[Bug 251934] Re: right clicking selected calendar event acts like clicking on open space

2008-07-25 Thread Bill Gjestvang
Possibly related: Also in only "Week" and "Month" views, double
clicking an event doesn't open it, unless you already had it selected.

[Bug 251995] [NEW] Editing reccurrence for "This Instance Only" locks out recurrence editing

2008-07-25 Thread Bill Gjestvang
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

Create a new Friday appointment that recurs weekly, forever. Go back in
and change the recurrence from Friday to Saturday. Click "Save" on the
appointment, and it'll ask if you want to save it for "This Instance
Only" or "All Instances".

Alright, this is the first problem. It makes no sense to edit the
occurrence for a single instance.

Select "This Instance Only", and save it. Now, when you go back in, the
recurrence information is grayed out, and you can't change it. This is
true of both the instance you changed or any other instance. You can
see that the instance you changed has no recurrence info, but all others
have the original recurrence info. But you can't change any of them.

Also, nothing actually changes day. Not even the one you told to.

You can regain access to the recurrence settings by changing the time
for all appointments. But the state of the series never seems quite
right again, and it seems to lead to cascading badness, possibly
including crashes.

This was produced using a local calendar.

Running the current Hardy code:
evolution 2.22.3.1-0ubuntu1

Another observation here, indicating that things are messed up, is after
you've played with this for a bit, you can stop and restart evolution,
and sometimes the calendar looks much different. So what gets saved
isn't the same as what it thinks it's saving.

[Bug 252003] [NEW] Changing date of recurring appt/mtg gets double mtgs, removes earlier

2008-07-25 Thread Bill Gjestvang
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

If you change the date of a recurring appointment or meeting, you get
appointments/meetings on both days, plus you delete all earlier
instances of the appt/mtg.

To reproduce:
(1) Create a new weekly appointment.
(2) Open the 3rd instance of the appointment.
(3) Change the date to the previous day.
(4) Click "Save"
(5) When prompted, click "All Instances", then "OK"

Results:
(1) The mtgs/appts from the first 2 weeks are completely gone.
(2) From the 3rd week forward, there are now mtgs/appts on both days.

Expected behavior:
(1) Earlier meetings should not be deleted. They should either remain where
they were, or move by the same amount as the later appointments.
(2) Each week should have only one meeting, on the new day.

I'm running the latest Hardy packages:

Not specific to exchange. Looks like you have to click on the text of
the appt. title, and then right-click that same text. Then it gives the
"background" menu.

If you either click on the left end (the time), or right click there, or
both, you get the correct menu.

[Bug 371111] [NEW] [Micro-Star International GX700] suspend/resume failure [non-free: nvidia]

2009-05-02 Thread Bill Gjestvang
Public bug reported:

Suspend/resume still fails in jaunty with this laptop. This report was
generated with the a/c power plugged in.

Behavior with A/C power plugged in:
-Appears to suspend normally. Power light goes off, sleep light is on.
-Press the power button, and the laptop tries to power on. Then it shuts
itself off again. Then it turns itself on again, but just sits there and does
nothing, for as long as you wait.
-Hold down the power button to turn the system off.
-Press the power button, and the system boots normally (no resume)

When the system is running on battery power, the behavior is slightly different:
-Appears to suspend normally. Power light goes off, sleep light is on.
-Press the power button, and the laptop tries to power on. Then it shuts
itself off again.
-Press the power button, and the system boots normally (no resume)

Hibernate/resume works fine. It's just suspend/resume that doesn't
work.

This happens 100% of the time.

resuming properly.

[Bug 251930] [NEW] right clicking calendar event partially uses other event

2008-07-25 Thread Bill Gjestvang
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

This only happens in "Day" and "Work Week" view. It is reproducible.

If you have selected a calendar event, then right click a different one,
it gives you the context menu of the selected item, not the one you
right clicked. You can tell because the menus for recurring meetings
are different than those for single-instance meetings.

So, if you select a recurring meeting, and right click a single-instance
meeting, you see "Delete this Occurrence" and "Delete All Occurrences"
in the menu, when you should see only "Delete". The reverse is also
true.

If you then select "Delete this Occurence" for a single-instance
meeting, it fails with the error "The event could not be deleted due to
an error". If you select "Delete All Occurrences" on a single-instance
meeting, it deletes fine.

If you select "Delete" on a recurring meeting, it deletes all
occurrences.

I'm using an exchange calendar to test this. I'm running the latest hardy
packages:
evolution 2.22.3.1-0ubuntu1
evolution-common 2.22.3.1-0ubuntu1
evolution-data-server 2.22.3-0ubuntu1
evolution-data-server-common 2.22.3-0ubuntu1

[Bug 251934] [NEW] right clicking selected calendar event acts like clicking on open space

2008-07-25 Thread Bill Gjestvang
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

This only happens in "Week" and "Month" view. It is reproducible.
Possibly related to bug 251930.

If you have selected a calendar event, then right click it, you get a
context menu that looks like you clicked in an open area of the
calendar. There are no options for open, move, delete, etc. Only new
this, new that, etc.

If you have nothing selected, or some other appointment selected, before
right-clicking, you get the correct menu. If you have something else
selected, right-click, and delete, it deletes the correct item (the one
you right clicked). So it's only a problem when you right click what's
already selected.

I'm using an exchange calendar to test this. I'm running the latest hardy
packages:
evolution 2.22.3.1-0ubuntu1
evolution-common 2.22.3.1-0ubuntu1

[Bug 215614] Re: Evolution Exchange unreliability in Hardy

2008-05-21 Thread Bill Gjestvang
I've been seeing similar stuff in Hardy. I upgraded from Gutsy, which
wasn't trouble free, either. Currently in Hardy, it just stops
receiving and sending mail, without my noticing for a while. Sometimes
I get a popup error, like "The Evolution tasks have quit unexpectedly."
These happen at least every couple hours. I am always restarting
evolution. I have to monitor Outlook Web Access just to see whether
evolution is actually working.

[Bug 221019] Re: Evolution GAL lookup lost

2008-06-11 Thread Bill Gjestvang
I can confirm that I'm seeing the same problem with the latest versions in
Gutsy. I used evolution-exchange all through Feisty, and earlier. Currently,
my global address list never works. Doesn't work in autocompletion, pulling up
the search tool while addressing a new email, or in the contacts. Other
contact lists work, including the exchange contacts list, but not the GAL. So
I have no way to get addresses except to use OWA, or to search through old
emails.

[Bug 353577] Re: [Micro-Star International GX700] suspend/resume failure [non-free: nvidia]

2009-04-01 Thread Bill Gjestvang
Correction on the details of what happens:

Suspends immediately, using the GUI or pm-suspend
Sleep light is flashing, system is otherwise powered off
I press the power button
The system powers on, then off, then on again on its own
The screen remains blank
I have to power it off and back on, and then it boots normally (not a resume)

[Bug 344687] Re: [Micro-Star International GX700] hibernate/resume failure [non-free: nvidia]

2009-04-01 Thread Bill Gjestvang
I also have an MSI GX700, running the non-free nvidia. I've always had
that same problem, but now it behaves a little differently. Rather than
a flashing cursor, I now get a kubuntu logo and the message "Waking up.
Please wait...", but it never gets past that.

But if I boot with "no_console_suspend", switch to a text console, and
run "sudo pm-hibernate", it will successfully resume back to the text
login. There is an additional message on the screen, "iwlagn: MAC is in
deep sleep!". And, if I press ALT-F7 to get back into Xwindows, the
screen goes blank, and I can't bring it back except by power cycling.
This looks very much like what happens on a normal resume, with the
bootsplash disabled. So it seems like Xwindows is getting hung up.

[Bug 148846] workspaces reduced to 2 when cancelling visual effects

2007-10-03 Thread Bill Gjestvang
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

1. Start with an gnome desktop that doesn't have visual effects, using more
than 2 workspaces (I had 4 and 8)
2. Enable visual effects (right click the desktop, "change desktop background",
"visual effects" tab, check one of the radio buttons to enable visual effects)
3. Click "cancel" when asked if you want to keep the changes.

Result: Your previous settings will be restored, except that you will
have only 2 workspaces, instead of the 4, 8, or whatever you had
previously.

This is reproducible.

[Bug 135471] Re: Addressbook crash when searching contacts by "any field contains"

2007-10-03 Thread Bill Gjestvang
OK, I'm seeing it again, in the same versions as Waldorf. The latest
gutsy-devel. Reopening.

Nothing shows up in /var/crash, and apport doesn't run. I can't find a
particular process that this seems to belong to.

It looks like I may have been wrong when I said that it didn't matter
which addressbook you used, and that it was 100% repeatable. Right now,
I can repeat it 100% of the time using one particular local address book
(lots of entries), running Gutsy-devel. Perhaps there's some field that
it's tripping over, which I've now deleted from most of my address
books.

How can I get more info about what's going on? Which process is it?
Would a stack trace do any good if no process hangs or ends?

[Bug 138262] focus stays on format drop-down menu

2007-09-08 Thread Bill Gjestvang
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

When you click on the formatting dropdown menu ("Normal", "Preformat",
"Bulleted List", etc.), and select an item, the focus remains on the
dropdown. So, if you start a bulleted list, you have to click back into

Expected behavior is that the focus should return to the message field,

[Bug 135471] Addressbook crash when searching contacts by "any field contains"

2007-08-29 Thread Bill Gjestvang
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

The evolution addressbook crashes whenever I search my contacts list by
"any field contains", unless all contacts match the search. So if any
one contact doesn't match the search, the addressbook crashes.

The popup message I get:
"Evolution Error
The Evolution addressbook has quit unexpectedly.
Your contacts for file:///home/bill/.evolution/addressbook/local/system will
not be available until Evolution is restarted."

100% repeatable.

To repeat:
(1) Go into your contacts list (any addressbook)
(2) Change the search to "Any field contains"
(3) Enter some text that shouldn't match any contacts
(4) Press enter
And it should pop up a dialog with the above error.

No crash files are created in /var/crash.

[Bug 61857] Re: Crashed whilst typing new recipient

2007-08-29 Thread Bill Gjestvang
This seems to be much improved with the latest gutsy updates. I can
still get it to crash, but the crash is a bit different. See bug
135336, which is "evolution crashed with SIGSEGV in
giop_recv_buffer_get()". Note that that's in evolution, not evolution-
exchange.

I now have to type a lot more addresses to get it to crash. And as for
address books, I only need the GAL enabled, with or without others.
Without the GAL, it doesn't happen.

I believe that public folders are now only scanned if subscribed to.
I'm not 100% sure, but in my folders list, I don't even see public
folders that I'm not subscribed to.

As for the authentication issues, I had run into some similar issues a
while back, possibly in edgy as well. But those seem to have gone away

[Bug 120611] Re: in evolution cannot move recursive events

2007-08-29 Thread Bill Gjestvang
I've recreated something similar under gutsy. Here's what I did:
(1) create an event that recurs weekly forever
(2) move the 2nd instance to a different day, different time, and different
length of time
(3) change all instances (selecting one from the normal time) to be a different
time and length of time

Then you'll see that the special instance from #2 has a second copy back
on the original day, but at the time and length of time from #2.

Binary package hint: evolution-exchange

I'm running evolution against an exchange server. When I subscribe to
my group's calendar under Public Folders, it doesn't show up (under Mail
or under Calendars). I think the problem is that it has the same name
as my Exchange calendar, "Calendar". The full path to the public one is
"Public Folders/My Group/Calendar", which should also show up under
"Favorite Public Folders/Calendar".

Other calendars with different names show up fine.

Ubuntu Gutsy devel
evolution 2.11.91-0ubuntu1
evolution-exchange 2.11.6.1-0ubuntu1 (also checked 2.11.91-0ubuntu1)

[Bug 135896] Re: Calendars don't show subscribed public folder with same name

2007-08-30 Thread Bill Gjestvang
I just figured out a workaround to this, which is to add a new calendar.
For "type", select your exchange account. For "location", select the
shared calendar (which must be in your favorites/subscribed).

Still, calendars without overlapping names just show up automatically.
This workaround isn't really intuitive.

[Bug 61857] Re: Crashed whilst typing new recipient

2007-08-30 Thread Bill Gjestvang
This appears to be fixed in evolution and evolution exchange
2.11.91-0ubuntu1 in gutsy-devel. (Both from the release notes and my
own testing.) If anyone is still seeing it in gutsy with at least that
version, please report it here.

(The amd64 build for that hasn't been released as of this writing, just
i386.)

Does this still happen on current releases?

[Bug 53426] Re: libapache2-mod-python2.4: mod_python segfaults when using mod_php at the same time and both have enabled mysql

2007-09-03 Thread Bill Gjestvang
I'm not seeing this on feisty with the following installed and enabled:
   libapache2-mod-php5 5.2.1-0ubuntu1.4
   libapache2-mod-python3.2.10-3ubuntu1
   phpmyadmin 2.9.1.1-2ubuntu1
And logging into phpmyadmin.

Are you still seeing this in current versions (feisty or gutsy)? Are
there any extra steps that must be taken to reproduce this, that I've
missed?

[Bug 53662] Re: Installation fails on IBM PC Server 330 with ServeRAID controller

2007-09-03 Thread Bill Gjestvang
The "ips" driver is for the IBM ServeRAID. The dapper install CD used
driver version 7.12.02, and gutsy-devel is using the same version. On
the dapper boot CD, casper/initrd.gz contains the ips driver.

Possible causes might be (1) a new revision of the ServeRAID chip that
isn't listed in pcitable in dapper, (2) the CD isn't trying to load the
driver when looking for the CD, (3) bad CD, or (4) bad CD drive.

Please provide the following information to help narrow this down:
(1) Is this still happening in current versions of ubuntu?
(2) If it's still happening, try running "Check CD for defects" when booting
the install CD. That should rule out faulty media and faulty CD drive.
(3) If you have another version of Linux that boots on the machine, even from a
rescue CD, please post the output of "lspci -v", which is the list of PCI
devices.
