[Bug 121168] Re: Baobab (Disk usage analyser) reports the total diskspace incorrectly

2008-06-29 Thread Ricardo Pérez López
I totally agree with bastafidly & Garoth. IMHO, the default should be
not to include gvfs.

[Bug 121168] Re: Baobab (Disk usage analyser) reports the total diskspace incorrectly (~/.gvfs must be ignored by default)

2008-06-29 Thread Ricardo Pérez López
IMHO, check .gvfs by default in Baobab causes totally disconcerted
users.

I've a 135 GB ext3 partition. When I scan my home folder (or the entire
filesystem), Baobab shows:

"Total filesystem capacity: 269,8 GB (used: 240,8 GB available: 29,0
GB)".

However, if I uncheck gvfs-fuse-daemon in Edit->Preferences, and then
click on "Scan Home" again, I get:

"Total filesystem capacity: 134,9 GB (used: 120,4 GB available: 14,5
GB)".

Which is correct, but not FULLY correct. See the "df -h" output:

FilesystemSize Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/sda2 135G 121G 7.7G 95% /

Baobab says I've 29,0 GB or 14,5 GB available (depending on the options
selected in Edit->Preferences), but "df -h" says I've 7,7 GB available.

What is the correct value?

[Bug 244086] [NEW] Baobab reports incorrect available diskspace value

2008-06-29 Thread Ricardo Pérez López
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: baobab

I've a 135 GB ext3 partition, mounted as "/" (root), with 7.7 GB free
space (reported by Nautilus).

When I scan my home folder (or the entire filesystem), Baobab shows:

"Total filesystem capacity: 269.8 GB (used: 240.8 GB available: 29.0
GB)".

which is NOT correctly in any way.

If I uncheck gvfs-fuse-daemon in Edit->Preferences, and then click on
"Scan Home" again, I get:

"Total filesystem capacity: 134.9 GB (used: 120,4 GB available: 14.5
GB)".

Which is ALMOST correct, EXCEPT the free available space (it should be
7.7 GB instead of 14.5 GB).

Finally, if I do "df -h" on a Terminal, I get the three correct values:

Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/sda2 135G 121G 7.7G 95% /

Therefore, I think:

1. To check gvfs-fuse-daemon by default in Baobab causes totally wrong
values. Baobab should ignore it by default. The gvfs-fuse-daemon device
must be unchecked in Edit->Preferences windows by default.

2. Baobab reports incorrect available diskspace value, regardless of the
options selected in Edit->Preferences.

FYI, this is the full "df -h" output in my system:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ df -h
FilesystemSize Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/sda2 135G 121G 7.7G 95% /

lrm 505M 38M 468M 8%
/lib/modules/2.6.24-19-generic/volatile
/dev/sda1 142G 132G 9.7G 94% /media/sda1
gvfs-fuse-daemon 135G 121G 7.7G 95% /home/ricardo/.gvfs

[Bug 244086] Re: Baobab reports incorrect available diskspace value

2008-06-29 Thread Ricardo Pérez López
Interesting: it looks like "df" computes the available diskspace
incorrectly, because 135 - 121 = 14, which is NOT equal to 7.7:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ df -h
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/sda2 135G 121G 7.7G 95% /

So, it looks like the problem is in "df" and Nautilus, NOT in Baobab.

Please, can anyone take a look at this problem? It's very frustrating to

Curiously, I haven't heard about simple-ccsm package until now. However,

Ubuntu could do some more publicity of simple-ccsm (for example,
suggesting it in gnome-app-install instead of compizconfig-settings-

Thanks.

[Bug 290552] Re: Pidgin should default to "Show system tray icon: On unread messages"

2008-12-03 Thread Ricardo Pérez López
+1 for Alex. Before trying to change the default tray icon behavior, we
must try not to lose the minimize-to-tray feature *by default*. That
could be considered as a regression. Also, changing the default setting
isn't obvious for all users.

"Additionally, the HIG states that if it does anything other than
opening a window, it should be an applet, rather than showing up as if
it was a notification icon."

Pidgin (formerly Gaim) had an applet some time ago, but was replaced by
the minimize-to-tray feature, AFAIK.

[Bug 273220] Re: Pidgin icon matches the user-switcher-applet too much

2008-12-03 Thread Ricardo Pérez López
+1 Lucky LIX.

Many, many applications drop an icon persistently in the notification
area: NetworkManager, aMSN, Pidgin, Bazaar GTK, Dropbox, aMule,
Transmission...

IMHO, trying to change the default behavior of other applications
(losing functionality, also) because of feature duplicity is a step back
that might be considered.

[Bug 273220] Re: Pidgin icon matches the user-switcher-applet too much

2008-12-03 Thread Ricardo Pérez López
I'm against the status icon duplicity (I'm the bug 291846 initial
reporter), but IMHO the solution is not to change the default Pidgin
behavior nor to lose its "docking" feature in the notification area.

I propose the following solution: to remove at all the status icon from
FUSA. Two use cases:

1. The user isn't running Pidgin: In this case, the FUSA status icon
isn't necessary. There's no reason to have it.

2. The user is running Pidgin (and its status icon in the notification
area): In this case, the FUSA status icon isn't necessary, because
there's already one status icon in the panel.

3. The user is running another IM tool (not Pidgin): In this case, that
IM tool could possible have its status icon, so we drop to use cases #1
or #2.

IMHO, fixing one only application is better and easier than fixing many.

[Bug 290552] Re: Pidgin should default to "Show system tray icon: On unread messages"

2008-12-03 Thread Ricardo Pérez López
The status icon is the access point to all the IM application. You can't
access to the buddy list using Fast User Switch Applet.

Without the Pidgin status icon, you must have the buddy list always
opened, which is an obvious lack of ergonomy.

Moreover, we are talking about Pidgin, but... what about any other IM?
What about aMSN, Emesene, Gajim, Skype or Ekiga? Are all these programs
wrong? Are all they need to be fixed in order to not having a status
icon by default?

IMHO, this is not the right direction. We can't expect to be able to
replace the docking feature of all the present and future IM
applications with only one applet (FUSA). IMHO, we must to stay, think
and reconsider what's the FUSA status change usefulness. If the problem
is only about icon duplicity, we propose to remove the FUSA status icon
(see
https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pidgin/+bug/273220/comments/9
for more details).

By the way: I'm using both Pidgin and aMSN at the same time. When I
change my status using FUSA, aMSN is not affected. What IM applications
are affected by the FUSA status change?

+1. IMHO, that's the best solution we can have by now. That way, we
could have consistency without duplicity and without lack of features.

About the panel applet for all IM apps, it must have a right-menu option
(or similar) to open the IM app main screen you selected.

Rob,

The "AutoAddDevices OFF" workaround works as you tell:

1. Fix the repeat delay problem for the left, down & end keys.
2. Fix the repeat speed problem (the keys seems to be faster when you press and
hold down any of them).
3. However (sadly) the multimedia keys no longer works.

Obviously, this is a step forward, while waiting for an upstream

[Bug 299013] [NEW] Scrollbar doesn't adhered to Fitt's law when two or more tabs opened

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Version: 1:2.24.1-0ubuntu1

Steps to reproduce:

1. Open two tabs inside Nautilus.

Expected behavior: You can use the scrollbar normally, because the
scrollbar is touching the very right edge of the screen.

Actual behavior: The scrollbar doesn't obey the Fitt's law, so I can't
use the scrollbar when the mouse cursor is at the very right edge of the
screen. I must to move the mouse cursor to the left a little bit in
order to get the scrollbar "responses" to my mouse clicks.

[Bug 375457] Re: Incorrect translation in South-American Spanish for Video folder

2009-05-15 Thread Ricardo Pérez López
Please, don't change a translation already done before discussing it in
the ubuntu-es-l10n and/or the GNOME mailing list. We should use the same
criteria used by the GNOME upstream translators, and they use «vídeo»
over «video»:

http://git.gnome.org/cgit/gnome-menus/tree/po/es.po
http://git.gnome.org/cgit/gnome-media/tree/po/es.po
http://git.gnome.org/cgit/brasero/tree/po/es.po

That kind of changes must be proposed in upstream first, in order to get
a consistent translation across all the distributions.

[Bug 388154] [NEW] Unable to login into my MSN account with telepathy-butterfly

[Bug 388167] [NEW] Accounts list is too narrow (I can't read the whole account names)

2009-06-16 Thread Ricardo Pérez López
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: empathy

In account manager (Edit->Accounts), the accounts list in the left pane
is too narrow, so I can't read the whole account names (the names are
wrapped).

I propose to extend the list width so the column could contain the
account names fully.

Another solution could be to rearrange the UI in the accounts dialog to
have more space for a wider accounts list.

I attach an screenshot to illustrate the problem.

  * libltdl-dev -> libltdl7-dev

 -- Luke Yelavich Sun, 14 Jun 2009 09:36:29 +1000

pulseaudio (1:0.9.15-3ubuntu1~ppa1) jaunty; urgency=low

  * Update to latest karmic package
  * Add extra patches from Colin Guthri's stable patches git branch:
[...]
  * 0090_fix_sw_mute_desync.patch: Drop, as this is backported code that is
included in the above patches.
  * Also drop
debian/patches/0001-alsa-allow-configuration-of-fallback-device-strings-.patch

 -- Luke Yelavich Sun, 14 Jun 2009 09:18:58 +1000

Moreover, the source code contains the patch renamed to
0106-core-make-sure-soft-mute-status-stays-in-sync-with.patch.

So yes: the Luke's PPA packages has the patch applied, although it

Following the instructions from

I've got the following:

1. I'm able to connect to the MSN account, but the buddy list shows empty (show
as nobody were online, which is false; some friends of mine are always
connected).
2. After disconnect and then reconnect to the MSN account, I finally get the
buddy list with the online friends, but I can't start to chat with any of them.
When I double-click on any buddy, nothing happens. The same when I right-click
on a buddy an select 'Chat'.

I attach the empathy.log. Hope this helps.

[Bug 389046] [NEW] The conversation window shows my account name in a right pane like an IRC chat window (only happens with MSN contacts)

[Bug 389948] [NEW] gem1.9 install the gems on /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.9.0 instead of /var/lib/gems/1.9.0

2009-06-20 Thread Ricardo Pérez López
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rubygems1.9

gem1.9 incorrectly install the gems on /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.9.0 instead
of the correct /var/lib/gems/1.9.0, so the Ruby 1.9 system can't find
any gem:

rica...@kadath:~$ sudo gem1.9 install wirble
Successfully installed wirble-0.1.3
1 gem installed
Installing ri documentation for wirble-0.1.3...
Updating class cache with 0 classes...
Installing RDoc documentation for wirble-0.1.3...
rica...@kadath:~$ ls /var/lib/gems/1.9.0/
rica...@kadath:~$ ls /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.9.0/gems/
wirble-0.1.3
rica...@kadath:~$ irb1.9
irb(main):001:0> require 'rubygems'
=> false
irb(main):002:0> require 'wirble'
LoadError: no such file to load -- wirble
from (irb):2:in `require'
from (irb):2
from /usr/bin/irb1.9:12:in `'
irb(main):003:0>

A workaround is to create a symlink from /var/lib/gems/1.9.0 to
/usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.9.0:

rica...@kadath:~$ sudo rm -rf /var/lib/gems/1.9.0
rica...@kadath:~$ sudo ln -s /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.9.0 /var/lib/gems/1.9.0
rica...@kadath:~$ irb1.9
irb(main):001:0> require 'rubygems'
=> false
irb(main):002:0> require 'wirble'
=> true
irb(main):003:0>

Now, the Ruby 1.9 system can find any gem installed with gem1.9.

[Bug 358641] Re: Incorrect Translation in Spanish Network (ENG)->Red (SPA) ¿?-> Rojo (red c olour)

2009-06-04 Thread Ricardo Pérez López
No, the string isn't hardcoded, but netbook-launcher is in universe, so
the translations are not included in any langpack (like language-pack-
gnome-es), but in the .mo file included in the package.

Maybe the language-pack-gnome-es task is not the right one to mark this
bug as Commited, because that langpack is not related in any way. I'll
mark Commited the netbook-launcher task, even though the problem isn't
in the code, but in the translation.

2009-06-04 Thread Ricardo Pérez López
Langpacks has nothing to do with the translations of the Universe
software, because that translations go into the software packages
themselves. In order to get this translation issue fixed, the netbook-
launcher package must be re-packaged with the latest translations from
trunk as an SRU. As far as I know, that's the responsibility of the
ubuntu-universe-sponsors team, which has been already notified by this
issue as a subscriber of this bug.

[Bug 358641] Re: Incorrect Translation in Spanish Network (ENG)->Red (SPA) ¿?-> Rojo (red c olour)

2009-06-12 Thread Ricardo Pérez López
Hi, David. This is a translation issue, and was fixed on 2009-05-13 in
the trunk template:

  https://translations.launchpad.net/netbook-remix-launcher/trunk/+pots
/netbook-launcher/es/26/+translate

(That's the meaning of the "Fix Commited" status.) Previously, the above
#26 string was "Rojo", but now is "Red".

In order to fully fix the issue, we need to rebuild the netbook-launcher
package to include the latests translations updates into the package
itself.

The current netbook-launcher version is 1.6.20-0ubuntu2, so we could
build the 1.6.20-0ubuntu3 version with the latests translations and
without any change in the code.

I hope to have explained well :).

[Bug 382074] Re: Dynamically mounted ext3 file systems are not writable by users

2009-06-12 Thread Ricardo Pérez López
** Summary changed:

- Mounted ext3 file systems are not writable by users
+ Dynamically mounted ext3 file systems are not writable by users

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: hal

A friend of mine (an average Ubuntu Jaunty user) recently bought a new
internal SATA hard disk. After installing and formatting it with ext3
filesystem, he complains about Ubuntu mounts it with read-only
permissions, so he can't write anything on it.

  Steps to reproduce:

  1. Install a new internal SATA hard disk into the computer.
  2. Use Gparted to create a new ext3 partition into it.
  3. Restart hal or reboot. The new drive is displayed in Places->Computer.
  4. Click on the drive to mount it.

  Result:

  - The drive is mounted read-only. You can't create any folder or file on it.
  - The mount point is /media/disk, with "root" owner, "root" group and
"rwxr-xr-x" permissions.

- To gain write permissions into the drive, you must manually enter:
+ WORKAROUNDS:
+ ==
+
+ 1) Change the default permissions to 777:

$ sudo chmod 777 /media/disk

Since then, you have full write access to the new drive, and hal
"remembers" the new permissions, so the write access is granted every
time you reboot, and you don't need to retype the chmod command every
  time.

- Therefore, I think hal should get 777 permissions by default on the
- mountpoint of any new hard disk drive, like /media/disk and so. Without
- that, an average user will not have full read/write access to the new
- drive, minimizing his/her user experience and maximizing his/her
- frustration.
+ 2) Change the default owner to $USER:
+
+ $ sudo chown $USER /media/disk
+
+ This is what hal already does when you insert a FAT32 volume (i.e. an
+ USB pen drive or an SD card).
+
+
+ Therefore, I think hal should do any of the above by default on the
mountpoint of any new hard disk drive, like /media/disk and so. Without that,
an average user will not have full read/write access to the new drive,
minimizing his/her user experience and maximizing his/her frustration.

[Bug 387045] [NEW] dia-gnome can't print (causes sigpipe)

2009-06-14 Thread Ricardo Pérez López

Steps to reproduce in a fully updated Jaunty:

2. Click on File -> Print
3. Keep default options selected (Printer, lpr)
4. Click on OK

Result: The printing doesn't work. Nothing is sent to the printer. An
error dialog is displayed with the following error message:

"Printer error: command 'lpr' caused sigpipe."

and then another error message:

"Printing error: command 'lpr' returned 256"

[Bug 387505] [NEW] Drop-down list items in Edit->Preferences shows untranslated, but some are translated and others can't be translated

2009-06-15 Thread Ricardo Pérez López
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

[Using Jaunty]

In Nautilus, at Edit->Preferences dialog, drop-down list items shows
untranslated in my Spanish desktop. However, I can't translate it
because they're not in the Launchpad template, which is fully translated
as you can see here:

https://translations.launchpad.net/ubuntu/jaunty/+source/nautilus/+pots/nautilus/es/+translate

For example, on Edit->Preferences, Preview tab, you can see "Local Files
Only" and "Always" options, which can't be found in the template:

https://translations.launchpad.net/ubuntu/jaunty/+source/nautilus/+pots/nautilus/es/+translate?batch=10&show=all&search=Local+Files+Only

https://translations.launchpad.net/ubuntu/jaunty/+source/nautilus/+pots/nautilus/es/+translate?batch=10&show=all&search=Always

However, there are some other strings which are fully translated into
Spanish and are displayed untranslated. For example, the "Icon View" and
"By Name" strings can be seen (untranslated) on Edit->Preferences, View
tab, albeit they're translated in Launchpad since some years ago:

https://translations.launchpad.net/ubuntu/jaunty/+source/nautilus/+pots/nautilus/es/535/+translate

https://translations.launchpad.net/ubuntu/jaunty/+source/nautilus/+pots/nautilus/es/539/+translate

[Bug 352732] Re: [jaunty] Sound muted after boot

2009-06-16 Thread Ricardo Pérez López
Daniel, Luke:

Could you please provide an updated binary package for Jaunty via PPA or
something similar? It could be great in order to test the fix on Jaunty.

If not, what about backporting the 0090_fix_sw_mute_desync.patch to the
current pulseaudio 1:0.9.14-0ubuntu20 on Jaunty?

Thanks in advance.

[Bug 352732] Re: [jaunty] Sound muted after boot

2009-06-16 Thread Ricardo Pérez López
I'm not a great programmer, but I tried backporting the
0090_fix_sw_mute_desync.patch to pulseaudio 0.9.14 (it's a small set of
changes). After rebooting, all seems to works OK, although I need to do
a deeper investigation due to the erratic and random nature of this
issue in my system (i.e. sometimes the sound is muted after boot,
sometimes not).

I'll take a look during several days.

[Bug 387833] [NEW] Evolution should minimize to Indicator Applet

2009-06-16 Thread Ricardo Pérez López
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: indicator-applet

Evolution should minimize to Indicator Applet like Pidgin does now, i.e.
when you click on Close or Minimize buttons in Evolution, it should
"hides" inside Indicator Applet and disappears from the task bar. When
you want to open the Evolution window again, you should only need to
click on Indicator Applet -> Evolution Mail.

[Bug 381299] Re: gnome-keybinding-properties actions are not translated

2009-05-28 Thread Ricardo Pérez López
Juanje, I opened the bug #359247 about this issue on 2009-04-10. You
must close this bug and open a Guadalinex task on #359247 in order to
avoid duplication. Thanks :).

[Bug 382074] [NEW] New hard disk drive mounted read-only by default

2009-05-31 Thread Ricardo Pérez López
Public bug reported:

To gain write permissions into the drive, you must manually enter:

  $ sudo chmod 777 /media/disk

Since then, you have full write access to the new drive, and hal
"remembers" the new permissions, so the write access is granted every
time you reboot, and you don't need to retype the chmod command every
time.

Therefore, I think hal should get 777 permissions by default on the
mountpoint of any new hard disk drive, like /media/disk and so. Without
that, an average user will not have full read/write access to the new
drive, minimizing his/her user experience and maximizing his/her
frustration.

[Bug 382108] [NEW] Untranslated "Drive" and "Volume" tabs labels in volume Properties dialog

2009-05-31 Thread Ricardo Pérez López
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-mount

The "Drive" and "Volume" tabs labels in volume Properties dialog shows
untranslated in my Spanish desktop, albeit they're translated in
Launchpad since 2008-03-07:

https://translations.launchpad.net/ubuntu/jaunty/+source/gnome-mount/+pots/gnome-mount/es/93/+translate

https://translations.launchpad.net/ubuntu/jaunty/+source/gnome-mount/+pots/gnome-mount/es/92/+translate

("Drive" -> "Unidad" and "Volume" -> "Volumen")

and the translations are into the gnome-mount.mo file:

  rica...@kadath:~$ strings -eS
/usr/share/locale-langpack/es/LC_MESSAGES/gnome-mount.mo | grep
"Unidad$\|Volumen$"
  Unidad
  Volumen

To reproduce:

1. Click on Places->Computer.
2. Right-click on a volume icon (i.e. a Windows partition or whatever "xx GB
Media").

I attach an screenshot to illustrate the problem.

[Bug 382114] [NEW] When you enter a typo in Drive or Volume tabs of Properties dialog, the volume will not mount anymore and you can't correct the mistake

2009-05-31 Thread Ricardo Pérez López
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-mount

Steps to reproduce:

1. Go to Places->Computer.
2. Right-click on any volume and select Properties (the volume must be
previously mounted).
3. Click on Drive or Volume tabs.
4. Click on Settings to show the mount options.
5. Enter any wrong information in the "Mount point", "Filesystem" or "Mount
options" fields. Try, for instance, entering "foo" (without the quotes) in
"Mount options" field and enter "good" or reasonable values in the other two
fields.
6. Unmount the volume and try to mount it again.

Result: An error dialog appears indicating that the volume couldn't be
mounted (as expected, because you entered wrong mounting options on step
#5). However, you can't fix the wrong options because you can't access
to the Drive and Volume tabs until the volume has been mounted, and you
can't mount the volume because the mount options are wrong. There's no
way to fix the bad options entered on step #5.

The bug is fully reproducible and could lead to have an inaccessible
volume without an easy way to repair the access to the volume.

 Importance: Undecided

Thanks for the reply. I'm using Ubuntu 9.04, fully updated. Now I can

2009-05-31 Thread Ricardo Pérez López
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 231218 ***

It seems to be a duplicate of bug #231218, because it refers to invalid
mount options, not invalid mount point as in bug #107668.

** This bug is no longer a duplicate of bug 107668
Setting an invalid mount point can make a removeable media unaccessible
