[Bug 250211] Re: Intrepid: WLAN LED blinks incessantly on iwl3945 | iwl4965 laptop

2008-11-20 Thread Saady Amin
Base on solution by Paweł Kłeczek's post. You have to run the file each
time you log in. Note the file is made executable so may have to enter
password for running. Good thing is it stopped blinking in my HP
Pavilion dv6500.

Here's the smdb.conf file;

#
# Sample configuration file for the Samba suite for Debian GNU/Linux.
#
#
# This is the main Samba configuration file. You should read the
# smb.conf(5) manual page in order to understand the options listed
# here. Samba has a huge number of configurable options most of which
# are not shown in this example
#
# Some options that are often worth tuning have been included as
# commented-out examples in this file.
# - When such options are commented with ";", the proposed setting
#differs from the default Samba behaviour
# - When commented with "#", the proposed setting is the default
#behaviour of Samba but the option is considered important
#enough to be mentioned here
#
# NOTE: Whenever you modify this file you should run the command
# "testparm" to check that you have not made any basic syntactic
# errors.
# A well-established practice is to name the original file
# "smb.conf.master" and create the "real" config file with
# testparm -s smb.conf.master >smb.conf
# This minimizes the size of the really used smb.conf file
# which, according to the Samba Team, impacts performance
# However, use this with caution if your smb.conf file contains nested
# "include" statements. See Debian bug #483187 for a case
# where using a master file is not a good idea.

Here's the info you requested;

dpkg-query -W -f='${Package} ${Version} ${Source} ${Status}\n' | grep samba

It seems to happen when the Server is rebooted or smbd is re-started and
the Win client has not re-connected and sends a print job, that creates
the problem. The client re-connects when you do a file operation on
samba shares, then printing works successfully after that.

It is used as a Home Office Server with Print and File Services for
Windows (2 XP and 1 Vista) Laptops, using exim4 and ined-ipop as an
e-mail server for the domain infostrada-systems.com. Also using it to
browse the Net with Firefox, to convert DVD's to mpeg with FFMPEG, using
VLC Player to view movies and listen to music. Wine is installed to
occasionally run Quicken 98 Home and Business, all seems to work fine.
Yeah it's quite a workhorse. The hardware is AMD Athlon64 3300+
therefore seems to be running 64bit version of OS.

There are 2 printers installed an HP OfficeJet 6310 AIO and an old
Minolta QMS PagePro 1250W BW Laser, both are working fine and printing
Test pages from the Ubuntu Server and Win clients successfully.

There is an entry in fstab to load the memory card share on the
OfficeJet printer using smbfs, it's working fine.

The latest version of Ubuntu is my first install, never upgraded it.
I've been installing Updates automatically as recommended by the System.

One of the laptops it is a corporate laptop therefore locked down, when
at the office or VPN, I connect to the Ubuntu server using ssh, and
tunnelling port 139 for windows shares to the localhost:139

I was using WXPP prior but it was grinding to a halt and having to
reboot daily.

Therefore I decided to give Linux a shot, Ubuntu was recommend by
friends. Installed Ubuntu with wubi (Windows) tool, and now it is the
default OS on reboot. Am very happy with Ubuntu am planning to remove
Windows from that machine.

Thanks,
Amin

Re: [Bug 388483] Re: The Samba 'panic action' script, /usr/share/samba/panic-action, was called for PID 30992 (/usr/sbin/smbd)

2009-06-23 Thread Amin Akbarali
Hi Thierry,

Thanks for looking into this issue. I've encountered this several times
since our last e-mail exchange, but I managed to find some logs in
/var/log/samba, am attaching the file here.

The last incident was on June 20 16:06:21 I've also attached the text of the
panic e-mail from that incident.

I noticed some permissions errors in the log file, so I attempted a fix by
putting the user nobody in the same group as sambashare and now it seems I'm
not getting the panic e-mails again. So I wonder if that was the issue?

Basically the Ubuntu computer is a unprotected File and Printer Server in a
private network in my home office behind a NAT Firewall therefore I'm not
too concerned about security.

Thanks again,
Amin

[Bug 286628] [NEW] Intrepid Beta Kernel Fails to Boot on Sylvania G (Cloudbook Rebrand)

2008-10-20 Thread Amin Astaneh
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-image

Description of problem:

I am attempting to PXEboot a Sylvania G using the Intrepid Beta vmlinuz and
initrd from:

 http://mirrors.ccs.neu.edu/releases.ubuntu.com/8.10/ubuntu-8.10-beta-
alternate-i386.iso

I copied the kernel, initrd.gz, and the cli.seed file into a directory
for tftp.

I am using these boot options for pxelinux:

default linux
label linux
kernel vmlinuz
append file=cli.seed initrd=initrd.gz debug earlyprintk=vga,keep
initcall_debug --

The boot process halts on the message:

ACPI: EC: Look up EC in DSDT

which is located in the

acpi_init+0x0/0xe1 call.

In previous versions of the kernel (2.6.24 in Hardy), this condition
never occured.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

2.6.27 (Was never able to determine what the full revision was, since I can't
boot it)

How reproducible:

Always

Steps to Reproduce:

1. PXEboot the machine with the above environment

Actual results:

Displayed:
calling acpi_init+0x0/0xe1
ACPI: EC: Look up EC in DSDT

Expected results:

Should successfully boot into the installer environment.

Additional info:

The processor is a VIA C7-M.
I submitted a similar bug request to Red Hat Bugzilla:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=467766

Since Intrepid is in beta, and is to be released in two weeks, I can't
trust that the fixes will propagate to all distros on time.

** Affects: linux-ports-meta (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 1854114] [NEW] My 4K display goes black screen when I updated my NVIDIA driver from 340 to 435

2019-11-26 Thread Amin Sadeghi
Public bug reported:

Here's what happened: I have Ubuntu 19.10 installed + NVIDIA driver 340
+ 4K screen. Everything works file. I upgraded my NVIDIA driver to 435
and then everything is still fine until the login screen. When I enter
my password, the screen goes black. So, I connected my old HD monitor,
rebooted, and it worked! Funny thing is that, when I'm logged in the OS,
if I reconnect my 4K monitor, it works! But if I restart my system, the
problem persists.

I think so, just to add: pretty much every available driver I tried that was
more recent than the v340, the same thing happened. So there must be something
that happens for nvidia drivers 340+.

[Bug 992023] Re: Ubuntu 12.04 USB problem on Msi u270

2012-07-01 Thread Amin Vali
I still have the same issue on my Dell Vostro 1400 laptop. By accident I
found out that running "Startup disk creator" triggers something and USB
drive and CD/DVD get recognized. But this trigger has to be called every
time you insert a new USB drive.

Hope to get an update that solves this. It is very annoying !

I am experiencing this issue too:

$ sudo dmidecode -s system-product-name

Release:11.04

I have tried everything previously discussed in the comments. The only
thing that works reliably is making sure that I boot OS X and then
restart to Linux.

clarify and I'll reopen/adjust the bug status accordingly.

Hello,

I realize it's pretty late now (apologies for that) but do you happen to
have the systemd journal logs from the time of this failure? Could you
reproduce this issue today if you were to attempt another upgrade on a
similar system with up-to-date packages? Also, were there any non-
typical system configuration aspects? Otherwise I'm afraid there's not
much details to go on by to try and debug this.

Thanks.

2024-07-02 Thread Amin Bandali
Hello,

I realize it's pretty late now (apologies for that) but do you happen to
have the systemd journal logs from the time of this failure? Could you
reproduce this issue today if you were to attempt another upgrade on a
similar system with up-to-date packages? Were there any non-typical
system configuration aspects? The logs suggest that the core22 snap
could not be located, which is very strange and unexpected. Without
further details I'm afraid there's not much to go on by to try and debug
this.

Thanks.

Hello, and sorry for the late reply here.

If by any chance you still have access to the system, would you be able

terminal? The dpkg terminal log included with you bug report says it's
not owned by root, and I'm curious as to who the owner is and perhaps
why it happened.

[Bug 2035020] Re: firefox doesn't show the menu entries to move to another workspace

2024-07-03 Thread Amin Bandali
Hello,

This is not really a bug, rather a side-effect of the fact that Firefox
provides its own window decoration and title bar by default, therefore
right-clicking at the top will show you Firefox's own context menu
rather than GNOME's.

One workaround, which Joseph mentioned, is right-clicking twice.

Another approach would be to manually enable the system title bar again.
To do so, right-click on the menu bar at the top and then click on
'Customize Toolbar...'. Then, from the newly opened screen, at the
bottom left, click on the 'Title Bar' checkbox to enable the system
title bar. Now you can right-click on the narrower system title bar at
the top for GNOME menu options like the ones mentioned in your bug
report.

If you'd like Mozilla to reconsider this behaviour, please file a
request on their bug tracker at https://bugzilla.mozilla.org upstream.

Thanks.

Hello, and sorry for the delayed reply here.

Abrupt shutdown definitely sounds like a Firefox bug, and could be due

Are you still able to reproduce this issue on a current release of

with the addresses for some web pages that make your browser crash.

Hello,

Sorry for the slow reply here. As the dpkg terminal log suggests, a
newer snapd and core snap were needed before trying to install the
firefox snap. Did you try that at the time? I believe snapd should have
figured that out itself, and if it didn't at the time, it may be fixed
since then.

Are you able to reproduce this still? If not, we should probably close

Per the dpkg terminal log, there was a 'temporary failure in name

a one-off random failure and the store is normally working fine, I'll

[Bug 2020255] Re: package firefox 112.0.2+build1-0ubuntu0.20.04.1 failed to install/upgrade: new firefox package pre-installation script subprocess returned error exit status 1

2024-07-08 Thread Amin Bandali
Hello, and sorry for the slow reply here.

Per the dpkg terminal log, there was a 'temporary failure in name
resolution issue' (i.e. DNS look up issue) when the system tried to
install the Firefox snap from the snap store. Given that this was likely
a one-off random failure and the store is normally working fine, and DNS
lookup failures are retried a few times before giving up, I'll close
this as Invalid. Otherwise, if you can still reproduce this on a regular
basis please feel free reply and/or reopen the bug, thanks.

Hello, and sorry for the slow reply here.

Based on the attached dpkg terminal logs, it appears that the snapd
version available on your system at the time was rather old and didn't
support the 'mount' command. If you still have access to that system,
you may want to try upgrading snapd to the latest version using 'sudo
apt-get upgrade snapd' and/or 'sudo snap refresh snapd'. Could you by
any chance still reproduce this bug today?

Are you still able to reproduce this issue? I know the Firefox snap has

However, I can't think of any reason why non-snap Firefox like from the

[Bug 2012430] Re: attribute breaks dashes

2024-07-11 Thread Amin Bandali
Hello, and sorry for the slow reply here.

I just tried, and I could reproduce the bug with Firefox 128 deb package
on Ubuntu 20.04 and Firefox 128 snap package on Ubuntu 22.04, but
Firefox 128 snap on Ubuntu 24.04 seems to render it correctly. Would you
be able to verify this?

Since the issue happens on older Ubuntu releases but not the latest one,
I'm inclined to think that it may be an issue with one of the lower
level system libraries that Firefox interacts with. Still, it may be
worth opening a bug report about this on Mozilla's tracker at
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org as well. Would you please do that if not
yet already, and provide the bug number here so I could add it to this
bug's metadata? Thanks.

Per the dpkg terminal log, the script downloading and installing the
Firefox snap encountered an unexpected EOF (end-of-file marker) while
downloading the file from the snap store. Are you (or any of the other
folks who said they're affected by this) able to still reproduce this
issue? It may have been a temporary failure on the snap store side that
may have long since been fixed. If you're still able to reproduce this
issue please add a comment saying so, otherwise there may not be much to
