[Bug 139027] Re: Screens & Graphics not setting correct resolution

I have a similar problem with my T61. I tried to provide the output of
"sudo get-edid|parse-edid", but it says get-edid command not found. It
appears that read-edid package is not available for amd64. I can work
around the problem by choosing a LCD monitor, but then I there are some
problems with the display on a projector.

Ubuntu 10.04 is going to release today. I have installed a fresh copy of
ubuntu lucid release candidate and gwibber works fine in fresh
installation. My advice is that You should do the fresh installation
with of lucid.
If you don't have separate home partition, please let me know, I will
help you erasing it without losing data.

[Bug 495755] [NEW] Authentication Dialogue Freezes on the screen

2009-12-11 Thread Aditya
Public bug reported:

When I try to Mount a windows partition, the system ask for the
authentication password. When i type and press enter, the dialogue box
freezes on the screen. Neither it goes away nor it mounts the drive.

I have to press 'close' button on the box and then the dialogue goes
away and the partition mounts successfully.

This happens almost everyday but not each and every time i try to mount
the partition. Sometimes it goes away and everything works fine.

I hope it might be fixed soon.

[Bug 1241894] Re: Network History no longer works in System Monitor since 13.10

2018-01-25 Thread Aditya
Hi Robert, the problem was with linux kernel and it has been fixed in
kernel v3.14 and later. Since kernel v4.4 HWE is available for Ubuntu
14.04 LTS and all other supported Ubuntu versions come with kernel
v3.14+, the issue no longer persists.

As such I guess the bug should be marked as fixed. There is one caveat -
Ubuntu 12.04 ESM has kernel v3.13 HWE.

[Bug 1245150] Re: 0a12:0001 Bluetooth Dongle (Cambridge Silicon Radio, Ltd) doesn't work after upgrading to Saucy

2013-11-24 Thread Aditya
@Christopher, I once again started the bisecting process, for me the
size of kernnels built are abnormal, however I have installed them.

I had built and installed the 1st bisection. It turned out to be good
and bluetooth was working on it. Then, I built the 2nd bisection. I have
installed the files generated from 2nd bisection, but I can't boot to
it. So, I am stuck in this bisection process and can't proceed further.

Following is the output of `git bisect log`:

[Bug 1007765] Re: brightness adjusting crashes system

2013-08-22 Thread Aditya
May be the community is looking for the solution in the wrong direction.
Looking in /sys/class/backlight/ lists 3 folders on my Dell inspiron 7520.
One of the folders is intel_backlight .

Manually doing
root@Sirius:~# echo 2000 > /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness
works.

This means that the problem is somewhere in the X configuration.

>From a thread here https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=29273
I created an entry in xorg.conf

Section "Device"
Option "Backlight" "intel_backlight"
Identifier "Card0"
Driver "intel"
BusID "PCI:0:2:0"
EndSection

I created this by using X -c
and copying only relevant section to /etc/X11/xorg.conf

The controls are working fine now. I *do not* have acpi_backlight=vendor .
I just have acpi_osi=Linux , and I am not very sure if it is needed at all.

[Bug 1007765] Re: brightness adjusting crashes system

2013-08-23 Thread Aditya
Thanks Marwan for the detailed description of the bug.
I just posted this as a fix for the users who were unable to change brightness,
and I had no idea how deep the roots of this bug are.

In my case, both acpi_video0 and acpi_video1 do not work, i.e. the brightness
does not change and the system is functional.
When I use acpi_backlight=vendor things are different even if I disable
nmi_watchdog .

Are there any tests that I run?

2013-08-23 Thread Aditya
Hi,
by different I mean that the system freezes in both the situations, with
nmi_watchdog enabled and disabled, and this happens as soon as I soon as I
change the brightness levels, and this is the reason I actually reached this
bug report.

Thanks,

I did this, as a result, the system is responsive for 10 - 15 seconds
after brightness change.
I am able to change brightness multiple times within this window. After
this the system freezes.

[Bug 1594740] Re: Supervisor not enabled or started in Ubuntu 16.04 after installation

2017-03-10 Thread Aditya
@Alex and everyone affected by the bug. Peter has given a very nice
detailed bug report with a known workaround.

Running the following once would ensure that supervisor always come up
after a reboot:

sudo systemctl enable supervisor

The above command is required to be run only once. So, get into a habit
of running this command whenever you install Ubuntu 16.04 until the bug
is fixed.

And, running the following command would bring supervisor up during the
current boot:

sudo systemctl start supervisor

Regards,
Aditya

[Bug 1594740] Re: Supervisor not enabled or started in Ubuntu 16.04 after installation

2016-07-23 Thread Aditya
Please fix this regression. I just used Ubuntu 16.04, now that the first
point release is out, for one of my new projects and was immediately
impacted by this bug. Took almost an hour for me to figure out the
problem since I didn't have to configure this on earlier releases. More
people would become aware of this issue now since 16.04.1 is out.

[Bug 1309801] Re: [xubuntu] chromium redraw issue after switching workspaces

2015-05-15 Thread Aditya
The problem seems to be in the graphics driver.

For those having Intel® HD Graphics 4000, check whether this xorg.conf
solves the problem:

$ cat /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.conf
Section "Device"
   Identifier "Intel Graphics"
   Driver "intel"
   Option "AccelMethod" "UXA"
EndSection

If it doesn't also install the kernel and X stack of Utopic.
See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/LTSEnablementStack
That should definitely solve the problem.

[Bug 1221995] Re: Bluetooth Dongle (Cambridge Silicon Radio, Ltd) doesnt work on ubuntu 13.10

2013-10-26 Thread Aditya
I am also affected by this bug after upgrading to Saucy. I am following
the instructions mentioned at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/KernelBisection.

I have downloaded and installed the kernals from
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/saucy/+source/linux

- 3.9.0-7.15 works for me
- 3.10.0-0.6 doesn't work

So, the issue is between these two releases. For further commit
bisecting, I have downloaded the git repository of `ubuntu-saucy` by
running:

$ git clone git://kernel.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ubuntu-saucy.git`

To see how many commits are there in between, I run the following
command:

$ git log --oneline Ubuntu-3.9.0-7.15..Ubuntu-3.10.0-0.6 | wc

Its output is:

  14802 117434 922801

Please, help me further. Are there 14802 commits?

[Bug 1245150] [NEW] Bluetooth Dongle (Cambridge Silicon Radio, Ltd) doesn't work after upgrading to Saucy

2013-10-27 Thread Aditya
Public bug reported:

I am facing an almost identical bug as mentioned in LP Bug #1221995.

After upgrading to Saucy, the bluetooth-indicator was no longer present
in the taskbar. If I go to System Settings >> Bluetooth; it shows as
"Bluetooth is disabled" and toggling the On|Off Switch doesn't enable
it.

http://i.stack.imgur.com/vwfEo.png

(I have installed the Blueman Device Manager to solve this issue and its
bluetooth indicator is shown on the taskbar, but it doesn't function.
However, toggling the On|Off switch in System Settings >> Bluetooth,
grays out the icon of Blueman indicator in the taskbar.)

I have tried running the Live USB of both Ubuntu 13.10 and Lubuntu 13.10
- bluetooth doesn't work in live environment as well.

[Bug 1245150] Re: 0a12:0001 Bluetooth Dongle (Cambridge Silicon Radio, Ltd) doesn't work after upgrading to Saucy

2013-10-27 Thread Aditya
Christopher,

The linked article mentions the command to run as:

$ git bisect start

In my case, Bad is `Ubuntu-3.10.0-0.6`; and Good is `Ubuntu-3.9.0-7.15`

So, I think I am supposed to run:

$ git bisect start Ubuntu-3.10.0-0.6 Ubuntu-3.9.0-7.15

Please confirm the same. Moreover, I think I would have to build the
kernals myself which would be time-consuming on my machine. Is it
somehow possible to use Launchpad PPA's service to download the built
kernals and install them?

This is the first time I am attempting something like this, so please
forgive my ignorance about it.

Cheers :-)

[Bug 1245150] Re: 0a12:0001 Bluetooth Dongle (Cambridge Silicon Radio, Ltd) doesn't work after upgrading to Saucy

2013-10-27 Thread Aditya
Christopher, while trying to bisect my debian and debian.master folders
disappeared because I am commit bisecting Ubuntu kernel versions across
non-linear tags (I don't know what that means :-)) as per this
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/KernelBisection
#Commit_bisecting_Ubuntu_kernel_versions_across_non-linear_tags

So, I would have to bisect the upstream kernal versions.. I am first of
all going to do KernalBisection by downloading and installing the
mainline kernals from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/

Thereafter, I would need to do CommitBisection. I am reading up on it,
but let me know would I have to download the whole MEGABYTES of another
Git repository? If so, which one - I haven't found yet...

Thanks for your support :-)

[Bug 1245150] Re: 0a12:0001 Bluetooth Dongle (Cambridge Silicon Radio, Ltd) doesn't work after upgrading to Saucy

2013-10-27 Thread Aditya
I have downloaded and installed v3.9.11-saucy, v3.10-rc1-saucy and
v3.10-rc2-saucy from the mainline build repository:
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/

Out of this:
- v3.9.11-saucy works well
- v3.10-rc1-saucy did seem to install but doesn't boot for me
- v3.10-rc2-saucy doesn't work

So, the problem is between v3.9.11-saucy and v3.10-rc2-saucy in the
mainline builds.

v3.9.11-saucy is GOOD
v3.10-rc2-saucy is BAD

(BTW, both these mainline builds broke my Network connection. I hope
that doesn't affect us. My network connection was and is fine in all the
other kernals.)

Please guide me through the next step.

[Bug 1245150] Re: 0a12:0001 Bluetooth Dongle (Cambridge Silicon Radio, Ltd) doesn't work after upgrading to Saucy

2013-10-28 Thread Aditya
Hi Christopher,

I made an attempt to compile the mainline kernel. It took more than 90
minutes on my machine to compile the packages for i386. However, there
are a few anomalies. It created 4 .deb packages for me:

- linux-firmware-image_3.9.0-adi01-1_i386.deb (1.1 MB)
- linux-headers-3.9.0-adi01_3.9.0-adi01-1_i386.deb (8.4 MB)
- linux-image-3.9.0-adi01_3.9.0-adi01-1_i386.deb (711.9 MB)
- linux-libc-dev_3.9.0-adi01-1_i386.deb (941.8 kB)

I don't know why it compiled v3.9.0 (maybe I made some mistake
somewhere). Moreover, the size of linux-image is too huge in my opinion.
Should I attempt to install these .deb packages? Or, there is something
wrong with them because of its huge size. (Generally the size of update
for ubuntu-kernal happens to be ~60 MB).

[Bug 1245581] [NEW] LiveCD does not ask whether I want to "Try Xubuntu" or "Install Xubuntu"

2013-10-28 Thread Aditya
Public bug reported:

What happened: When I start the Xubuntu 13.10 i386 LiveCD (downloaded using
torrent at releases.ubuntu.com) I directly land into the desktop screen of Xfce.

[Bug 1245585] [NEW] LiveCD: wrong language selected by default on login screen

2013-10-28 Thread Aditya
Public bug reported:

[Bug 1245585] Re: LiveCD: wrong language selected by default on login screen

2013-10-29 Thread Aditya
Gunnar, no, obviously not. That is whole point of reporting this bug.
Otherwise why would I file this bug?

The login screen selected the wrong language automatically by default.

If the user does not specify preference to any language, why should the
LiveCD present its interface in "Bangla - Bangladesh" language instead
of English?

[Bug 1245150] Re: 0a12:0001 Bluetooth Dongle (Cambridge Silicon Radio, Ltd) doesn't work after upgrading to Saucy

2013-10-30 Thread Aditya
Chistopher, I am not feeling comfortable installing that right now. I
have my exams during the next three weeks and I can't risk an unstable
system till that time. CommitBisection would also requrie me to build
and install the kernel atleast 13 times. So, I would get back to this
bug after 21st November and restart the Commit Bisection process at that
time.

Hope you would help me then and thanks for your patience.

[Bug 1245150] Re: 0a12:0001 Bluetooth Dongle (Cambridge Silicon Radio, Ltd) doesn't work after upgrading to Saucy

2013-12-11 Thread Aditya
I have not yet given up hope.. I am trying to do the bisection, but
everytime I get into the situation of not being able to boot the kernel.
For someone who hasn't done anything like this before; building the
kernels and bisecting it to get hold of the bad commit is a pretty
daunting task indeed. Any it takes upwards to 2.5hours to build the
kernel on my system.

So, I am still doing the bisection as and when possible and would report
things in due course.

However, is it possible to provide more parameters to `git bisect start`
in order to cut down the number of bisections required in this case; as
mentioned over here:

https://www.kernel.org/pub/software/scm/git/docs/git-
bisect.html#_cutting_down_bisection_by_giving_more_parameters_to_bisect_start

[Bug 1488426] Re: High CPU usage of kworker/ksoftirqd

2015-11-30 Thread Aditya
Hi AceLan,

I am also affected by this issue and using the patched kernel available
at http://people.canonical.com/~acelan/lp1475248/ solved the issue for
me.

Now the update manager gives me an upgrade for the three linux packages.
Can I install them? Please guide me how do I remain updated with latest
security fixes while still having the patch applied to the kernel?

I have installed 14.04.3 (with vivid HWE).

Regards,
Aditya

[Bug 1488426] Re: High CPU usage of kworker/ksoftirqd

2015-12-08 Thread Aditya
The above working patch has been merged in linux-4.1.y branch of linux-
stable repository as can been seen here:
https://git.kernel.org/cgit/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux-
stable.git/log/?qt=grep&q=mmc%3A+core%3A+Enable+runtime+PM+management+of+host+devices&h=linux-4.1.y

Since Ubuntu 15.10 comes with Kernel version 4.2, I guess using Ubuntu
15.10 would fix the issue. I would wait for 14.04.4 to come out in Feb
2016 with updated kernel as depicted here:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/LTSEnablementStack#Kernel.2BAC8-Support.A14.04.x_Ubuntu_Kernel_Support

And then upgrade to Ubuntu 16.04 LTS.

The status of the bug should be changed. I am not doing it myself, since
I am a bit unexperienced and not sure if bugs that are fixed during
regular updates, how are they tagged in the Status field.

[Bug 1327957] [NEW] /usr/lib/pm-utils/power.d/wireless:23: /sys/class/net/wlan0/device/enable: No such file or directory

2014-06-09 Thread Aditya
Public bug reported:

In 14.04, there is a bug in /usr/lib/pm-utils/power.d/wireless script at
line 23. It should "enabled" at the end of path
/sys/class/net/$1/device/enable.

I always get an ENOENT error in /var/log/pm-powersave.log when that hook
runs, inspite of active wlan0.

Running hook /usr/lib/pm-utils/power.d/wireless false:
cat: /sys/class/net/wlan0/device/enable: No such file or directory
/usr/lib/pm-utils/power.d/wireless false: success.

This bug prevents Wi-Fi power saving feature from being enabled when a
laptop is running on battery power!

[Bug 1314971] Re: Potential Security Issue - Having multiple users logins the administrator account without asking for password

2014-06-29 Thread Aditya
@Andrew

I don't quite remember if I had installed wth automatic login or not;
but I had changed that setting a couple of times (twice/thrice) from
Systems Settings (Gnome Control Panel >> User Accounts).

And I am using Ubuntu GNOME 14.04 fresh install.

I have two user accounts setup:

 1. Aditya (Administrator)
 2. Mohit (Standard User)

Both the accounts have passwords on them and "Automatic Login" is off
  for both of them.

When I reboot, two cases happen:

  1. If I don't select which user account I want to login (Administrator
account is autoselected initially), GNOME waits for about ~5 secs and
then starts displaying a progress bar around the Adminstrator Account
(Aditya) indicating that this account would login when it reaches 100%
(it takes about 10 secs for progress bar to finish). Once the progress
bar finished, it logs the Administrator without asking for user password
and anyone can use the account without knowing the password at all.

  2. Even when I select the Standard Account (Mohit) (but don't press
return/enter - ie; I don't reach the password screen for Mohit) then
GNOME waits for about ~5 secs and thereafter selects the Administrator
Account (Aditya) by itself and repeats case 1 mentioned above.

However, since I have the "Online Accounts" setup, it nags me a couple
of times initially after login to enter the password, but I can just
press Escape and don't need to enter the password. (The Online Accounts
feature don't work as expected since I don't provide the password to
  it).

Screenshot of it nagging me to provide password for Online Accounts:

[Bug 1314971] Re: Potential Security Issue - Having multiple users logins the administrator account without asking for password

2014-05-01 Thread Aditya
Hi Seth Arnold,

That does fix the issue. But shouldn't this default behavior change. I
never touched that file myself (at least not intentionally). I had
once/twice enabled automatic login for accounts (using System Settings >
User Accounts), but disabled it afterwards. Disabling it should have
made necessary changes to those files. Can you please try that? I would
also try to enable automatic login once again and then disable it to see
if this problem pops up once again.

Thanks for the help.

[Bug 1221995] Re: 0a12:0001 Bluetooth Dongle (Cambridge Silicon Radio, Ltd) doesn't work with 3.11 or 3.13 kernels

2014-08-03 Thread Aditya

I have added your ppa but when I run `sudo apt update && sudo apt
upgrade` it only offers me to upgrade `linux-libc-dev` package and
nothing else. Is that good? I suppose it should offer me to update 4-5
linux related packages from your repository and have I haven't installed
the update.

Right now I am running the mainline kernel version 3.14.15.

[Bug 1221995] Re: 0a12:0001 Bluetooth Dongle (Cambridge Silicon Radio, Ltd) doesn't work with 3.11 or 3.13 kernels

2014-08-05 Thread Aditya
@Rafael,

I manually installed the `linux-image-3.13.0-33-generic` package, but it
doesn't seem to solve the problem. Booting to this kernel says "No
bluetooth adapters found" (as against "Bluetooth is diabled" in
v3.13.0-32) although I have the adapter connected.

Moreover, the kernel creates additional problems. It doesn't recognize
my mouse and the display is stretched on the monitor with lower
resolution.

In short, the package doesn't work. Let me know if you need any
assistance.

[Bug 1292509] [NEW] Missing statistics for `tx_bytes`, `tx_packets`, `rx_bytes` and `rx_packets` since Ubuntu 13.10

2014-03-14 Thread Aditya
Public bug reported:

I am using Ubuntu 13.10 and have an Ethernet connection to connect to
the Internet.

If I set my ISP username and password in router-cum-modem (ADSL) itself
(i.e.; I get connected to internet automatically by just powering on my
router); I don't get the information about `tx_bytes`, `tx_packets`,
`rx_bytes` and `rx_packets` anymore.

If I don't put the username and password in router; and instead use
`sudo pppoeconf` to configure my connection by providing my ISP username
and password; I get the information about `tx_bytes`, `tx_packets`,
`rx_bytes` and `rx_packets` as expected.

It is probably because of this bug, that Gnome System Monitor doesn't
update Network History as reported earlier:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-system-
monitor/+bug/1241894
