be relieved if the solution was that simple, but at the same time, how embarrassing.
