Re: [Bug 255849] Re: Just installed 8.04, no sound
Hi Nick, I read in the dictionary that "triaged" means something like "queued based on priority"... is there a way I could know the priority and/or estimated processing time of this bug? The rest of the system runs so smooth and cool in my laptop that it is a pity there is no sound :-). And of course the bug will probably affect the other users who own the same laptop model. Thank you, Luis. Re: [Bug 255849] Re: Just installed 8.04, no sound
Hi Leann, As far as I understand the image package is just a single compressed file that I can easily test under a new entry in the grub menu, or even by editing the boot command line. If so, it seems easy enough, just tell me where to download this kernel and I will try it right away. In any case, if it works, can I keep using the new kernel or is it maybe unstable/incompatible and I should better wait until 8.10? Thank you very much, Luis. I have this problem too and it is sad because this is the first distro that everything works out of the box in my notebook. I'm using the amd-64 version and it is an intel dual core with nvidia 9600 GT. I saw here that some people tried to use a different kernel version, but the problem is still there. Disabling ACPI is not helping too. I have a Nvidia card, but some people are facing the same problem with ATI and Intel cards. The network interface was already tested and the problem remains. Re: [Bug 255849] Re: Just installed 8.04, no sound
Leann, forget my previous e-mail: I googled for " linux-image-2.6.27" and understood that by "package" you mean apt-get install etc.., so I downloaded and installed the package, then manually added an entry to menu.lst. The result is that YES, sound now works... I suppose you can mark the bug as fixed in 8.10. Unfortunately with this version I have video problems and the wireless adapter is not detected (among other problems), so I had to uninstall it and go back to the original. Re: [Bug 255849] Re: Just installed 8.04, no sound
Sure, I am very interested in collaborating in finding regression problems, as they would otherwise affect my own system when I install 8.10 in two months time. However: - The video problem was definitely related with the fact that I am using Nvidia restricted drivers, which got misconfigured. - If you don't mind I will test 2.6.27 with the LiveCD of Alpha5, because the test I did yesterday caused quite a disruption and misconfiguration on my environment (it even changed the keyboard settings :-?), and it took some time to put everything back into place. Re: [Bug 255849] Re: Just installed 8.04, no sound
Hi Ajaxian, When I installed the alpha kernel, sound worked but my wireless adapter stopped working and also the video resolution went down to 640x480. I reinstalled the proprietary NVidia drivers but probably did something wrong, since I could not go above 800x600...(?). At some moment even the keyboard layout was wrong!!!... so I went back to the stable kernel and no sound. So if you manage to use the alpha kernel without problems, please tell me how you did it and I will follow your steps 8-). Regards, Luis. [Bug 157200] Re: metacity wont start directly if compiz and xserver-xgl are removed
Same problem. I had to remove compiz because I have a multiseat configuration and one of the seats use a mach64. On that screen I was getting a white screen for some users. Gdm would show the login screen and the user would login, but immediatly after the first refresh the screen would go white. I tried everithing I could think of until I noticed that compiz was running for that user and decided to remove it, and that fixed that problem. But then metacity won't start for a long time. I can bring up a terminal (I have a launcher in the panel) and start metacity manually. Is there an easier way to disable effects in metacity without reinstalling compiz? (Of course, the menu in system->preferences is gone now) Mine was as well an upgrade from Feisty to Gutsy, and that upgrade was anything but smooth! And it does make sense that it's the kernel that is allowing a leak from the console into the hardware controlled by X. -- screen shifts right when /dev/console written to https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/153425 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 153425] screen shifts right when /dev/console written to
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg Ubuntu Feisty with all the updates: Xorg 7.2.0 on Linux 2.6.20-16-generic, AMD Atlhon64 X2 5800+ with 3GB of RAM. Two video cards, an integrated ATI Radeon X1250 and a PCI Mach64 Rage Pro AIW: 01:05.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Unknown device 791e 03:06.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc 3D Rage Pro (rev 5c) I'm using a multiseat configuration. [Bug 153425] Re: screen shifts right when /dev/console written to
I wrote to the console as root echo "some random text">/dev/console eight times and the screen rotated back to normal. This happened just before I took a snapshot of the Xorg log file. The date on this file is 2007-10-19 17:27, whereas I tested at 18:10, so I'm pretty sure the last messages didn't happen at the same time as the shift. I've also notice that it's not just a plain side screen rotation , but the screen actually shifts what appears to be one bit up, so that eventually you start seeing the top of the screen at the bottom. [Bug 108527] Re: X freezes when compiz is enabled on ATI cards
I was actually going to open a new bug report, but even though I can't possibly be certain it's the same bug, it's darn nearly the same. So, I got a radeon X800 card, with the open source driver, when I enable compiz it freezes randomly after about one hour, mouse moves but X is in deep freeze otherwise, I have to reboot, I can't kill X. I did follow the instructions on how debug the crash, that is, I installed the debug package for everything related with xorg, restarted the system and attached to Xorg using a laptop (via a serial cable, actually). After about 8 hours, with compiz enabled, while moving a window, the screen froze. Gotcha! I thought. Went to the laptop, and gdb had stopped because it caught a signal (broken pipe). Got the backtrace anyway and typed cont, and X continued fine, with the window missing, but otherwise functional. Actually I'm typing in that same session. Did installing the debug packages somehow helped, or unning under gdb make the signal handler behave differently? I meant, but didn't, add the NoTrapSignals option. Mind you that I couldn't find xserver-xorg-core-dbgsym, apt-get install failed with: The following packages have unmet dependencies: xserver-xorg-core-dbgsym: Depends: xserver-xorg-core (= 2:1.3.0.0.dfsg-12ubuntu8) but 2:1.3.0.0.dfsg-12ubuntu8.3 is to be installed So it was trying to install the debug symbols for an earlier version. I noticed that most packages had a -dbg sibling, and that's what I installed. I'm attaching the backtrace, but as I'm not sure it's the same problem since the system now seems much more stable. Are the -dbg packages and -dbgsym packages equivalent, or is the code in the -dbg packages actually changed from the released code? It seems that, really, a watched pot never boils. ** Attachment added: "sigpipe backtrace" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/12168152/xorg-sig-pipe.txt -- X freezes when compiz is enabled on ATI cards https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/108527 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 54202] Re: xorg 7 dissables capture - ATI Radeon 7500 RV200 QW - WARNING ! Radeon memory controller is misconfigured, disabling capture
Just to check that Xorg 6.9 indeed worked I installed Slackware 10.1 (that came with 6.8, where capture does not work out of the box) in a spare partition and compiled Xorg 6.9 on top. Capture works fine there. I thought that 6.9 and 7.0 shared the same code, the differences were just in the new "modular" build architecture for 7.0 ? Maybe it's some silly #define that somebody forgot to transfer to the new build system? I'll try to find out what's different, but I'm not familiar with the new modular architecture, and just barely familiar with the old, so if anybody knows better, let me know ... -- xorg 7 dissables capture - ATI Radeon 7500 RV200 QW - WARNING ! [Bug 161988] Lenovo N100 3000 0768-A52 touchpad stops working
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: linux-source-2.6.20 Some people report that the problem is after Resume but I don't know that that's the case here. Sometimes the problem is just that the side scroll quits. I can still move the pointer and use the buttons. Sometimes the tap, scroll and buttons quit requiring to start a new session. When this happens I can still move the pointer around just not able to tap or scroll via the touchpad or the buttons but the mouseover works since I can see the Mozilla buttons highlight. Also, sometimes the mouse pointer skips around while scrolling causing the pointer to lose focus on the window being dragged/scrolled. Most of the time this is when the touchpad starts having problems. I'm not sure what to check for hence I can not add any logs. ** Affects: linux-source-2.6.20 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Lenovo N100 3000 0768-A52 touchpad stops working https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/161988 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 158250] Re: user logs out in multiseat makes other seat lockup
If instead of logging out of the first seat I kill the first seat with kill -9 PID_OF_X_1st_SEAT, then the second seat is undisturbed. If I kill just with kill PID_OF_X_1st_SEAT, then the first seat locks up. Not always locks up with 100% CPU, sometimes just frezes with no CPU consumption. The point is that it might be that the fglrx is not honoring the isolateDevice and resets the second seat anyway? *** This bug is a duplicate of bug 44169 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/44169 Having the same problem, two years later, this is now Gutsy Gibbon. But I wouldn't say this is a duplicate of https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/44169. They are reporting that the multimedia keys don't work. This is different, the mouse that is part of the combo sometimes (for me) is confused with the pc speaker. The problem is that there is no unique way to identify the combo devices, since both report the same name and the physical device seems to change randomly from boot to boot. It would seem to me that evdev does not have a way to tell uniquely what device to use from the kernel udev information. ** Attachment added: "devices.txt" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/11745458/devices.txt -- Logitech Cordless Desktop don't work with evdev https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/47765 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 158250] Re: user logs out in multiseat makes other seat lockup
Yes, still an issue. I bought a not too new radeon X800 pci-e and I'm using the open source radeon driver now. I though either the integrated controller or the closed source fglrx drivers were part of the problem. I've read that evdev breaks again the multiuser configuration in Hardy, and that's why I haven't tried it yet. It was real pain to get evdev to work in Gutsy. And since this is the computer that my family uses for everything, I can't have it down too long. I guess that's why I choose Ubuntu in the first place. I'll try Hardy on a different partition over the weekend. -- user logs out in multiseat makes other seat lockup https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/158250 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 44465] Re: can't add printer, consumes 100% CPU
Same problem here. If I run strace -f cupsd -f>&/tmp/cupsd.strace I can see that there is a pipe being created and then a thread is spawn with clone. After that, every time the parent thread looks at the pipe, it returns immediately, even though neither thread is writing or reading from it, just as in the previous post. As the previous poster did, I was trying to add printers on my network, with some I was succesful some I wasn't. I included the initial part of the strace, the last lines repeat for ever. It's not too big, 72k uncompressed. ** Attachment added: "strace" http://librarian.launchpad.net/6373576/snip.txt.gz -- can't add printer, consumes 100% CPU https://launchpad.net/bugs/44465 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
Re: [Bug 59173] Re: Was installing ubuntu and it crashed
Hi Matt, it's been a long time since it happened, and I've since sucessfully installed Edgy on other machines. The crash happened as the installer was copying files into the formatted partition. I was installing 6.10 Anything else?
