I can confirm this bug. I did a clean edgy install couple of weeks ago. To console it prints: $ sudo update-manager warning: could not initiate dbus And when I click install packages: could not send the dbus Inhibit signal: Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken. [Bug 72143] please revert startup sounds
Public bug reported: I hope this is the right package to report this on. The startup sounds in Edgy are nowhere near as nice as the ones we had in previous releases. I don't want to disrespect the author, who I think did a good job considering it was (as I understand it) a community contribution, but the old sounds were much more relaxing, professional and above all *memorable*. Also, they didn't have any corny symbals in them. Can we have them back? I think keeping the startup sound consistent will improve the marketing of Ubuntu as an operating system - people will associate it with the sound, just as they do with Windows. I remember the interview with Mark that was shown on English TV focused on the (old) startup sound as something that users might be hearing more and more in place of the annoying Windows startup sound. ** Affects: ubuntu-artwork (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- please revert startup sounds https://launchpad.net/bugs/72143 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Public bug reported: Binary package hint: larswm Larswm default configuration opens to a desktop that does not work. Even logging out without rebooting is difficult. To reproduce on 6.06 LTS Dapper 1) $ sudo apt-get install larswm 2) MainMenu: Quit: Switch User 3) (On login screen): Session: larswm. Type username and password normally. What should happen: You should get a usable desktop. Starting programs should be easy. There should be a way of logging out. Window placement should work as adverticed. What actually happens (the bug): Blank (blue) screen, with gray status line on the bottom. Only thing that works is changing workspace by rolling wheel on the status line, but even that's not obvious. There seems to be no way to start programs. Mouse buttons do nothing. [Bug 72152] ifupdown script fails to terminate wpasupplicant
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: wpasupplicant Hi, I am using wpasupplicant in the roaming mode as described in README.modes. Taking the interface up works (manual method as described). But then, when taking down the interface, the script fails to terminate the wpasupplicant and the wpa_cli. Thus, after taking down the interface, those deamons keep running. The next time the interface is taken up, the up script detects a running daemon and again does nothing, i.e. fails. The reason might be that the script checks for the presence of a running wpa_cli in a very early stage and exits if one exist, even in the if- down phase. When the script immediately terminates if a wpa_cli is running, it obviously does not terminate the daemon. regards ** Affects: wpasupplicant (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- ifupdown script fails to terminate wpasupplicant https://launchpad.net/bugs/72152 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 72156] The file /usr/share/doc-base/glibc-manual exists in glibc-doc
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: glibc-doc-reference If you try to install glibc-doc-reference while glibc-doc is already installed, you get a dpkg error stating that the /usr/share/doc-base /glibc-manual file already exists in the glibc-doc package. The way around it for people right now is: 1. Rename the /usr/share/doc-base/glibc-manual to /usr/share/doc-base /glibc-manual-original 2. Run dpkg -i --force-overwrite /var/cache/apt/archives/glibc-doc- reference*.deb 3. Rename the new /usr/share/doc-base/glibc-manual to /usr/share/doc- base/glibc-manual-reference 4. Rename the /usr/share/doc-base/glibc-manual-original to /usr/share /doc-base/glibc-manual It would be nice if this minor bug was fixed in the debs themselves. By the way, are you sure that it is an jmicron controller causing all the problems, cause this bug has been solved for some time now Andreas Corneliussen 2006/11/17, amar <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>: > > i have intel 101GGC MOTHERBOARD & SEAGATE SATA HARDDISK. > How can i install linux on it as it need a sata cotroller. > can anyone provide me the link to download the controller. > > plZ > > -- > JMicron PATA/SATA Controller does not work > https://launchpad.net/bugs/57502 > -- JMicron PATA/SATA Controller does not work https://launchpad.net/bugs/57502 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 22119] Re: [network-admin] Dial out does not work
The quick and dirty way to fix things for Edgy: Go to file /usr/share /system-tools-backends-2.0/scripts/Network/Ifaces.pm, line 3137 (subroutine get_interface_replace_table, section "debian-3.0") and remove 'W' from between %external_line% and %phone_number%. -- [network-admin] Dial out does not work https://launchpad.net/bugs/22119 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 54246] Re: DMRAID stopped to work in kernels > 2.6.15
I have tried both rc13-0ubuntu1 and rc13-0ubuntu2 and neither seems to be populating /dev/mapper for me on my SI 3112 fakeraid adapter. If I boot with break=mount (or wait until I'm dumped into a busybox shell), I can see that dmraid is picking up my raid set with dmraid -tay, but dmraid -ay does not populate /dev/mapper, hence I can't boot. -- DMRAID stopped to work in kernels > 2.6.15 https://launchpad.net/bugs/54246 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 72044] Re: firefox crash using xubuntu-desktop
It worked fine between those crashes, even with plugins installed and even on flashsites. I can say this for kubuntu and ubuntu. Let me explain it more detailed: I started with dapper working only in ubuntu desktop after that i upgraded to edgy still ubuntu an run into the firefox flash-problem. searched and found https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+ticket/1817 and fixed it and even installed flash V 9. Then i desided to try out xubuntu and kubuntu and installed both and then the first crash occured: It was the first time I started firefox after a restart and installing xubuntu-desktop and kubuntu-desktop and was choosing xubuntu for the session >From there on I only used kubuntu. Afer a few updates and installations I ran >into the above xorg.conf problem again but now under ubuntu. I fixed it again and it worked again. Well, then I loged into xubuntu and then the second crash occured: After the first crash, I was only using kubuntu-desktop an now after just loging in I got the following crash file without even starting anything On my opinion those crashes have nothing to do with flash. At least the second crash startet directly after login in and without starting firefox at all. I hope this helped -- firefox crash using xubuntu-desktop https://launchpad.net/bugs/72044 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Right. Kopete 0.12.3 doesn't send messages on if "Send message" is set to none. I was told that you can use shift+ to create multi-line messages. Would this solve your problem? [Bug 72052] Re: MOTU SRU proposal
Reinhard, since I was curious as well, I've been looking at the code yesterday: The target string is most of the time a char[6] (the function is called in several places, I'm not sure if I've found all of them). Nonetheless I'd prefer a patch by upstream as well.
