Ok, I'm currently on the live cd and I can't reproduce it. I don't know whether it makes a difference but since its on a live cd, I can't test dist-upgrading... gnome-app-install works fine though as do all the other apps that had this problem...
I'm not sure what this is supposed to do but I tried chrooting into my ubuntu install from the live cd. Then I ran dist-upgrade, it still gave errors like this: Get:106 http://gb.archive.ubuntu.com gutsy/main apparmor-utils 2.0.1+510.dfsg-0ubuntu24 [64.4kB] Fetched 72.0MB in 4m55s (244kB/s) Extracting templates from packages: 100% Preconfiguring packages ...
