[Bug 73023] Re: Round orange emblems have lack usability

2009-05-06 Thread Bitterjug
Hey guys, I just came here because as of upgrading to Jaunty I no
longer have my old alternative emblem set.

Like Ivan, I find the round orange emblems unhelpful and have been
enjoying using the multicoloured odd-shaped ones I got when I switched
to the Tangerine icon set. Today I switched to tangerine again but still
have orange round emblems which I find almost impossible to
differentiate among.

Reading this thread it seems to me there ought to be a bunch of icon
themes available and folks like me who are prepared to put up with ugly
icons for usability can chose them. But where have my old emblems gone?

Mark

[Bug 739812] Re: Must use hardware keyboard to perform search for applications in Unity

2012-03-16 Thread Bitterjug
According to post #28 this is fixed in Oneiric, but from reading the thread I
can't tell what the fix is.
I've been trying to use my active digitizer laptop with Oneiric Unity 3d and
Cellwriter but there is no obvious way to enter text into the dash with
cellwriter. Please explain what the fix was, thanks.

[Bug 661801] Re: unity: closing fullscreen apps yields unprettiness

2010-12-30 Thread Bitterjug
I have a similar experience, but on closing a fullscreen app I dont see
white, just the desktop background.

I Installed Maverick UNR (on Acer aspire revo),

can reproduce by: open firefox, f11 to go full screen (unity bars auto-
hide), f4 to close. All see is the background and the mouse cursor, no
way to display Unity buttons

[Bug 695763] [NEW] No drop-down menus anywhere in natty alpha

2010-12-30 Thread Bitterjug
Public bug reported:

Running natty from a usb stick to test the new unity.
I have no drop-down menus anywhere:

The top panel ubuntu menu, clock, sound and network manager icons dont have
drop downs.
Normal appllication menus don't appear (though the relevant menu item shows a
highlight when selected)
And in firefox, combo drop downs don't appear either.

[Bug 1176161] [NEW] Since latest Kernel upgrade I cannot suspend or shut down

2013-05-03 Thread Bitterjug
Public bug reported:

I installed a recommended upgrade from 3.8.0-19.29 to 3.8.0-19.30
Since then both suspend and shutdown suspend.
Shutdown gets as far as the purple screen with ubuntu in the middle and orange
dots cycling underneath, and then stays in that
state indefinitely.
Suspend will log me out and back to the unlock locked-screen dialog.

[Bug 1176161] Re: Since latest Kernel upgrade I cannot suspend or shut down

2013-05-08 Thread Bitterjug
On May 3rd i couldn't shut down or suspend as described above. I tried several
cold boots on the day.
Today -- 8 May -- I no longer experience these issues. Suspend and resume as
well as shut down appear
to work as expected. Unfortunately this means I can no longer reproduce the
problem and can't use
my system to test the upstream kernel as you suggest.

What the hell changed? I apologise for raising a bug that I am no longer
able to reproduce myself.

[Bug 730020] Re: ubuntuone-client blocks logout while syncing

2011-07-08 Thread Bitterjug
Then it seems an inadequate solution since it does not give the user the
information they require to make an appropriate choice and does not indicate
the consequences of choosing to shut down anyway.
- The sync might be downloading rather than uploading (backing up), and as a
user, I might choose differently depending which is in progress.
- Even if it is still backing up my files, sometimes I'm in a hurry and I would
like to take the risk, sometimes i'm not and Im prepared to wait. I'd like to
know the consequence of my choice so I understand the risk.
- The message I see is that some process is running, I would prefer if when I
try to shut down the message says "Ubuntu One is still syncing (followed by
some measure of progress or what kind of operations are in progress) are you
sure you want to interrupt it?"

[Bug 769597] Re: padevchooser does not work in Natty

2011-07-30 Thread Bitterjug
Hi Daniel

I used to do a nice trick with padevchooser: switching "default server"
was a quick way to send my laptop audio to the media server plugged into
the living room speakers. I have not been able to figure out how to do
that with either pavucontrol or the command line (but I'd prefer a quick
gui switch) any recommendations? I'm missing padevchooser.

[Bug 614825] [NEW] upstart fails to start mysql in mysql-server-core-5.1.41-3ubuntu12.6, downgrading fixed

2010-08-07 Thread Bitterjug
Public bug reported:

Yesterday we got mysql-server-core-5.1.41-3ubuntu12.6 in the daily update.
I noticed MythTV not working properly.
"% $ status mysql" gave "stop/waiting" and "sudo start mysql" gave something
like "restart failed" on the command line, though in fact it the daemon would
start. I had a look at the release notes for this package and found some
changes to apparmour and other stuff relating to the upstart script, after
trying to figure it out I downgraded to mysql-server-core-5.1.41-3ubuntu12.3,
which is what I had yesterday, and its working again.

I'm attaching log files. We got the upgrade on 6 aug and I downgraded at
about 20:00 today (7 august). Hope this helps.
