There will be no fix it looks like on upstream - the new driver does not support the stuff like the old one did and it does not look like the new maintainer will be write support for the missing features. So both modules are needed! Using Intrepids 2.6.27 i'll miss the asus_acpi module - asus_laptop does not work on my P30/P35. So please readd.
