Ok, I'm currently on the live cd and I can't reproduce it. I don't know
whether it makes a difference but since its on a live cd, I can't test
dist-upgrading... gnome-app-install works fine though as do all the
other apps that had this problem...

I'm not sure what this is supposed to do but I tried chrooting into my
ubuntu install from the live cd. Then I ran dist-upgrade, it still gave
errors like this:

So, any ideas? I will add a new user to my ubuntu install with sudo permissions
and see if I still get these errors.
