[Bug 200338] Re: no sound hardy kernel 2.6.24-12
ctrlbreak, Have you tried uninstalling virtualbox modules to see if sound comes back? If this is the case indeed, can you attach here the dmesg without the virtualbox modules, when the sound is working and with the virtualbox modules, when the sound isn't working? -- no sound hardy kernel 2.6.24-12 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/200338 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 200338] Re: no sound hardy kernel 2.6.24-12
I can't say anything from the dmesg, since no sound/alsa drivers are loaded in kernel, only in userspace, but if I remember correctly the ubuntu kernels are all generic for some time now, so the 64bit and 386 should be the same. Therefore the question is why do you need the 386 kernel? And your issue is probably the alsa drivers failing because they think the aren't compatible with 386 kernel. -- no sound hardy kernel 2.6.24-12 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/200338 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 322760] Re: Pulseaudio daemon needs manual kill/restart every boot on HDA Intel ICH7
I confirm this bug, its happens exactly as Cameron Harris wrote, in my case the sound card is HDA Intel ALC888. After the start-up the Sound Preferences applet doesn't show any output devices, restarting pulseaudio helps. On a side note, my user name wasn't associated with any of the pulse audio groups, probably Cameron's user wasn't either, therefore he got choppy sound after restarting pulseaudio, since his user isn't associated with pulse-rt group. So Cameron, this should help you as it did for me, as a temporary workaround: First of all, in System -> Administration -> Users and Groups, click on unlock to get full access. Now click on Manage Groups button, in the groups': pulse, pulse-access and pulse-rt properties check your user name, this should help with choppy sound. You will have to log out and log in again for the effect to take place. Now, when you need to restart pulseaudio, you kill it as you wrote with: killall pulseaudio and then you can restart it with: pulseaudio -D the D switch is for daemonize, so pulseaudio will continue to run in background, and you can close the terminal now. -- Pulseaudio daemon needs manual kill/restart every boot on HDA Intel ICH7 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/322760 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 286169] Re: battery and thermal dissappears after few minutes of booting. on msi ex600 laptop
Hi Leann, The first part of your question will be easy to answer, in 2.6.27-6.9, which is the last of the 27-6 it was still working. But on the very first of 27-7, which was 2.6.27-7.10 I think, it wasn't, and it still doesn't work on 2.6.27-7.13. So I'm pretty sure it was some patch introduced in the 2.6.27-7.10 version. As to the second part of your question, I can try to do git bisect myself, it will probably take me until the begging of the next week, but I should try nevertheless. However, should you prefer a more quick solution, I suspect that the offending patch is this one: linux (2.6.27-7.10) intrepid; urgency=low [ Alexey Starikovskiy ] * SAUCE: ACPI: EC: do transaction from interrupt context - LP: #277802 you can see the original here: http://lkml.org/lkml/2008/10/11/43 My suspicion with this patch is because I know that on this line of laptops from MSI, the BIOS EC region is not standard compliant, as you can see in the following: http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=9697 and http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=9627 So there is a good chance that this specific patch by Alexey Starikovskiy is the problematic one, as it is the only one I saw that changes the ACPI EC directly. [Bug 316199] Re: PA Sound Preferences mutes Front speaker volume by default
Could someone please explain why this bug filed as incomplete with importance of whishlist? I'm using a jaunty 64bit on a laptop, this laptop have only front speakers, nothing else, before the change to the new simplified volume Volume Applet, I was using the master channel to control the global volume setting, while the front channel volume was set to 90%. After this change to simplified volume applet, the front channel volume is set to 0, which prevents me from hearing sounds. Changing the preferences of Volume applet, so it will control the Front channels doesn't help that much, because the volume setting of front channels is not restored after restart, so I have to change it manually each time. Also the shortcut keys on my laptop still controls the Master volume channel, and the slider in "Sound Preferences" (the one that shown in samjh's screenshot in the post above) also controls Master channel. So I think that the Front channel volume setting at least should be restored to the previous setting after restart, so the user can set it once as he sees fit and use the master channel to control the overall volume. [Bug 400290] Re: crashes upon attempting to ssh-connect
Ullix is right there. Removing UbuntuOne client, which was also installed on my machine, does solve the problem. Nautilus no longer crashes and successfully browsers all remote resources, such as ssh, smb and so on. I don't know what should be the right course for this bug: Should we add the ubuntuone client to this bug, along with nautilus? This bug is two sided, ubuntuone client makes nautilus crash, so its an ubuntuone bug. On the other hand, nautilus shouldn't be crashing with segfault, just because some application was installed, even if this application works with nautilus. cheers; P.S. [Bug 400290] Re: crashes upon attempting to ssh-connect
a small update: it's not the ubuntuone-client, it's the gnome integration package: ubuntuone-client-gnome: 0.90.3-0ubuntu1 that installs extensions into nautilus and causes the crashes. also I suspect that the following bugs are a duplicates: #400886, #400747, #400565 and possibly this one #400869 (although he is using jaunty and not karmic, but he may have ubuntuone-client-gnome installed) -- crashes upon attempting to ssh-connect https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/400290 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 400290] Re: [ubuntu karmic] nautilus crashes upon attempting to ssh-connect
Pedro: Ullix is using a Karmic (testing), so your first suggestion about stable release does not apply here. This crash does not create anything in /var/crash, so your second suggestion also does not apply here. And since the bug submitted is about nautilus, its probably not Kubuntu/Xubuntu related either. I'm expirincing the same on my PC. But I think that the problem is in gvfs or GLib, rather then the nautilus itself, since dmesg shows this: Jul 16 19:00:11 mark-laptop kernel: [ 1636.595758] <6>nautilus[4547]: segfault at 0 ip 7f48dfab3c30 sp 7fff63f296c8 error 4 in libglib-2.0.so.0.2103.0[7f48dfa56000+c5000] And the same error occurs if I try to open any networked resource, not just ssh. [Bug 415589] [NEW] g-p-m does not turn off the display after specified time-out
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager Hi all, I'm on a fully updated (for 2009-08-18) Karmic x86_64, gnome-power-manager does not turn the monitor off after the specified 10 minutes period. However if I kill g-p-m using $ killall gnome-power-manager and then start the g-p-m again it works fine, so I'm unable to produce the output of: gnome-power-manager --verbose, since it's acts just fine. Another thing is that, if I don't login at all and leave the system in the GDM greeting screen, the display does turns off as expected. [Bug 405908] Re: nautilus freezes while browsing video folder, reproducible
comment 9 is my apport-collect for nautilus, and I think I'm experiencing the same bug with a little twist. In my case opening a video file larger than 1GB (it was a few divx files in this case) with any video application (tested with totem, vlc, mplayer) through nautilus will cause nautilus to consume exactly 1GB of memory and then to get stuck with 100% cpu. but nautlius doesn't crash, it just don't response and consumes all the cpu. As A.Walton suggested in comment 8, I've tried to turn off preview for files, and in this case turning off preview for "Other previewable files" will remedy the problem, i.e. large video files can be opened from nautilus and all works well and nautilus doesn't consume memory or cpu. I looked over impact's dsdt and mine thoroughly and wasn't able to find any errors in the device(BAT1):method(_STA) section or the ones that related. Maybe there is a specific implementation of MSI that throws this errors, but than again it will affect many others along with any LG laptop owners, since MSI is making them also. I'm running now a 2.6.22-10-generic kernel from Gutsy, and the battery is detected and dmesg doesn't show any ACPI related errors. So there is obviously something wrong with ACPI code in 2.6.24 kernel, I've tried openSuse and fedora and they also show the same errors when ran from 2.6.24 and 2.6.23 kernels, but work fine with 2.6.22. I saw many related errors on the internet, but they all apply to much older kernels. Is there any more info we can give to help kernel developers? -- No battery detected in Alpha2 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/178125 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I do believe it's an upstream bug, since the same bugs shows in Fedora 2.6.24 kernel, openSUSE 2.6.24 kernel and Debian/expiremental 2.6.24 kernel. But it doesn't show in 2.6.22 or 2.6.23 kernels for any of the mentioned distro's. [Bug 439448] [NEW] notification area shows wrong icons. erratic behaviour
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-panel I'm using karmic x86_64, updated as of 2009-09-30. It's very hard to describe the bug, so a screen shot is attached. As seen on the screen shot, after start up the notification area gets scrambled, it shows, in case of this screen shot, two volume control icons, one of them is the actual volume control icon, and the other one is just a copy of it, it just sits there, clicking on it doesn't do anything, and right clicking on it will bring the standard notification area sub-menu. Also missing here is a network manager icon. However: The phantom icon can be a clone of any other icon in the notification area. I've seen already phantoms of bluez icons, network manager icons and so on. And the missing icon, can also be any of the other icons, there is no rule or consistency :) Also, killing the application with a missing icon will remove the phantom icon, starting the application afterwards will show a correct functioning icon. In the case of this screen shot, the missing icon was of a nm-applet, so after I killed the nm-applet, one of the volume icons (the phantom one) disappeared, I then started the nm-applet again, and the correct icon for it appeared and worked as intended. I haven't seen any related messages in the logs for this. If you need more information and/or some additional testing,I will be glad to do it. Thanks :) ProblemType: Bug Architecture: amd64 Date: Wed Sep 30 17:31:38 2009 DistroRelease: Ubuntu 9.10 ExecutablePath: /usr/bin/gnome-panel NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia Package: gnome-panel 1:2.28.0-0ubuntu3 ProcEnviron: LANG=en_US.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.31-11.36-generic SourcePackage: gnome-panel Uname: Linux 2.6.31-11-generic x86_64 ** Affects: gnome-panel (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug -- notification area shows wrong icons. erratic behaviour https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/439448 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
