[Bug 336508] Re: kiki crashed with ImportError in ()

2009-04-02 Thread Durand D'souza
I get the same problem. Another problem is that kiki tries to install
the python-wxgtk2.6 dependency which it doesn't actually need as python-
wxgtk2.8 will do. It also doesn't need to *be* a dependency for spe. If
I remove kiki because python-wxgtk2.6 keeps crashing on install, spe is
also removed even though I still want it.

[Bug 128571] gdmgreeter crashed with signal 5

2007-07-26 Thread Durand D'souza
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

After an update, gdm seems to have segfaulted and just crashes as soon
as it starts. It repeatedly restarts and crashes, until it shows an
error which is something along the lines of GDM has just crashed 6 times
in the last 60 seconds, it will be run in 2 minutes. After 2 minutes, it
does the exact same thing.

I temporarily fixed logging in by installing kdm and running sudo kdm.
That works so it must be a gdm error.

[Bug 124197] Re: python produces "NameError: name 'OverflowWarning' is not defined" errors making key programs stop working

2007-07-26 Thread Durand D'souza
I think I've made a lot of progress now. Seems like my user settings are
what's causing the problems... I added a new user with a clean home
directory and gnome-app-install works perfectly. Now, the only thing
left to do is to find the offending configuration file... Oh and some
programs still dont wanna work but most do work. Programs that don't
work include gnome chess and sudoku...

[Bug 124197] Re: python produces "NameError: name 'OverflowWarning' is not defined" errors making key programs stop working

2007-07-26 Thread Durand D'souza
Ok, I'm currently on the live cd and I can't reproduce it. I don't know
whether it makes a difference but since its on a live cd, I can't test
dist-upgrading... gnome-app-install works fine though as do all the
other apps that had this problem...

I'm not sure what this is supposed to do but I tried chrooting into my
ubuntu install from the live cd. Then I ran dist-upgrade, it still gave
errors like this:

I seem to keep getting this error no matter what version of ubuntu I
have since feisty. When I did a fresh install of Feisty, I had this
error. When I did a fresh install of Gutsy, I got this error. This
causes some python programs to stop working entirely while makes other
programs give out errors. Here's an example. I try to run gnome-app-

[Bug 72643] Re: Log directory fills hard disk regularly

2007-05-04 Thread Durand D'souza
I've had this error before. See
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=419389

All I did to remove it was delete all the big log files in .beagle/Log/.
It seemed that beagle kept looping on one file creating a huge log that
filled my partition. You could use a livecd and install baobab, use that
to find which files are the biggest, then just delete them. I didnt
notice any problems after that.

[Bug 552826] [NEW] Ibus anthy plugin can't find ibus python module

2010-03-31 Thread Durand D'souza
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ibus-anthy

After some recent updates, anthy in ibus has stopped working. The other
input methods still work. This is the error I get when trying to start
anthy.

dur...@tritium ~> ibus-daemon --verbose
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/usr/share/ibus-anthy/engine/main.py", line 25, in
import ibus
ImportError: No module named ibus
(ibus-daemon:12803): IBUS-DEBUG: From ::1.1 to :1.2, Error:
org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.Failed : Can not get value [panel->position]
...

After a bit of investigating, I discovered that the ibus main.py file
does not seem to have some essential python directories in it's path. I
really have no idea why this has happened. In any case, this is what
sys.path outputs from main.py:

['/usr/share/ibus-anthy/engine', '/usr/lib/python2.6/site-packages', '',
'/usr/lib/python2.6/', '/usr/lib/python2.6/plat-linux2',
'/usr/lib/python2.6/lib-tk', '/usr/lib/python2.6/lib-old',
'/usr/lib/python2.6/lib-dynload']

And this is what sys.path looks like from an interactive python shell:

['', '/usr/lib/python2.6', '/usr/lib/python2.6/plat-linux2',
'/usr/lib/python2.6/lib-tk', '/usr/lib/python2.6/lib-old',
'/usr/lib/python2.6/lib-dynload', '/usr/lib/python2.6/dist-packages',
'/usr/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/PIL', '/usr/lib/python2.6/dist-
packages/gst-0.10', '/usr/lib/pymodules/python2.6', '/usr/lib/python2.6
/dist-packages/gtk-2.0', '/usr/lib/pymodules/python2.6/gtk-2.0',
'/usr/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/wx-2.6-gtk2-unicode',
'/usr/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/wx-2.8-gtk2-unicode',
'/usr/local/lib/python2.6/dist-packages']

As you can see, there are a huge number of paths missing. Other python
applications seem to be working fine so I'm not entirely sure what the
problem is here.

I managed to fix this by manually adding the paths needed by ibus-anthy
with the following line in main.py, just about the import ibus line:

sys.path.extend(['/usr/lib/pymodules/python2.6/','/usr/lib/pymodules/python2.6/gtk-2.0/'])

This seems to be working but it isn't a permanent solution. Is there a
reason for this to happen in the first place?

Thanks

[Bug 388904] Re: Nautilus 'Computer' displays redundant labels

2009-12-30 Thread Durand D'souza
I would also love to see this behaviour reverted. I have my main hard
drive partitioned into about 15 partitions and all I see when I go to
the Computer is 15 instances of 250GB Hard Disk... while the rest has
been truncated. This does not help me choose the right icon. It does not
even give me useful information. If it gave me the size of the
partition, it might help. I don't really care about how big the overall
medium is, I just want to know how much spcae is available to me and it
is silly to assume that the size of the drive is the same as the space
availabe. I also really think that this is just an eye sore and
completely unnecessary. If anyone needs to know how big their hard drive
is, they can easily right click on the icon and go to properties or
simply use the System Manager.

[Bug 500565] [NEW] Python failed to find the sonata modules.

2009-12-26 Thread Durand D'souza
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: sonata

Sonata doesn't seem to work in lucid. I get the following error when
trying to start it.

Python failed to find the sonata modules.

Searched in the following directories:
/usr/bin
/usr/lib/python2.5
/usr/lib/python2.5/plat-linux2
/usr/lib/python2.5/lib-tk
/usr/lib/python2.5/lib-dynload
/usr/local/lib/python2.5/site-packages
/usr/lib/python2.5/site-packages
/usr/lib/python2.5/site-packages/PIL
/usr/lib/python2.5/site-packages/gst-0.10
/usr/lib/python2.5/site-packages/wx-2.6-gtk2-unicode
/usr/lib/python2.5/site-packages/wx-2.8-gtk2-unicode

Perhaps Sonata is improperly installed?

I think this may be due to this bug: https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/bugs/204895
However, it says that a fix has been commited and I still get the error.

2012-05-13 Thread Durand D'souza
Andreas, I like Unity. I think it is slower that gnome 2 + compiz but
change is good once in a while and there is no room for innovation
unless we change things. I have also used compiz since the beryl/compiz
split and I really love it. By the way, you can move windows between
desktops with Ctrl-Alt-Shift-arrow. Works perfectly for me.

[Bug 1070568] [NEW] Nautilus shouldn't call itself "Home Folder" when it isn't in the home folder

2012-10-23 Thread Durand D'souza
Public bug reported:

I guess it could be a translation error but when switching to nautilus
in Unity, it shows up as Home Folder even when it is in another folder.
This seems really discontinuous and not very user-friendly or practical
because if I choose it, it doesn't take me to my home folder. Ideally,
it would be based on the title of the nautilus window, which is
generally the name of the folder it is in but failing that, even just
File Manager would be a better choice than Home Folder.

Screenshot attached showing this discrepancy.
