you replaced ubuntu's broken driver with one that works, but the thing
is that the distribution should do this and not every single user in
the world.

(thanks for documenting the process)

[Bug 384156] [NEW] udffsck is missing

2009-06-05 Thread mnemoc
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: udftools

UDF is the alternative we have to get rid of fat32, with it's patents
and limitations. Ubuntu's udftools package misses udffsck which is an
essential component if one plans to use UDF in flash devices and hard
drives. Of course fsck.udf and mkfs.udf wrappers would make it even
better but having the actual tools is enough for now :-)

btw, now (8.10) only `sudo iwconfig wlan0 rate 11M` is accepted here,
any higher rates gives:

This was supposed to be fixed in 2.6.25 but it was not. The offered
solution is to build the rt2400 "legacy driver" by hand, but that isn't
a solution on a distribution "for humans".

in 7.10 it detected 54Mb/s as all there other machines in the house, now
only 1Mb/s and in 8.10 it doesn't accept to be set to anything higher

kb/mouse aren't working... so I'm connected via ssh.

It's not an issue any more. it's all working fine currently (except an
issue with the wifi driver which is on another ticket)

Thanks!

[Bug 232340] Re: CaCert Certificates not installed

2009-03-28 Thread mnemoc
Mozilla requirements are thought for companies. CAcert.org clearly
doesn't have the money or the human resources (they are all volunteers!)
to write the policies (legal texts), perform a deep audit, reimplement
it's software to follow all those new policies, and do the procedures
related to the DPA in matter of months as companies with a much lower
security level but with dedicated HR and large budget can.

crashing when unplugging the USB keyboard which even removes it from the

[Bug 665364] [NEW] RT2561 (rt61pci) connectivity close to unusable again

2010-10-22 Thread mnemoc
Public bug reported:

this problem comes and goes since 9.04, bit rate goes from 54MB/s to
1MB/s very dinamically... even at 1 meter of the AP. It was quite decent
in 10.04 but I upgraded to 10.10 and it's close to unusable again. `sudo
iwconfig wlan0 rate 54M` solves the problem during a few minutes only.
linux-backports-modules-wireless-maverick-generic didn't help either.

[Bug 673072] Re: gnome-wm erroneously detects card as compiz capable

2010-11-10 Thread mnemoc
The error in the log on top is about "non power of two textures"
support. I really doubt that is "required" for "Composite". from my PoV,
gnome-wm is been lazy and greedy... and after all having good GL support
will soon be a *requirement* to run Ubuntu.
