[Bug 491499] Re: xorg randomly crashes on resume
directly after an X crash, i found this in /var/log/kdm.log: [CODE] Note that your system uses syslog. All of kdm's internally generated messages (i.e., not from libraries and external programs/scripts it uses) go to the daemon.* syslog facility; check your syslog configuration to find out to which file(s) it is logged. PAM logs messages related to authentication to authpriv.*. [Bug 558813] Re: pulseaudio not sending audio data fast enough?
ok here you are. The audio plays fine with or without pulse, it seems to be applications that are recording through pulse that are effected. (Audicious records choppy unless i have the pulseaudio volume controls open. ) Strangly enough, chrome (google chrome) has the same effect as start pulseaudio volume up. I start playing say a youtube vid and instantly the visualizer responds correctly. This issue was not present in jaunty, it was in karmic. ** Attachment added: "pulseverbose.log" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/43492907/pulseverbose.log -- pulseaudio not sending audio data fast enough? https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/558813 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 581907] Re: dolphin/konquerer context menu takes a long time to pop up
I have removed all file templates, no change. removed all custom file associations, no change. deleted .local and .config. no change. tried new user, no change. tried changing kde theme, no change. disabled my nvidia driver, no change. tried changing view modes in dolphin, no change. changed icons in dolphin, no change. disabled nepomuk/strigi, no change. rmed /tmp/, no change. running out of ideas... it is only when i right click folders/file icons though. I can right click a blank space in dolphin and it works right, I can also enable the tree view side bar and right click works like a charm. Right click also works as expected in open as/save as dialogs. also when i try changing file permissions/icons, the "updating system configuration" progress bar loops, and in the case of changing file assocations, does nothing. maybe this is related somehow? I get "kbuildsycoca4(6670) parseLayoutNode: The menu spec file contains a Layout or DefaultLayout tag without the mandatory Merge tag inside. Please fix your file." when i try updating the icons. -- dolphin/konquerer context menu takes a long time to pop up https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/581907 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 461221] [NEW] pulseaudio crackles and skips during game play
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: pulseaudio audio skips and crackles for about 5 seconds and then cuts out entirly when playing games such as Warzon2100, Sauerbran, and Nexuiz. The games will not close after the audio stops. The sound works again after I run pulseaudio --kill, but will cut out randomly if i change ALSA volume, or another sound plays. I have noticed that changing the audio setting in the games to a lower refesh rate and with a huge buffer will cause the sound to work consistantly, just with a huge delay. This just happened with one of the recent updates. [Bug 998871] [NEW] Totem not correctly decoding Dolby Digital audio into 5.1 surround
Public bug reported: I have a dvd (batman begins) that is encoded with Dolby Digital. I have selected 5.1 in Totem's audio property tab, but upon playing the movie, I can see in pavucontrol and in totem's media property dialog that it is only being decoded as stereo. Disabling the Unity plugin in ccsm fixes this for me. Sounds like it is just Unity and not Compiz... To disable Unity and test suspend: Search for ccsm in the dash, run the compiz config. [Bug 578045] Re: Upgrading packaged Ubuntu application unreasonably involves upgrading entire OS
I reported a duplicate of this bug. Just sharing my idea for a possible solution. Perhaps splitting the Ubuntu repos into two -- one for the Ubuntu Core (kernel, desktop, system libraries, etc) and one for the applications. The applications repo could then be continually updated as developers update their apps without effecting the core system of Ubuntu. On system upgrade ("distro upgrade"), only the System Repo would be updated to the newest Ubuntu release, making the upgrade process far smoother then the current mess that often results. I am sure there are problems with the above approach, but perhaps there are ways to work them out on a technical level. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/578045 Title: Upgrading packaged Ubuntu application unreasonably involves upgrading entire OS To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/null/+bug/578045/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 578045] Re: Upgrading packaged Ubuntu application unreasonably involves upgrading entire OS
@mpt If I understand correctly, the backports repo contains new versions of software already included in the main Ubuntu repos. What I am suggesting is: 1: Do away with the Ubuntu Backports repo entirely. 2: Create two separate repos: one for Ubuntu applications (and perhaps even commercial applications could be included here, but I'm not sure the legal implications. If not, then split the Applications repo into one for FOSS software, the other for proprietary) 3: and the other for the core Ubuntu system, eg kernel, core libraries and system components. 4: The Ubuntu applications repo would have a rolling release style of updating, 5: while the Ubuntu Core repo would keep it's current 6 month release model. There would be no overlap of packages in the Core repo, and the Applications repo. As far as getting software easily into the Applications repo, in order to prevent your first point, why couldn't the community review the software? There could be a "Community Review" site where packages seeking admission to the application repo could be uploaded. Anyone could register easily to the review site and vote on a package's safety. Their voting weight would be in proportion to their reputation. Reputation could be earned by the accuracy of ones votes. Voting "safe" for a package that was eventually turned down as malicious would lower a user's reputation, thus decreasing their voting weight.

[Bug 899175] [NEW] It needs to be far easier for developers to get their apps into the software center, and to update them once they are in.
Public bug reported: It needs to be far easier for developers to get their apps into the software center, and to update them once they are in. Currently I have 21 ppas active, I'm sure others have more. I add a ppa for almost every program I want, because either the software center does not have the program I am looking for, or it is out of date. This model is absurd, I almost think that installing apps in Windows could be more secure. I have to add an entire repo -- and expose my system to the possibilities of just one repo owner's password being comprised -- just to get an up to date app. The only thing that is keeping malware out of Launchpad is the community, not practice of installing up to date apps. As an end user, when I open the "Software /Center/", I should find just about every app available for Ubuntu ready to install -- and already up to date. Currently I think that ppas are more the "center" of installing apps on Ubuntu then even the Software Center is. I don't think Ubuntu should become a rolling release, but something really needs to be done about the above situation. Perhaps splitting the Ubuntu repos into two -- one for the Ubuntu Core (kernel, desktop, system libraries, etc) and one for the applications. The applications repo could then be continually updated as developers update their apps without effecting the core system of Ubuntu.
