Binary package hint: pulseaudio

i have noticed this especially in projectm, i have to start pulseaudio's
volume control to get projectm to behave normally, if i dont the
"flower" part of the visualization updates at about 5hz.  this is very
wierd looking.  I am using kubuntu.
