[Bug 495755] [NEW] Authentication Dialogue Freezes on the screen
Public bug reported: When I try to Mount a windows partition, the system ask for the authentication password. When i type and press enter, the dialogue box freezes on the screen. Neither it goes away nor it mounts the drive. I have to press 'close' button on the box and then the dialogue goes away and the partition mounts successfully. This happens almost everyday but not each and every time i try to mount the partition. Sometimes it goes away and everything works fine. I hope it might be fixed soon. [Bug 1241894] Re: Network History no longer works in System Monitor since 13.10
Hi Robert, the problem was with linux kernel and it has been fixed in kernel v3.14 and later. Since kernel v4.4 HWE is available for Ubuntu 14.04 LTS and all other supported Ubuntu versions come with kernel v3.14+, the issue no longer persists. [Bug 1007765] Re: brightness adjusting crashes system
May be the community is looking for the solution in the wrong direction. Looking in /sys/class/backlight/ lists 3 folders on my Dell inspiron 7520. One of the folders is intel_backlight . Manually doing root@Sirius:~# echo 2000 > /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness works. Thanks Marwan for the detailed description of the bug. I just posted this as a fix for the users who were unable to change brightness, and I had no idea how deep the roots of this bug are. Christopher, The linked article mentions the command to run as: $ git bisect start In my case, Bad is `Ubuntu-3.10.0-0.6`; and Good is `Ubuntu-3.9.0-7.15` So, I think I am supposed to run: $ git bisect start Ubuntu-3.10.0-0.6 Ubuntu-3.9.0-7.15 Please confirm the same. [Bug 1245150] Re: 0a12:0001 Bluetooth Dongle (Cambridge Silicon Radio, Ltd) doesn't work after upgrading to Saucy
Christopher, while trying to bisect my debian and debian.master folders disappeared because I am commit bisecting Ubuntu kernel versions across non-linear tags (I don't know what that means :-)) as per this https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/KernelBisection #Commit_bisecting_Ubuntu_kernel_versions_across_non-linear_tags So, I would have to bisect the upstream kernal versions.. I am first of all going to do KernalBisection by downloading and installing the mainline kernals from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/ Thereafter, I would need to do CommitBisection. I am reading up on it, but let me know would I have to download the whole MEGABYTES of another Git repository? If so, which one - I haven't found yet... [Bug 1245150] Re: 0a12:0001 Bluetooth Dongle (Cambridge Silicon Radio, Ltd) doesn't work after upgrading to Saucy
I have downloaded and installed v3.9.11-saucy, v3.10-rc1-saucy and v3.10-rc2-saucy from the mainline build repository: http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/ Out of this: - v3.9.11-saucy works well - v3.10-rc1-saucy did seem to install but doesn't boot for me - v3.10-rc2-saucy doesn't work So, the problem is between v3.9.11-saucy and v3.10-rc2-saucy in the mainline builds. v3.9.11-saucy is GOOD v3.10-rc2-saucy is BAD (BTW, both these mainline builds broke my Network connection. [Bug 1245150] Re: 0a12:0001 Bluetooth Dongle (Cambridge Silicon Radio, Ltd) doesn't work after upgrading to Saucy
Hi Christopher, I made an attempt to compile the mainline kernel. It took more than 90 minutes on my machine to compile the packages for i386. However, there are a few anomalies. It created 4 .deb packages for me: - linux-firmware-image_3.9.0-adi01-1_i386.deb (1.1 MB) - linux-headers-3.9.0-adi01_3.9.0-adi01-1_i386.deb (8.4 MB) - linux-image-3.9.0-adi01_3.9.0-adi01-1_i386.deb (711.9 MB) - linux-libc-dev_3.9.0-adi01-1_i386.deb (941.8 kB) I don't know why it compiled v3.9.0 (maybe I made some mistake somewhere). Moreover, the size of linux-image is too huge in my opinion. Should I attempt to install these .deb packages? Or, there is something wrong with them because of its huge size. (Generally the size of update for ubuntu-kernal happens to be ~60 MB). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1245150 Title: 0a12:0001 Bluetooth Dongle (Cambridge Silicon Radio, Ltd) doesn't work after upgrading to Saucy To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1245150/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1245150] Re: 0a12:0001 Bluetooth Dongle (Cambridge Silicon Radio, Ltd) doesn't work after upgrading to Saucy
I have not yet given up hope.. I am trying to do the bisection, but everytime I get into the situation of not being able to boot the kernel. For someone who hasn't done anything like this before; building the kernels and bisecting it to get hold of the bad commit is a pretty daunting task indeed. Any it takes upwards to 2.5hours to build the kernel on my system. So, I am still doing the bisection as and when possible and would report things in due course. However, is it possible to provide more parameters to `git bisect start` in order to cut down the number of bisections required in this case; as mentioned over here: https://www.kernel.org/pub/software/scm/git/docs/git- bisect.html#_cutting_down_bisection_by_giving_more_parameters_to_bisect_start -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1245150 Title: 0a12:0001 Bluetooth Dongle (Cambridge Silicon Radio, Ltd) doesn't work after upgrading to Saucy To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1245150/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Hi AceLan, I am also affected by this issue and using the patched kernel available at http://people.canonical.com/~acelan/lp1475248/ solved the issue for me. Now the update manager gives me an upgrade for the three linux packages. Can I install them? [Bug 1488426] Re: High CPU usage of kworker/ksoftirqd
The above working patch has been merged in linux-4.1.y branch of linux- stable repository as can been seen here: https://git.kernel.org/cgit/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux- stable.git/log/?qt=grep&q=mmc%3A+core%3A+Enable+runtime+PM+management+of+host+devices&h=linux-4.1.y Since Ubuntu 15.10 comes with Kernel version 4.2, I guess using Ubuntu 15.10 would fix the issue. [Bug 1221995] Re: 0a12:0001 Bluetooth Dongle (Cambridge Silicon Radio, Ltd) doesn't work with 3.11 or 3.13 kernels
@Rafael, I manually installed the `linux-image-3.13.0-33-generic` package, but it doesn't seem to solve the problem. Booting to this kernel says "No bluetooth adapters found" (as against "Bluetooth is diabled" in v3.13.0-32) although I have the adapter connected. Moreover, the kernel creates additional problems. It doesn't recognize my mouse and the display is stretched on the monitor with lower resolution. In short, the package doesn't work. Let me know if you need any assistance. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1221995 Title: 0a12:0001 Bluetooth Dongle (Cambridge Silicon Radio, Ltd) doesn't work with 3.11 or 3.13 kernels To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1221995/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1292509] [NEW] Missing statistics for `tx_bytes`, `tx_packets`, `rx_bytes` and `rx_packets` since Ubuntu 13.10
Public bug reported: I am using Ubuntu 13.10 and have an Ethernet connection to connect to the Internet. If I set my ISP username and password in router-cum-modem (ADSL) itself (i.e.; I get connected to internet automatically by just powering on my router); I don't get the information about `tx_bytes`, `tx_packets`, `rx_bytes` and `rx_packets` anymore. If I don't put the username and password in router; and instead use `sudo pppoeconf` to configure my connection by providing my ISP username and password; I get the information about `tx_bytes`, `tx_packets`, `rx_bytes` and `rx_packets` as expected. It is probably because of this bug, that Gnome System Monitor doesn't update Network History as reported earlier: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-system- monitor/+bug/1241894 === I have run the following commands on Ubuntu 13.10 installed on my system as per the answers given to this question: http://serverfault.com/questions/533513/how-to-get-tx-rx-bytes-without- ifconfig $ uname -a Linux aditya-desktop 3.11.0-18-generic #32-Ubuntu SMP Tue Feb 18 21:13:28 UTC 2014 i686 athlon i686 GNU/Linux $ ifconfig eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 94:de:80:34:47:7b inet addr:192.168.1.8 Bcast:192.168.1.255 Mask:255.255.255.0 inet6 addr: fe80::96de:80ff:fe34:477b/64 Scope:Link UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1 RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000 RX bytes:0 (0.0 B) TX bytes:0 (0.0 B) Interrupt:18 loLink encap:Local Loopback inet addr:127.0.0.1 Mask:255.0.0.0 inet6 addr: ::1/128 Scope:Host UP LOOPBACK RUNNING MTU:65536 Metric:1 RX packets:49 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:49 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:0 RX bytes:4819 (4.8 KB) TX bytes:4819 (4.8 KB) $ route -n Kernel IP routing table Destination Gateway Genmask Flags Metric RefUse Iface 0.0.0.0 192.168.1.1 0.0.0.0 UG0 00 eth0 192.168.1.0 0.0.0.0 255.255.255.0 U 1 00 eth0 $ cat /proc/net/dev Inter-| Receive| Transmit face |bytespackets errs drop fifo frame compressed multicast|bytes packets errs drop fifo colls carrier compressed lo: 1900701601000 0 0 0 190070 1601000 0 0 0 eth0: 0 0000 0 0 00 0000 0 0 0 $ netstat -i Kernel Interface table Iface MTU Met RX-OK RX-ERR RX-DRP RX-OVRTX-OK TX-ERR TX-DRP TX-OVR Flg eth0 1500 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 BMRU lo65536 0 1601 0 0 0 1601 0 0 0 LRU $ ip -s link 1: lo: mtu 65536 qdisc noqueue state UNKNOWN mode DEFAULT link/loopback 00:00:00:00:00:00 brd 00:00:00:00:00:00 RX: bytes packets errors dropped overrun mcast 190070 1601 0 0 0 0 TX: bytes packets errors dropped carrier collsns 190070 1601 0 0 0 0 2: eth0: mtu 1500 qdisc pfifo_fast state UP mode DEFAULT qlen 1000 link/ether 94:de:80:34:47:7b brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff RX: bytes packets errors dropped overrun mcast 0 00 0 0 0 TX: bytes packets errors dropped carrier collsns 0 00 0 0 0 $ cat /sys/class/net/eth0/statistics/rx_bytes 0 $ cat /sys/class/net/eth0/statistics/rx_packets 0 $ cat /sys/class/net/eth0/statistics/tx_bytes 0 $ cat /sys/class/net/eth0/statistics/tx_packets 0 === It is working upto Ubuntu 12.04.3 and Ubuntu 13.04.
