[Bug 252094] Re: MASTER: Poor graphics performance on Intel
I had many many issues with this intel gm965/gl960 video card before (with ubuntu 8.04 and 8.10) *It didn't support opengl 2.1 *lot of graphics errors on it's interface *Google earth worked really bad, windows "collapsed" and things strange With ubuntu 9.04 now I can work with opengl 2.1 but in it's default installation, it still had error 2 and 3 and also I experienced some performance issues. With it's default installation glxgears gives me only 60 FPS in my laptop (Too bad). After add Option "AccelMethod" "UXA" in my xorg.conf file glxgears starts working arround 400 FPS (more than 4 times improved the speed) and all errors before are fixed. I don't know exactly why it happens, but when I added Option "AccelMethod" "UXA" to my xorg.conf everything seems to be working fine and google earth works great! Hi t fix all these things I updated xserver-xorg-video-intel to version 2.7 and put this in /etc/X11/xorg.conf: Section "Device" Identifier "Configured Video Device" Option "UseFBDev" "true" Option "AccelMethod" "UXA" EndSection (It could be done with sudo gedit /etc/X11/xorg.conf) Follow this page to get instructions how to install latest version of intel driver from x-updates: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat/+archive/x-updates The latest version of intel video driver fixes many, many many things!!! perfomance is really enhanced (test it with glxgears for example) Many issues with video like glxgears, googleearth, compiz, and things like that are fixed!! I suggested this version of driver should be default driver for Jaunty and others but somebody rejected my opinion and said to me "if you want to get latest driver install it from x-updates" Then I'm trying to resolve this myself. If you want to enable compiz in Jaunty you can do it adding this SKIP_CHECKS=yes to one of these files: ~/.config/compiz/compizconfig/config ~/.config/compiz/compiz-manager I added the line to both files because I'm not sure wich one is correct in Ubuntu, but at least it is working really great than before! -- 3D stuff breaks with Compiz: Redirected Direct Rendering is needed in DRI https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/96991 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 213705] [NEW] (hardy) video play's slow when wireless is working on msi pr200
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: totem On Ubuntu Hardy 8.04 when I can't play videos while my wireless is connected and working, something strange happens and the video movies play's really really slow. If I turn of radio wireless the video movies start to working fine again. This is really strange and I have no idea why it's working at that way. I made a normal installation for hardy and have have up to date all the packages. Do you have some idea? My computer is the small laptop MSI PR200. All the other features for ubuntu works great !(except this and standby feature) this realease with this laptop is amazing, after I install Ubuntu it starts working with video acceleration, sound, webcam, bluethoth and wireless. [Bug 176332] Re: amarok does not work with pulseaudio [hardy]
It's truth It works with libxine1-gnome, after install the package you can select esd as a sound server on amarok. Also I had to install kcontrol and set the configuration for arts to work with esd. I think is very important that these configurations come by default on Ubuntu 8.04, end users don't know anything about pulseaudio, esd, etc. -- amarok does not work with pulseaudio [hardy] https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/176332 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 202791] Re: [Hardy] audacity fails to playback a sound file due to no device
Fine, what you will do with this? I know audacity works when it's only audacity recording and playing with alsa drivers, but if you start another application to play music at the same time, sound on audacity crashes. Do you know if there are some module for pulseaudio to take control of all alsa request or something like this? It happens with all applications that doesn't have support for esd, skype for example is exactly the same. If I'm play sound while open skype, skype starts without sound; but if I'm close or stop playing this application an open skype it works. -- [Hardy] audacity fails to playback a sound file due to no device https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/202791 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I don't know, I think amarok will not autodetect to use pulseaudio if alsa fails. Also I don't have idea howto install xine pulse patch, i tried to search for a package: apt-cache search xine pulse but i didn't find anything. Now It's working amarok for me with esd after install libxine1-gnome I had to set manually amarok engine to use esd. [Bug 216894] [NEW] artsd in hardy is not correcly configured by default to work with pulseaudio
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: arts By default arts is in autodetect, but for some reason it uses alsa instead of use esd as a driver output. For this reason when I'm playing sound KDE application can't get sound system working. I changed arts to work with esd, I installed kcontrol to do it later I read in pulseaudio.org that we can change it for all the users by default. See this information: KDE ¶ KDE 3 uses the artsd sound server by default. However, artsd itself can be configured to use an Esound backend. Edit kcmartsrc (either in /etc/kde or /usr/share/config for global configuration or .kde/share/config to configure only one user) like this: [Arts] Arguments=\s-F 10 -S 4096 -a esd -n -s 1 -m artsmessage -c drkonqi -l 3 -f NetworkTransparent=true SuspendTime=1 KDE 4 uses Phonon as the main audio interface. The Xine backend of Phonon should eventually use PulseAudio automatically, but at the time of writing the pulse plugin for Xine is too unreliable, so it's disabled by default. While waiting for that to get better, Phonon uses Alsa. Therefore, to get Phonon to use PulseAudio, you have to edit your ~/.asoundrc or /etc/asound.conf. However, the normal .asoundrc modifications aren't enough. See #232 (specifically the workaround part). I think it should be done by default in arts package. [Bug 573455] Re: gdm not starting on bootup with nvidia driver
In this forum http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=167422 I found some information that fix the problem, basic steps are: 1) Download the correct driver from nvidia web page (I couldn't get it fixed with Ubuntu driver at any way) 2)Purge nvidia packages: sudo apt-get purge nvidia-* 3) Create the file "/etc/modprobe.d/nvidia-graphics-drivers.conf" with the following contents: blacklist vga16fb blacklist nouveau blacklist lbm-nouveau blacklist nvidia-173 blacklist nvidia-96 blacklist nvidia-current blacklist nvidiafb 4)create or adjust the /etx/X11/xorg.conf file to: Section "Device" Identifier "Device0" Driver "nvidia" VendorName "NVIDIA Corporation" EndSection 5) reboot (You can also unload nvidia modulos and the others that I put in blacklist with command "modprobe -r module", example: modprobe -r nouveau 6) If you restarted it will tell you that it can't start X ( low graphics mode ) , then choose a text based console login (if it does start in X, just press ctrl-F1, log yourself in and call "sudo service gdm stop" or "sudo stop gdm" 7) run the nvidia installer and when it asks to run nvidia-x-config, answer yes To run the nvidia installer, you should go to the folder with driver (ej: cd Downloads). Change the installer permissions to be executable (chmod +x fileoftheinstaller.sh), execute the installer (sudo ./fileoftheinstaller.sh) 8) Restart, it should start xorg automatically -- gdm not starting on bootup with nvidia driver https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/573455 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Thanks for all this information! I didn't know this system76, seems to be good.
