[Bug 367138] Re: evince crashed with SIGSEGV in gdk_region_copy()
Still have not recreated the crash, I have my latest valgrind log, both logs show that a memory error exists. I am continuing to run evince, with no flaws up to now. ** Attachment added: "latest valgrind log" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/26455668/valgrind.log -- evince crashed with SIGSEGV in gdk_region_copy() https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/367138 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 367138] Re: evince crashed with SIGSEGV in gdk_region_copy()
There have been no subsequent crashes since the initial report. I have recreated the circumstances of the event several times with valgrind running, but with no resulting crash. Since I have not been able to recreate the crash, I cannot attach a log which contains crash data. I will attach no more logs unless they contain crash data. I had hoped that the included information would have been of some value in determining the condition of the hardware. -- evince crashed with SIGSEGV in gdk_region_copy() https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/367138 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 367138] Re: evince crashed with SIGSEGV in gdk_region_copy()
fire fox browser open to win4lin.com home page win4lin iso file resident on linux accessable drive with linux file system viewer open to the folder containing the file. win4lin pro user's manual downloaded from site and opened in evince additional tabs opened in firefox browser for google gmail, netzero, and ubuntu forums firefox download window was also open all of this was running from the live cd ubuntu 9.04 I accidentally clicked the win4lin iso file icon and waited a few seconds after that to see if it was going to try to load. when I didn't see any activity that appeared to be the file opening I clicked back into evince and began attempting to scroll upward in the document with my wireless logitech mouse. As I was using the scroll wheel the document disappeared. I clicked through all open programs looking for it and then launched the document again from the download window in firefox. The error notification window for evince appeared, and I followed the instructions to post the bug. However, remember that I was suspicious of my hardware at the time, because my machine had been BSODing in windows, and had also crashed an XP Pro installation which had been resident on the machine for more than 2 years. It may have just been time for a fresh XP Pro installation, but that remains to be verified. I built a new machine and used the power supply, the DVD burner, and the IDE ribbons from that machine in the new build. I had to reassemble the machine to start to try to recreate the bug. I put it all back together, and both machines have been flawless ever since. I noted in my first report of the bug that I was suspicious of the hardware I was using, and once the hardware was disturbed recreating the bug has been unsuccessful. I continue to try to recreate the bug with no success. If I am unable to recreate the bug within the next three tries, I will post a suggestion that the bug be closed, and attributed to hardware related issues. If there are additional questions, or requests to perform other diagnostics, I will gladly perform any steps you suggest, or answer any questions I am able to answer.
** Description changed: Binary package hint: evince I'm sorry this is my first bug report, and my first use of LiveCD ubuntu 9.04. It may not be a valid bug, but I am incompetent to determine validity. I was reading the installation documentation for win4lin pro and scrolling with the scroll wheel on my logitech VX revolution wireless mouse when the app suddenly closed. I am using a pentium 4 prescott processor, ECS mother board with 1 Gb RAM and I am loaded from LiveCD with my Ubuntu 9.04 distro. I have not checked the hash, and my machine has been buggy lately, I have either a faulty RAM chip or a failing Motherboard, so my machine may be the source of the bug. I intend to build a new 64 bit machine when parts arrive Monday and I was researching information for my new build to migrate away from Windows, so you may find this bug report worthy of an early death! However if you decide to investigate further, I will be happy to answer any questions to the best of my ability. The application shows these details from the drop-down help menu about...Document Viewer 2.26.0 Using poppler 0.10.5 (cairo) you probably know the rest of the details about this program. I was reading a pdf document from the win4lin pro website which was the user's guide. I also had several windows open along with my firefox browser. I had also clicked on the win4linISO file just before the user's guide disappeared. I was scrolling up in the document to an earlier page when the window simply closed. I hope the automated bug reporter has properly selected the appropriate source package because most of the details in your instructions are still over my head! I have downloaded the pkg for valgrind debugging memory issues and though I'm a newbie I figured out how to launch the necessary program from within the valgrind program. There is a difference in system properties, however... I had already disassembled this computer and built another one using some of it's components. I pirated the DVD drive, the EIDE interface cable and the power supply for use in the new build. I installed different components in the suspect computer to recreate the crash. In addition, the system hasn't been on a comparable period of time as of yet. I will wait until late tomorrow night and try to recreate the crash again after the unit has sufficiently heated up to a comparable temperature. If I am still unable to recreate the crash it appears probable that it may have been hardware related and not a valid complaint against the OS. The new computer which utilized the pirated hardware has operated flawlessly to date. I will update immediately if the issue returns, or if it appears with the new unit. -- evince crashed with SIGSEGV in gdk_region_copy() https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/367138 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 482184] Re: Update failure from Ubuntu 9.04 to 9.10
I apologize, I left out some of the kernel description id.s in the above post. I was trying to update to 9.10 from 9.04.2.6.28-16-generic I had 4 previous kernels remaining in the grub menu but .12 did not exist. I tried to load them all in turn, but none would launch. I tried to restore each kernel with the recovery entry for each kernel in the grub menu. I continue to try to repair a kernel with no success. I will soon be performing a complete reformat and partitioning of the drive unless I am instructed to wait. I am still running from LiveCD version of 9.10 at the moment. I will wipe the drive on Thursday to make a fresh start. -- Update failure from Ubuntu 9.04 to 9.10 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/482184 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 482184] [NEW] Update failure from Ubuntu 9.04 to 9.10
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: update-manager The error report instructed me to report this bug in update manager. I am now running on LiveCD 9.04 to make report. Installed version no longer loads / boots. The system is corrupted, I could not report the bug before reboot, then reboot failed. I could not bring up error logs to verify content existed. I updated 9.04 to the latest package releases yesterday. Updated my laptop successfully yesterday and tried new distro, decided to update desktop this morning. Downloaded all packages while using a Win program in an emulator. Failed to shut down other process before update installation proceeded. (May be the reason the error occurred) First sign of error was failure to install Libuur1 (?? I didn't write this cryptic term down, so I may have misspelled this name). libuuid1 (found name in logs, pasted it in here for you) I have attached all the logs in a file. They appear in order: apt.log main.log term.log they are pasted together into one file with a multiline space separating them. jeff3...@netzero.net is registered email, but you can get a faster response from me if you send requests for additional information to: jeff.gies...@gmail.com I have tried to recover, and have been able to boot the machine into what a Windows user would term a DOS terminal. I do not know what a Linux user would call it. I will back up my files using my LiveCD to operate, and I will download an iso copy of Ubuntu9.10 to load, but I will await your instructions before making changes in case I might be of assistance to you in solving the bug. If you determine my failure to close the program which I was using to be the cause of the bug, then of course there should be no effort on your part to resolve my stupidity, but please notify me that I may install the new version, because I REALLY LIKE the OS I just installed on my laptop I hope I have included the information you need to investigate whether you should validate the bug and address it, or ignore it due to user incompetence. ** Affects: update-manager (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Update failure from Ubuntu 9.04 to 9.10 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/482184 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 482184] Re: Update failure from Ubuntu 9.04 to 9.10
I did try to boot into the other kernels remaining on my machine. The latest revision was 9.04.16. I tried .15, .14. .13.and .11 before I tried any of the recovery modes. I only used the .16 recovery kernel when attempting to resolve the issue to allow a successful boot. (I would have tried generic kernel .12 too, but by then I was getting desperate .) In each instance the kernel failed to boot and went to fsck automatically and hung following the unsuccessful file system check. ( I performed these attempts before reporting the bug, because I was trying to report from the corrupted OS thinking that additional information would be available if I were able to use the built in bug report tools. Since I was not able to return the system to functionality I had to resort to the LiveCD method. I will be watching this post over the weekend. -- Update failure from Ubuntu 9.04 to 9.10 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/482184 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 807815] [NEW] installer crashed
Public bug reported: installation attempt from USB of 11.04 onto a machine running WIN7. Installer reported existence of 9.04 on system and asked whether I wanted to upgrade to 11.04, install a clean OS with reformat and one other option I forgot. I chose to upgrade 9.04 to 11.04. Installation appeared to proceed with no difficulties, downloaded 30 files and installed them, removed incompatible files, and then downloaded language packs. Following language pack installation, hardware configuration was in progress when the installer crashed. [Bug 807815] Re: installer crashed
Although upgrade log was not present, that was the option I selected when I attempted the installation. Crash may have occurred too early to create upgrade log. I had no idea what the progress of the installation was. The drive on which the earlier installation was discovered was added to this machine, this machine is a new build running a cloned drive. The drive was taken from a 32 bit machine, this is a 64 bit machine. The drive on which the linux OS resided is not the boot drive on this machine, it is a secondary drive. No functional grub appeared on this installation previous to this installation attempt. I did not realize 9.04 resided on a secondary drive when I attempted the installation, but I surmised it might be an easier installation since I though no new partitioning would be necessary. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/807815 Title: installer crashed To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/807815/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 807815] Re: installer crashed
I'm sorry, this error may have been caused by trying to write to a partition that was too small for the installation. It appears that the 9.04 installation crashed a few years ago when I improperly partitioned the drive. I didn't want to try to repartition & reformat because I had a working copy of WIN XP on the drive with important existing data. Since then I have migrated to new drives and just transferred this drive to retain archives of the old data. Installer saw old 9.04 installation and offered option to upgrade. My mistake. I will make an attempt to install to a new reformatted, properly sized partition, and then update this bug.
