[Bug 379914] [NEW] adsl setup with pppoeconf ist not working properly anymore.

2009-05-24 Thread Torsten
Public bug reported:

In Ubuntu 9.04, the DSL modem setup isn't working properly.
First setup with pppoeconf is running ok, but after the updates of Ubuntu 9.04,
pppoeconf suddenly failed and stopped and it's impossible for newbies to restart
the Internet access.
Please fix that problem really soon! Most people in my country are using a
DSL modem to get online
and not everyone has WLAN.

Thanks! ;-)

[Bug 81670] Re: failed to initialize HAL : gdm init script priority should be at least equal to dbus one

2007-07-23 Thread Torsten
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 25931 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/25931

I got a "new" addition to this.

If the user is taken from AD through pam_winbind, the same does happen.

User on local passwd file -> All ok.
Delete the user from passwd/shadow and take the one from AD -> Auth & Co does
work but the HAL bug does happening.

I got no idea whats wrong - the same configuration does work on Gentoo
for example.

[Bug 128200] Importing SMIME Cert in Kontact using Kleopatra failed

2007-07-25 Thread Torsten
Public bug reported:

Hi.

Try to import a smime cert in Kontact.
You've beeing asked for passwords to protect it - after that a message comes:

Unbekanntes IPC Kommando

You can't import certs, you can't show any certs. Don't know what to
tell anymore.

I can confirm, that using gentoo with gnupg-2.x (and only gnupg 2) +
kontact and kleopatra it does work.

[Bug 180019] Live/Install CD busybox tar -> invalid Tar magic error on a valid Gnu Tar Archiv

2008-01-02 Thread Torsten
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: busybox

Hi.
I want to clone another ubuntu installation on a new box.
I've tared the source tree with gnu tar (tar cpf) and wanted to extract it on
the new platform.
I've used x86 server install cd to boot up the system, copied the archiv on the
new filesystem and want to extract it.
md5sums are correct!
Using the tar from the livecd/installcd which is a symlink to busybox does
result in this error:

tar: Invalid tar magic

Although its a valid gnu tar Archiv.

I have to use a copy of a gnu Tar binary from an existing box (copied it,
libraries matched so it runs) and oh magic, i was able to extract the tar
archiv without this error.
Busybox tar is broken, this should be fixed or gnu tar should be delivered with
the livecd.

[Bug 207779] [NEW] postgresql-8.3 cluster locale should not be utf8

2008-03-27 Thread Torsten
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: postgresql-8.3

On Gutsy, the initdb command runs with locale=utf8.
I don't hesitate using utf8, but it prevents you from using any other charsets
which are not compatible (e.g. latin1).

I think it would be better to use C or POSIX locale and as default
encoding utf8, so you are still able to use other charsets than utf8
(initdb --locale=POSIX -E UTF8 ...)

[Bug 207467] Re: postgre not working because user postgres does not exist

2008-03-27 Thread Torsten
I got some more infos on that, as i am facing this problem too.
I am using winbindd and theres already a postgres user in the domain, so getent
passwd postgres does deliver already an accout.
The problem now is, that the "winbind" entries does not persist over time (i
have to refresh data with "id user" from time to time to get groups and users
back, as they get forgotten).
I'll going to file a bug for that problem, but in this case, the user does not
exists and u get this error.
Doing a lookup after the non local user account and redoing the command should
success than.

In case of the user already exists theres another problem, the creation
of the group does fail and the packet can not be installed, you have to
manually add the group and repair it to succeed.

[Bug 207791] [NEW] winbind forgets uid/name gid/name mappings in regulary periods

2008-03-27 Thread Torsten
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: winbind

Version 3.0.26a-1ubuntu2.3, Gutsy.

I am memeber of a domain, wbinfo -u and wbinfo -g are displaying users+groups
fine.
nssswitch isconfigured lile that:

passwd: compat winbind
group: compat winbind
shadow: compat winbind

Using getent passwd "domainuser" does succeed, id "domainuser" too.

However, after 10 minutes (this times varies), doing a "ls -l file" does only
show the uid of the user/group, the names are non persistent anymore.
I than have to do a manual refresh with getent or id (they succeed the first
time) and it works again, username + groupnames are there.
Thats really annoying because many tools and daemons are relying on persistent
users/groups, not only the uids.
Don't know why they get lost from time to time, but it happens everytime.
Using nscd does not help.
My workaround for now is to have a local copy in /etc/passwd, but not shadow,
to have a persistent uid/name mapping.

smb.conf winbind parameters:

winbind cache time = 10
winbind refresh tickets = true
winbind enum users = yes
winbind enum groups = yes
winbind use default domain = Yes
winbind offline logon = true

Any things i can do, tweaks, changes or something?

kind regards

[Bug 207779] Re: postgresql-8.3 cluster locale should not be utf8

2008-03-27 Thread Torsten
Its not about not using utf8 as default for databases, but not for the locale.
If you use e.g. de_DE.UTF8 as locale and issue this command:

createdb XX -E LATIN1

you get:

encoding LATIN1 does not match server's locale de_DE.UTF-8
DETAIL: The server's LC_CTYPE setting requires encoding UTF8.

This is what i mean with prevents, you can't create another database on
this cluster with latin1 charset like you suggested.

You are forced to utf8, even if you got some old databases which have to use
latin1.
Using posix or c as locale does not show this problem.
I knew how to create a new one (take initdb script, set encoding, locale + path
and its ready).
But upgrading from existing installations might fail here and behaves not like
previous versions (look at debian bug report).

Found some similar debian thread:

http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=472930

Hope this helps.

[Bug 69840] Re: Module ndiswrapper cannot be loaded

If the package is needed, shouldn't there be a package dependency
ndiswrapper - ndiswrapper-utils ?

Installing ndiswrapper-utils-1.8 package solved the problem on my system
as well.

[Bug 578720] Re: files get corrupted during file upload-download

It looks like I have the same problem.
I'm using
Ubuntu 10.04 LTS Server Edition
redmine 0.9.3-1 with mysql

It looks strange, like the content get's mixed up after some buffer is
used.

I've added 2 files.
Test.pdf - the file created by copy&paste of random content
and
Test_download.pdf - The same file after downloading it from a ticket.

[Bug 1802691] Re: Slow send speed with Intel I219-V on Ubuntu 18.04.1

2019-01-07 Thread Torsten
I also encountered network performance degradation on my server, however I'm
not running Ubuntu but Debian with a self-compiled kernel. With bisecting the
kernel, I could track this issue down to this commit between 4.14.2 and 4.14.3:
https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux.git/commit/?id=0f478f25d50cb6464678284a13f514fefc16e271

I was tempted to undo this change in my kernel, however this change
works around a bug in the I219 adapter and I didn't want to end up with
an unstable system. Related to this bug I read about TCP segmentation
offload and changed tso and gso values with ethtool. Eventually "ethtool
-K enp0s31f6 tso" off did the trick for me and network performance is
back to normal. You might have to change the name of enp0s31f6 to the
name of your Ethernet adapter or play with on/off values for tso and
gso.

In order to persist this setting after a reboot, I created a udev rule
that calls ethtool, maybe this option works for you as well.

[Bug 1920202] Re: Updated to kernel 5.4.0-67-generic and Xen DomU stoped working

More installations are effected (see
https://askubuntu.com/questions/1324283/unable-to-add-disk-devices-for-

Running Ubuntu 20.04.2 LTS with xen 4.11

After the last kernel update 5.4.0-67 and a server restart none of the
guests were started. Trying to start a domU manually I got the following
error message:

libxl: error: libxl_device.c:1130:device_backend_callback: Domain

Only reverting to the previous kernel 5.4.0-66 solved the problem.

[Bug 900384] Re: usbipd requires usbip_common_mod.ko and usbip.ko kernel modules, which are not available in any package

2016-03-24 Thread Torsten
found this on usbip.sourceforge.net:

Download

For Linux, the source code of usbip was merged into the staging tree,
and finally has been moved to the mainline since Linux-3.17. Development
is ongoing in the kernel community, not here. Linux distributions will
provide binary packages of usbip. Just for historical records, the
project page keeps old download files of the Linux version. Do not use
them.

However, in newest kernel it don't work (4.4.0-12 / lubuntu 16.04) even if i
can find:
./lib/modules/4.4.0-12-generic/kernel/drivers/usb/usbip
./lib/modules/4.4.0-12-generic/kernel/drivers/usb/usbip/usbip-host.ko

[Bug 958549] Re: Black screen on guest with anything except Cirrus

2012-09-25 Thread Torsten
The problem still remains. Nothing has happend? I have tried the same under
12.10 from daily builds and here the qxl video out is working fine, (although i
had massiv problems in installing the driver under server 2003 due to a missing
qxl.inf in the actual driver package. I solved it by using an older package for
xql video driver i found in the web)
So what has changed and why it hasn been solved for 12.04 backwards?

[Bug 358654] Re: udevadm trigger is not permitted while udev is unconfigured

2010-10-08 Thread Torsten
I installed Ubuntu 10.04.1 on a 64-bit machine. There is a fake-raid
configuration on my machine. All went well until I tried to update my
system. I run into the following error: "kernel panic unable to mount
root fs on unknown-block". Nothing helped but re-installing my system.
After re-installation and update my system again I got "udevadm trigger
is not permitted while udev is unconfigured" and I found this thread.
Thx for the solution (update-initramfs -u -k all fixed it)! btw: If you
were on Windows and it would crash your whole system after a regular
update, what would you say ...?

2008-11-28 Thread Torsten Bronger
Still not working in Intrepid. I suggest an option switch: By default,
bubbles are suppressed when a full-screen app is in the foreground (and
only then!), or they are shown always.

Note that the sound signal of the bubble can be heard always, so it's
inconsistent at the moment.

[Bug 376581] [NEW] minor packaging and/or dependencies bugs

2009-05-14 Thread Torsten Eichstädt
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gcc-4.2-source

The packages needed to compile gcc-source could be in the "suggested" section.
E.g. besides a standard C dev environment, gcc-source depends on dpatch and
autoconf-2.13 (for ADA config things).
The patches subdir is not under debian, but in the root.
The D sources are missing, but are listed in rules.patch.
debian/changelog and debian/runcheck.sh are missing; this doesnt matter much
because the patch script goes on.
But you could supply empty templates.

It was not clear to me wether to configure or patch first, and how to supply
parameters to rules.source.
So I did
$ nohup nice make -f rules.source patch
and after I removed rules related to ADA and D all patches succeeded.

[Bug 72872] Re: Users do not have permission to open files in DVDs burnt in a Mac

2009-06-29 Thread Torsten Landschoff
This problem has also bugged me, albeit on Debian. And I spent an hour
or two to do it "the right way" and get UDF (in that case) to ignore the
permissions on the filesystem.

After playing with mount options to no avail, I finally gave up and
became root to get the discs content copied.

I think it really sucks to enter an optical disc and be unable to read
it because of permission problems. There should be a mount option to
ignore permissions for udf and iso9660 and this should be enabled per
default in fstab. The thing is: This will probably need kernel
changes...

[Bug 394242] [NEW] usetex: wrong spacing

2009-07-01 Thread Torsten Bronger
Public bug reported:

I use 0.98.5.2 with PDF output and the following settings:

matplotlib.rcParams["text.usetex"] = True
matplotlib.rcParams["text.latex.preamble"] =
r"\def\rmdefault{ud2}\usepackage{eulervm}\usepackage{color}"
matplotlib.rcParams['text.latex.unicode'] = True

("ud2" is a special font that I use.)

Now,

axes.set_ylabel(ur"I in mA/cm$^2$")

causes the $^2$ being placed above the "m", so the spacing is
incorrect. I can repair it by inserting \kern0.3em after the "cm".
Or, I can append text after the $^2$, which curiously makes the
spacing correct.

[Bug 371595] [NEW] parted crashes with "double free or corruption" message

2009-05-04 Thread Torsten Hilbrich
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu: 9.04
Version: 1.8.8.git.2008.03.24-11.1ubuntu6

Libraries:
libparted1.8-10 1.8.8.git.2008.03.24-11.1ubuntu6
libc6 2.9-4ubuntu6

Steps to reproduce the problem:

1. mkdir -p /tmp/abc/abc/abc/abc/abc/abc/abc/abc/abc/abc/abc/abc/abc/abc/abc
2. cd /tmp/abc/abc/abc/abc/abc/abc/abc/abc/abc/abc/abc/abc/abc/abc/abc
3. dd if=/dev/zero of=foobar bs=25M count=1 && parted -s foobar -- mklabel
msdos && parted -s foobar -- unit kB mkpartfs primary ext2 1 -1

Expected result: Creation of image foobar containing a msdos-style
partition table with a single ext2 partition

Got result: parted creates partition but crashes during a free call with
the error message shown at the end of message

NOTE 1: if the path contains one less element (cd
/tmp/abc/abc/abc/abc/abc/abc/abc/abc/abc/abc/abc/abc/abc/abc) the error do not
happen, so it seems related to the canonical name of the image parted works on.
NOTE 2: Bug is not reproducible with upstream version 1.8.8 of parted (Patch
needed for compiling included in this report).

Here is the error message of glibc:

[Bug 364713] [NEW] removing bluetooth USB adapter crashes kbluetooth4

2009-04-21 Thread Torsten Ekedahl
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kdebluetooth

I am using a bluetooth USB adapter, TRUST BLUETOOTH V2.0 USB ADAPTER CLASS 2,
It works fine except that when I remove it, kbluetooth4 crashes with a SIGSEGV.
Only kbluetooth4 is killed, bluetoothd and kblueplugd keep running and one or
both of them restart kbluetooth4 when the adapter is reinserted.

The crash dialog tells that no usable backtrace was generated so I
cannot give you that.

I am using version 1:0.3-0ubuntu2~intrepid1~ppa1 of kdebluetooth.

ProblemType: Bug

[Bug 334218] [NEW] digikam not installable with kde 4.2 backport

2009-02-25 Thread Torsten Krah
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: digikam

This bug is related to Ubuntu Backporters.
Since the upgrade to 4.2 digikam 2:0.9.4-1ubuntu1 can not be installed together
with other kde 4.2 related stuff like before, so there is a regression.

libkipi6, kdegraphics and gwenview can not be installed with digikam but i want
to have both, which was possible before kde 4.2 (4.0, 4.1).
Please release new digikam packages which are build against those new libraries.

I am using ubuntu 8.10 (using proposed + backports)

[Bug 368397] [NEW] After closing a dialog, a switch to another full-screen application occurs

2009-04-27 Thread Torsten Bronger
Public bug reported:

Situation: Application A is in full-screen mode and not minimized.
However, I work with application B, which is not full-screen but in the
foreground.

B opens a dialog window. I close this dialog (e.g. by clicking on the
"Ok" or "Yes" button). Now, Ubuntu does not switch back to the main
window of B but to A. Thus, I have to use Alt-Tab to be able to resume
my work with B.

I use Ubuntu 9.04 with Gnome; any visual desktop effects are switched
off.

[Bug 378023] [NEW] kget leaves icon on the screen

2009-05-18 Thread Torsten Eichstädt
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kget

On startup, kget shows an icon (a harddisk with a green arrow on top) that
falls from the top of the screen. It periodically swings around the middle of
the screen for a few seconds and then stays there.
Although this is a really fancy eye-candy bringing the future of computing to
my desktop, I'd like to express my irritation about why this icon has to stay
there until I log off?!

[Bug 293346] [NEW] 3D Graphic stop working after resume and resolution change

2008-11-03 Thread Torsten Spindler

The 3D graphics disappear and a white frame is shown, with 2D graphics
continuing to work. After switching to virtual console and back the 3D
graphics are restored.

[Bug 293346] Re: [Hardy] 3D Graphic stop working after resume and resolution change

2008-11-04 Thread Torsten Spindler
I compiled the 2.4.1 sources and used them, the behavior is the same.

Here the relevant part from /var/log/Xorg.0.log

(II) LoadModule: "intel"
(II) Loading /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers//intel_drv.so
(II) Module intel: vendor="X.Org Foundation"
compiled for 1.4.0.90, module version = 2.4.1
Module class: X.Org Video Driver
ABI class: X.Org Video Driver, version 2.0

[Bug 293943] [NEW] acpi-support broken on asus models

2008-11-04 Thread Torsten Krah
Public bug reported:

Using my wlan key i can't get it on again - so i've looked deeper in the
scripts and found following errors / wrong assumptions.

The /etc/acpi/events/asus-wireless-on does trigger on 005f, but this should
be 005e.
The /etc/acpi/events/asus-wireless-off does trigger on 005e, but this
should be 005f.

So both events are "swapped" - at least on my P35 modell here (monitored
using acpi_listen and asus_laptop modul).

And the next things which breaks all is the state function setLEDAsusWireless.
These function does only work if, and only if, the call to
/sys/devices/platform/asus-laptop/wlan does control the LED - but thats not
true for a P35/P35.
Echoing 0 or 1 to this device, you are controling the real hardware kill
switch, not only the led. This can be monitored by watching the rf_kill device
and watching the state become "3" = hardware kill when echoing a 0 do the wlan
device.
So this call should never be done, because the led does itself "knows" if wlan
is toggled on or off (if you don't use the softkill rf_kill variant - but from
a hardware perspective this is true).

The solution to me is - to completly comment out the script calls for
now as it would break my wlan if i ever use this button - but that can't
be a real solution.

[Bug 292364] [NEW] slapd init.d file fails to set -f or -F

2008-11-01 Thread Torsten Ekedahl
Public bug reported:

In the init.d slapd script, -f $SLAPD_CONF or -F $SLAPD_CONF is added to
$SLAPD_OPTIONS only if $SLAPD_PIDFILE is the empty string. This is strange as
SLAPD_PIDFILE is one of the
variables that it is suggested that one could set in /etc/default/slapd. The
result is that if one sets SLAPD_PIDFILE in /etc/default/slapd then setting
also SLAPD_CONF in it will have no effect.

[Bug 184721] Re: linux-source-2.6.22-2.6.22 ships with deprecated asus_acpi.ko

2008-11-02 Thread Torsten Krah
There will be no fix it looks like on upstream - the new driver does not
support the stuff like the old one did and it does not look like the new
maintainer will be write support for the missing features.
So both modules are needed!
Using Intrepids 2.6.27 i'll miss the asus_acpi module - asus_laptop does not
work on my P30/P35.
So please readd.

[Bug 224649] Re: limited to 4 alternative keyboard layouts - any reason?

Why do you think it is an xorg limitation? KDE does not have the problem
which is xorg based, too.

Torsten

We have users that need up to 20 keyboard layouts which is possible in
KDE and Windows. Why does have GNOME such limitations?
