[Bug 50464] Re: Printing bug with HPLIP + Openoffice
Version of HPLIP is 1.6.6a from hplip.sf.net. I have compiled it without problems. This problem happens also with the Ubuntu shipped version of HPLIP. <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> told me that it is something like a system issue. I will try my DeskJet 6840 on a new computer soon, and then I will see. I would be glad if somebody who has a DeskJet 6840 could confirm this bug or not. -- Printing bug with HPLIP + Openoffice https://launchpad.net/bugs/50464 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I realise you see no need for XPM manipulation with PHP, but I've used it before, and I know others have as well. [Bug 54116] Edgy Installer: Partitioning Tool opens confirmation box in background
Public bug reported: When installing Edgy from the Knot1 CD (live CD installer) there comes the moment when the hard drive must be partitioned. Choosing to edit the partition table manually (sorry, I don't know how this option is exactly called in the English version) opens up a new dialogue allowing to change partitions in a Partition Magic like style. When confirming the changes a new box opens saying something like "are you sure you want to ...". However, this box opens behind the partitioning window so that it cannot be seen. At the first time I waited for about 20 minutes as I thought realising the changes was already in progress. Shutting down the - in my eyes - crashed application showed me that there was a box I that wants to be clicked. I retried and got the same procedure again; but this time I knew that the box was there, so it could not stop me ;-) ** Affects: Ubuntu Importance: Untriaged Status: Unconfirmed -- Edgy Installer: Partitioning Tool opens confirmation box in background https://launchpad.net/bugs/54116 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 54117] Ubuntu hangs when configuring Gigabyte wireless card GN-WP01GS
Public bug reported: Configuring network card via network-admin results in system hang on Ubuntu Dapper. Step to reproduce: 1. Run network-admin 2. Choose GN-WP01GS wireless card 3. Click Properties 4. Enter settings (essid, wep-key, dhpc etc.) 5. Click Ok System hangs after clicking Ok. After booting iwconfig process takes ~100% CPU - killing or renicing process for some reason wasn't possible. To fix it wireless card must be removed from PC, then related entries deleted from /etc/network/interfaces after booting. Workaround and more info is present here http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=132980&highlight=ralink (I think this is solution for any RT2561 based card). Basically (for Dapper) it involves downloading firmware, config file, fetching config file with proper data (essid, wep-key...) and than enabling network interface using ifconfig or dhclient. Sometimes additional steps must be performed like adding default gateway using route. Mentioned above workaround isn't 100% stable either. System still will hang if: - config data isn't valid (e.g incorrect wep-key) - access point settings are changed There is also a (random) chance that system will hang when running ifconfig/dhclient (with proper data) or few second after that. ** Affects: Ubuntu Importance: Untriaged Status: Unconfirmed -- Ubuntu hangs when configuring Gigabyte wireless card GN-WP01GS https://launchpad.net/bugs/54117 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 54119] Edgy Installer: Partitioning Tool cannot enlarge logical ntfs partitions to the left
Public bug reported: When setting up the partition tables manually during installation (liveCD installer) you can work with a Partition Magic like tool. In my case I had two ext3 partitions (both primary) followed by a swap partition (also primary) and a W95 Ext'd (LBA). This one contained free space at the beginning followed by a ntfs partition. I wanted to move the ntfs partition to the beginning and create another ext3 partition behind it. The most simple way to do so, is IMHO to just move the partition - impossible! Then I wanted to resize the ntfs partition so that it covers the entire Ext'd area - also impossible. So my only option would have been to delete the ntfs partition and re-create it at the right place; however, this was no real option as the data would have been lost. So I just created the ext3 partition in the empty space. ** Affects: Ubuntu Importance: Untriaged Status: Unconfirmed -- Edgy Installer: Partitioning Tool cannot enlarge logical ntfs partitions to the left https://launchpad.net/bugs/54119 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I tried to uninstall the printer and now I cannot install printers anymore. The gnome cups manager does not offer any printer drivers. The cups web interface does not work either. First it reported Error: Unknown or Error: Bad request when adding (and then also when listing) printers. Removing printers.conf did not help. When it was recreated the errors appeared again. Removing and reinstalling all of cups (except the stuff that is held by lsb), foomatic, and hp* did not help either. It just produces blank page on adding a printer, and the list stays empty. I guess the next thing to try is installing Debain packages or using the source. So much for user friendly distros. Just to make sure I tried memtest, and it did not find any errors. [Bug 54122] install CD does not boot on tray loading rev-a imac 233MHz
Public bug reported: I have tried this using anything from Ubuntu Breezy to Dapper Drake, and several "flights" in between; unfortunately same problem all the time. Both CD-R made on the lowest speed that my current system support (10x) and factoru made dapper install CD:s. Since this baby is a mac using a G3 Power PC, I am using a PPC edition of UBUNTU, no doubt about that. 1. put CD in tray 2. push C key and start system 3. the mac then tries to load something from the CD and continues to spin the drive for 20-30 seconds after that the system stops, no text, no image - just a blank screen. If I instead chose to boot into Open Firmware and tries to boot from the CD manually, the system dies the same way as when using the C-key. I did not report this problem at first because I thought that this 8-9 year old cd-drive is not so compatible with modern CD-R media which is a common problem with older drives. But now Canonical has been as kind as to provide me with factory made CD:s which unfortunately shows the same problem. With the old factory made Warty CD:s the system started nicely, but something went wrong during the installation and the system died on the first boot from the hard disk. But at that time at least the CD did boot nicely into the setup program. Unfortunately, my four year old son had a go on the old CD which is no longer operational so I can not use that if you want me to test something with that one. I can download a warty .iso if you want me to. Please do not hesitate to ask me any questions or make me suggestions on how to solve this problem. I am also willing to try different procedures and softwares and report back if that can help anyone better figure out how to fix this problem. yes, I have been searching the web intesively; even if this is the first formal bug report, it seems like I am far from the first one to find this problem. On ubuntuforums, many users have similar experiences. My belief is that many users consider this kind of old "junk" more toys than actual tools and they do not really care if it can be used for anything. Hence they do not report formally. I had similar problems to the submitter's ones when installing xubuntu- desktop on a kubuntu. In my case, desktops did start but icons for some Xfce applications were missing and some Xfce system application couldn't be launched: Xfce setting manager just blink for an instant in the screen and vanishes. when I remove kubuntu-desktop everything worked perfectly; then I install kubuntu-desktop back and I experienced the same problems; just when I remove ~/.gtkrc-2.0 the Xfce session worked fine from my ignorance, I wonder if this issue is related to the fact that when a Xfce session is started I can see KDE process running; I guess that in a previous Debian Sid install I had (again with both Xfce and KDE) when in a Xfce session no KDE process was there...(but not fuly sure) -- Installing over fresh kubuntu install breaks everything https://launchpad.net/bugs/50277 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 50631] Re: Foomatic missing LaserJet 4L / suggestions
Reuben, I just noticed you are right. In CUPS webinterface there is a manufacturer indication "HP" and "Hewlett-Packard" on Ubuntu 6.06 LTS. It were indications "HP" and "HP (HPLIP)" that were merged around april in Dapper after many bug reports. To me it is more than clear now that different manufacturer indications cause lots of user confusion and problems. According to the PPD Specification (http://partners.adobe.com/public/developer/en/ps/5003.PPD_Spec_v4.3.pdf) a manufacturer must use the same *Manufacturer name string in each of their PPD files. Also, the string must be unique among manufacturers; two or more manufacturers may not use the same string. This Specification also provides a list of the current known manufacturer strings which says that for Hewlett Packard printers the *Manufacturer: "HP" must be used! The "Hewlett-Packard" manufacturer indication comes from PPDs installed by package foo2zjs. Also a "MINOLTA-QMS" manufacturer indication is used in PPDs from package foo2zjs while package foomatic-filters-ppds uses "Minolta" in its PPDs. Also a "Dymo" manufacturer indication is used in Dymo.ppd included with cypsys package while "Dymo-CoStar" is used in PPDs from package foomatic-filters-ppds. I think this can easily be verified in e.g. CUPS webinterface, developers should do this before releasing a new version of Ubuntu and make the necessary changes in the Debian packages containing prebuilt PPDs. I'm reopening this bug and reassigning to foo2zjs. Ubuntu has big usability problem with lots of network cards, which are not supported by open source drivers, but works fine with ndiswrapper and closed-source Windows drivers from CD, included with network card. [Bug 45909] Re: ndisgtk doesn't install driver
There should be more user-friendly way to find this closed source network drivers installation/configuration tool, maybe name of menu launcher should be "Network drivers from Windows" not "Windows wireless drivers", because first word in launcher's name should reflect tool's main purpose, also ndiswrapper in not only for wireless drivers, look http://ndiswrapper.sf.net : "Although ndiswrapper is intended for wireless network cards, other devices are known to work: e.g., USB to serial port device, *ethernet card*, home phone *network device*, etc." Best decision would be to integrate ndisgtk into official network config tool - network-admin (from gnome-system-tools package), I think. Btw, working ndisgtk tool ASAP should be included in Baltix GNU/Linux distro as default, I think ** Changed in: Baltix Importance: Untriaged => Medium Assignee: (unassigned) => Mantas Kriaučiūnas Status: Unconfirmed => Confirmed Target: None => breezy -- ndisgtk doesn't install driver https://launchpad.net/bugs/45909 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 26413] Re: HPLIP Toolbox doesnt work out of the box
Be more descriptive next time... I tought the HP NC 4200 was a printer but it appears to be a laptop. HPLIP toolbox is meant for printer maintenance like aligning and cleaning ink cartridges and status information like ink level. It is mainly meant for HP inkjet printers, but doesn't work for all HP printers or non-HP printers. Please look at /usr/share/doc/hplip/hplip_readme.html#Device to find out if HPLIP Toolbox works for your HP printer. Since it doesn't work for every printer HPLIP Toolbox is hidden in the System menu by default in Dapper and Edgy, you should only unhide it if it works with your HP printer model. I don't see any problems with that. I'm closing this bug as rejected, if you see any problems please reopen the bug. ** Changed in: hplip (Ubuntu) Status: Fix Released => Rejected -- HPLIP Toolbox doesnt work out of the box https://launchpad.net/bugs/26413 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
